I just ran my first 5k on Saturday (Walk for Hope through the Phoenix Zoo) in 36:02. My goal was 35 minutes but considering how many hills I encountered, I'm lucky I finished at all! It was so much fun and I hope to improve my time for the next one in 2 weeks.
I think I'm addicted!!!0 -
Not so much for myself, but I ran a 5K with my 8 year old daughter last weekend. 26:26. That little girl continues to impress me.0

Its still a very good pace I would imagine.0

My first 5k I weighed 297lbs and finished it in 41.27!
Amazing0 -
Congratulations. What a great achievement. I have recently started C25K and and feeling like I might not make it through week 3!0

I did the Warrior Dash in May and that was completed in 50:51. This event included a 5k run and 12 obstacles. I just did the Casey Cares Foundation 5k run this past Sunday in the rain, up hill run in 36 minutes.0

Um that is freaking awesome! You may be raising a future Olympian!0 -
My last 5k run was 36 minutes. I'm hoping to knock a minute off that by the end of the month!0

I ran my first 5k in 42:00. Now I'm doing a C25K program and I have a 5k in November. If I could do it in 36 minutes, I would be happy!0
-
My first 5K (Sept 2009) was just under 40 min, a couple of weeks ago I ran the same race in 26:070

Missed getting a sub-30 5k this morning by 1.77 seconds! I will get there soon though.0

I'm running in my first 5K this Sunday....so excited (and nervous as well)
Good luck!!0 -
My 5k PR is 26:20...But, since I have been training for triathlon, my 5K time has gotten worse. The good news is, I can run a lot more miles now. i am training for my first full marathon this coming Feb.0

Don't worry, you will. It's an amazing program. I started 2 months ago 3-4 times a week and I'm running my first 5k next sunday.0 -
My first 5K was sunday and I finished in 31:19 - 64th overall and 7th for women in my age bracket. I am very pleased. My next race I am aiming for under 28 minutes. For spring I have some longer races - a 6K and an 8K.0

My first 5k was actually 3.4 miles (trail run) and I came in at 37 minutes. I have another 5k on the 21st and I am hoping to get in at under 32 minutes .0

The only 'race' I have done was a 10K (it was my goal when I stopped smoking!) - 1 hour 7 mins, I felt diappointed but after 4 weeks off running I can't imagine getting there again. Did just over 7K this afternoon in about 47 mins, but that was a mixture of running and walking. Seeing this thread has made me think about actually timing a 5K and then having a 'measurement' and goal to head towards. Seeing your times has also made me realise that I'm not as unfit as I had talked myself into!!
Congrats to all0 -
Congrats!! That is an awesome first race time! My first 5K was like 38 minutes I think. I just got a PR in a 5K about a month ago at 30:29. Now I'm looking to get below 30...gotta love that racing bug!0
-
Congrats...that is great news! You go0

I recently ran a 5k - my first one in 16 years ( ! ! ), and my time was 35:43. I'm hoping to get that down a bit, will be shooting for 30 minutes or less... I guess that's not too bad for a 52 year old ! ! LOL ! ! Thank God for C25K and losing a bit of weight on MFP ! !0

My best 5k time is about 33 minutes. When I started running last January, it was taking me about 42 mintues. Improving...under 30 minutes seems really difficult for me. I am not a super fast runner but I can now run a 5k without stopping, and 9 months ago I could not run one quarter mile!
for the original poster, I think that is phenomenal first time for an over-40 runner! (I too am over 40) :-)0 -
Nothing personal but I hate runners.
Actually, that's not true, I'm jealous, I was an avid runner before I tore my meniscus.
Best 5K was at age 35, 16:14
Now I ride but miss running, such a great escape from everything.0 -

Thank you so much!!!0 -
My 5k PR is 27:21, but that's not in a race, in a race it's 28:01.
The last 10k I ran I did in 56:52, and somehow managed to get 2nd place in my age group (27-39) and got an actual running trophy...who would have thought??0 -
thats awesome, you will wanna do more and beat your time0

I've done a couple of 5km fun runs, best time was around 25 minutes. I did a 10.5km fun run on the weekend, which included one particularly difficult hill, in 64 minutes. I was really pleased with that, considering I slowed down whenever it got a bit too much, so I didn't burn out. But then I found out one of the other kindergarten (preschool) mums that was there did it in 49 minutes - what a star! Unfortunately it made me feel a little less proud of my own achievement though.
Still, I've gotten over it, it's about getting out there and doing it.0 -
Here are my 5K times since Jan of this year:
Neverland 5K (1/12): 47 min
Coaster Run 5K (3/12): 42 min
Pajama Run 5K (6/30): 40:38 min
4th of July 5K: 40:05 min
Awesome 80's 5K (9/1): 41:46 min
Chapman 5K (10/6): 39:38 min
I have had a goal of finishing in under 40 minutes ALL YEAR and I finally did it this past Saturday with my Chapman 5K race. Not only did I get it in under 40, but I had time to spare! I wanted to cry when I realized I finally achieved what I've worked so hard for. Being a bigger runner, I love proving to myself that it is possible to do these races and to do them well!0
