Don't eat anything the night before that might upset your stomach. Definitely eat something the morning of--you're gonna need that fuel!!! And, being slow is relative! You'll be much faster than everyone who didn't start!!
-
Great job!! I like reverse tri's because I usually run faster and it doesn't seem to make my bike or swim slower.

I think that jumping in and doing that longer swim will help boost your confidence around the swim. I think you'll be suprised at how well you do on the swim in the race setting. :) Where are you in MN? I grew up in MN and only moved out of the state a few years ago. I recall that there a quite a few races in the summer in…

I say if you're going to wear a wetsuit--get the sleeves. You get a lot of water inside the suit with the sleeveless--so it doesn't do as great of a job keeping you warm. Also, it will still impact your body position and some aspects of mobility--even if it's sleeveless. If it's not too cold, I say go without the wetsuit!…

Do any of your local shops rent wetsuits? I'd recommend doing that until you know what you want. Xterra usually has some good sales through active.com and other sites if decide to buy one. If haven't raced in one before, renting is a nice way to see what you like.

I agree with this advice. I would HIGHLY recommend getting at least one OLY in before your 1/2 Iron. It's a big jump to go from a sprint into the longer distances.
-
Congrats on getting in!! It fills so quickly! It's a great course. The water is calm and the rest of the course is relatively flat. If you have a chance (and live in the area), I'd recommend trying one of the Red Rock Co races--they cover a lot of the same ground as IMAZ so it's a nice preview for the IMAZ course.
-
Feel freed to add me as well. I complete IMAZ in November and am back to doing shorter tris again now that training for IM is done. If you are looking for a good training book--I recommend Be Iron Fit.
-
Love your spirit!! Great job!

I am trying the Espirit de she in May! Tri for the cure is March 24--both of those are all women's tris. Red Rock Co puts on good races and since they run Soma, it would be good to try one of their other races to prep. Tri family racing puts on a good beginner's race. I also like the Tempe international tri.

Awesome!

I'm with you! I just finished an Ironman and have been doing a strong of 1/2 marathons, marathons, and triathlons. I want to focus on weight loss rather than building endurance.

I am officially an Ironman!! I completed Ironman AZ on Sunday!

There have been lots of good suggestions here, but I disagree with comments about not eating anything prior to a race of any distance. You need to fuel your body--especially when you start increasing to anything beyond a 1/2 marathon. You'll have a lot more than tummy trouble if you don't have the right fuel in your system…

Have you looked at the HITS calendar? If there's a race in your area, their fees are usually much less than Ironman fees. http://hitstriathlonseries.com/

^^ That race sounds amazing!! My race adventure is likely to be next month--Ironman AZ. It's my first Ironman and I am so nervous/excited!!

This blogger does incredible in depth reviews on Garmins and other sports watch/gps items. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/10/garmin-forerunner-910xt-in-depth-review.html

I agree--the Garmin is absolutely worth it. I just got the 910xt this year and I love it. Prior to that, I had a 305, which was also great. I am training for Ironman and the 910XT is my best friend. I can wear it on open water swims to track distance or in the lap pool to count strokes. Go for it!

Finished a 70.3 today--4 weeks to Ironman AZ!!

You should be able to do it. Just listen to your body and don't push through any major pain (there'll be pain no matter what with that much running!!), but pay attention to anything that seems different in terms of pain. Your plan sounds a lot like what the Ragnar Relay is. You should check it out if you haven't heard of…

Hi--I have been running since high school, but there was a long stretch from about age 22-age 29 when I really didn't do much. As a result, I gained about 50 pounds and have been working steadily to get it back off. I started training for long distance events (half marathons, marathons, triathlons) about 5 years ago. I…

Missed getting a sub-30 5k this morning by 1.77 seconds! I will get there soon though.

I agree with the above advice that you should see a doctor. I have had both shin splints and a stress fracture. I did have constant pain with both. With my stress fracture, I had sharp pain in a localized area (where the fracture was). It REALLY hurt to push on that area (like to the point if someone even brushed against…
