• Ran my first marathon last October. Just signed up for another this year. I started running in Nov 2011 and had only run a 5k before my marathon. You are way ahead of me in terms of running experience. Advice: 1.) Do NOT worry about walking. LOTS of people walk. I found walking through the water stations helped a lot. It…
• My general rule is always distance first, then speed. I don't care about my pace, just how much ground I can cover.
• If you've never run, I'd say start with couch to 5k. It IS possible. I started running in December of 2011 (couldn't run a 1/4 mile) and completed my first marathon sub 5-hour in October of 2012. You can do it. It's ridiculously challenging. You're going to want to quit, you're going to experience fatigue you'd never…
• 5K is about 24 minutes. Improved from 29 minutes last year. He does eventually catch up in a few weeks. I just enjoy running longer. Thanks!
• Ran 8 miles this morning. Best pace yet. Very hard to run and fight back tears at the same time. EVERYONE should get out and do SOMETHING today. Walk/Run/Bike/Crawl...doesn't matter what...just get outside/in the gym in support of Boston.
• Holy crap!!! You are one hot momma! Great job!
• Thanks :) Yesterday I tried a 4 miler, only made it 2 miles at a slower pace with lots of stops. I then rode the bike and had zero pain. I guess I should skip it, but I'm so nervous I'll get too far behind in training. This week is technically "step back" week, but 13 miles still feels like a long distance.
• I eat 1/2 cup oatmeal w/ a dash of cinnamon, a packet of Splenda, and half of a banana chopped and mixed in. It's delicious!!!
• Thanks everyone! My 10k is on a boardwalk, so it's flat. I'm hoping to get out this weekend and try running the boardwalk. Hoping to break the treadmill habit, but with 2 kids and a husband who works long hours, I struggle to find the time to get outside. I don't have a double jogging stroller so I can't take the kiddos…
• Lol, it's actually 34lbs TO GO but I have lost 22lbs since thanksgiving :-) thank you!
• Thanks everyone! I love running! 2.5 months ago I couldn't run a minute without being out of breath, now I'm running 45min-60 min everyday and loving it. I don't mind doing the videos, but I love just throwing on my sneakers and either hopping on my treadmill or going out and clearing my mind during my run. It relaxes me…
• lol, that's so true! Never thought of it that way. I think there are just so many videos on the market and every other post on this forum is about Jillian, so I got it stuck in my head that she is it when it comes to fitness.
•
I just printing the Couch 2 5K today! I am excited! It really worked for you?? I am a little nervous because I have never run!
I know this wasn't directed at me, but I just wanted to add my success with c25k. I started it in the middle of November. I could barely run a quarter mile without being out of…
• Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 4.5-5.0 mile run. Upper body strength training with my free weights at home and abs. Sometimes I do a video like 6 week 6 pack instead of my usual ab workout, depends on how tired I am. Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday or Sunday- Easy 3-3.5 mile run, lower body strength training (just squats, deadlifts…
• I was contemplating switching to heavy lifting but wasn't 100%.... Now I'm 100% lol. :-)
• Girl, you look FABULOUS! Def. a huge inspiration for the rest of us. Do you lift heavy?
• Thank you! I like your schedule, keeps it from getting boring. I'll give it a try! I'm still a new runner (complete c25k at the beginning of January and can now run about 4.2 miles.
• Thank you! I agree with you on the strength training, I don't use machines for strength training, just free weights at home, not sure if that makes a difference. I'll split it up though, I think it might help my energy level.
• Unsalted almonds and blueberries
• Thanks all! I'll be adding in strength training this week. I don't have a gym membership so I'll just be doing free weights at home. I also do plyometrics which seems to help with my leg strength.
• Not adding any of those..should I be?
• Interesting. I didn't realize they had powders with that many calories. My scoop is 130 per scoop (EAS protein). I'm just glad I have MFP to get several peoples opinions rather than just one person who obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.
• Well my husbands friend is in incredible shape, but I was very skeptical because it goes against everything I've read. He said that if I'm trying to lose weight (which I am), then I shouldn't consume that amount of protein. When my husband told me that I immediately doubted, but wanted to ask all my MFP experts before I…
• Thanks!!! I'm going to just listen to it. I rarely eat all my exercise calories anyway so I'm not too worried, just wanted to make sure it was accurate.
• Anyone? Any insight would be great.
• I drink a protein shake after every workout, eat peanut butter daily (haven't yet today) and usually have almonds and stuff everyday. I feel like I eat a lot, but it's mostly low calorie foods (like salad, shrimp, chicken etc.)
• I love my Nike dri-fit capris. I would wear them 24/7 if I could. They are pricey ($55) but they are well worth the price. I bought my first pair at original price and went back for more the next day because I loved them so much. To my surprise they had the live strong Nike dri fits on clearance so I snagged a pair for $30!
• I agree with everyone that mentioned shoes. They make all the difference! I was running with ill fitting adidas and had terrible shin splints. For Christmas I got asics gel kayanos and now I actually look forward to running. I also started with the couch to 5K program. I'm on week 7 and LOVING it. I also tried to follow…
• I listen to a lot of pop while working out. Just fun, upbeat music get's me running (and dancing lol). Currently I like Domino by Jessie J I like it like that by Hot Chelle Rae
