  • There is nothing natural about humans being vegetarian. We clearly have evolved to eat meat, so saying eating lab grown meat is unnatural, so is being a vegetarian. Now I am fine if you want to be a vegetation, I have nothing at all against that. Perhaps you could extend the same courtesy to me. I am a geneticist and while…
  • I LOVE oopsie bread. Its not really bread like. But soo good.
  • Have you watched the documentary Fat Head? If you haven't the whole thing is on youtube. I plan do the new idea that heart disease is caused by high blood sugar for a 4th year biochem term paper. It is very interesting.
  • Splenda lies, it DOES have calories, so if you are using a lot it will add up. I like liquid sucralose, like ez sweetz, it has actual no calories. Also the funny aftertaste of splenda seems to be the filler, not the sweetner. I can't stand splenda anymore.
  • I agree.. aim for 5% and then see how it goes. I stay in keto easily so I let myself have more.
  • I aim for under 30, though some days that doesn't' happen.
  • For those wanting to know what people are eating. Friend some of your fellow ketoers and stalk their food diaries.
  • Ohh cute puppy!!! (now that that is out of the way lol) You can check my diary if you friend me. Mine is pretty decent before the holidays. Some people can seem to not calorie count. But make sure there are loads of veggies in with that meat and cheese! I try to keep my ratios good first, calories second. I have found my…
  • I am also doing keto. Which is a form of high fat low carb. I find it easier than atkins, but each to their own. Watch all of what you eat. Some artificial sweeteners (like Splenda) lie. They are full of carbs. I have to work to get my fat in most days. So before you cut the fat (keeping fat in your diet has been shown to…
  • Awesome!! Just so you know the JRT breed standard calls for JRTs to have long legs too ;) The short legged dogs are registered as russell terriers these days with the UKC. (Unless you are in Australia, for some reason their JRTs have a bit shorter legs.. but nothing like the short legs of the shorties or puddin JRTs)…
  • We have 3 JRTs, 2 long haired whippets and a rescue BC I breed and we work with rescue. Our dogs compete in all sorts of dogs sports like obedience, agility, earth dog, racing and more. A few do film/commercial work too. We also have 3 horses. Edited.. all my pics are too big.. they take up too much space on this forum. So…
  • Will you share the recipe for the fudge?
  • I would think raw is what is listed. So while I can't help you figure out how much less calories and fat is in your crispy bacon, it will be less than what is on the package.
  • Right it was you with the fluff. I am forever in your debt. It is sooo tasty! I think I am going to make the truffles for my mom for Xmas. She is doing low carb (but not keto). I don't like chocolate (please don't hurt me lol) so it should be easy to make a bunch and not be tempted. I just can't like the mashed…
  • Wow hey activity!! Great to see you all. And it will be nice to have a keto friendly forum as the main forums seem very anti low carb anything.
  • I will get back to this.. but I have to get back to doing some real science for my thesis today or my supervisor will be most displeased with me tomorrow. But I do want to just mention this " What "other side"? His cherry picking and misrepresenting his sources is enough to invalidate is conclusions. Period. " If this is…
  • I eat dairy too (OMG cheese! lol) But that was a question I had long wondered so went looking for the answer. The Native cultures around here never had dairy before we came a long.. so what did they do? (oh and what are BB.com miscers? I am new here)
  • I know you can get some calcium from plants. But when asking where did primitive people who did not have dairy animals get their calcium I was told that soups and stews made by boiling bones (particularly if the broth was a bit acidic) as well as eating small bones of birds and fish.
  • Please re read my post. I said I didn't get to it. If you have such issues reading what I say perhaps that is part of the problem? Also please re read my posts and see that I clearly posted numerous times that I do not believe all that he has written particularly what you are trying to disprove. Its hard to argue science…
  • lol and a bit more as to the " I only took exception to the post "all diets work the same way, calorie restriction" " We are talking a paleo diet here. Why it works is not just a question of weight, but a question of health. Personally I want to eat more primitively but I will go to a time when we were making cheese as I…
  • I didn't get to the last one as I was mightily disappointed. Do you have any primary research that disproves him? I am not talking opinion pieces. And as I said I don't believe everything he said, but at least he went though and cited real research. I disregarded all the analogies and all the anecdotal evidence (the only…
  • Ah I see what you are saying. Well at one point someone suggested I try eating more (as they felt I was eating too little) that was a bad experiment let me tell you. I do not think that its just sugars and simple starches that are the problem for everyone. You will notice I did say I didn't agree with all of it. However if…
  • Sigh I have no idea where you get that number. And I didn't think my post was that confusing but I was running on 1500 cal a day. MFP give my basal rate as 1,829cals a day so 1500 was not a huge deficit and should have been ok for running. MFP has me eating 1300 and some cals a day. This is even MORE of a deficit. Taub, I…
  • 1500cals is NOT a big deficit. No I am not saying I am eating surplus. Though one should be able to eat a little more or less and not gain weight. If it was all stricty calories in vs out if you averaged only ONE extra bite of food a day (at say 20 cals) than you needed you would gain 10 pounds in a decade. I can tell you…
  • I beg to differ. I am eating the same amount or a bit more now and losing weight. I used to believe as you did. I ended up going down below 800 cals a day to make the scale move. It was my Dr who suggested low carb. As a soon to be biochemist (one more semester lol) I was fascinated why this seemed to go against all I…
  • C 5% P 30% F 65%
  • yes I am. I find rich meaty foods far too tasty lol. I will eat more than I need at times. Also I am trying to keep my keto ratios good, which is easier to do if you set a goal for calories as MFP then tells you how much of everything you need to meet the ratios.
  • Low carb was trendy LOooooNG before low fat. Low carb has been around for loosing weight since the 1700s (some prince or other lost a lot of weight eating just meats and green veggies) It was purported back at the turn of the century. It wasn't until the mid 1950s that fat became 'bad' and the whole idea that one should…
  • This is why I joined MFP :) I could change my values to 'keto' ratios and its so much easier to track here than on paper.
  • I feel fuller, I am never hungry or feel deprived. I have tried simply cutting calories (and lost 60 pounds) but I had to cut a LOT just to make the scale move or inches disapear. I was miserable and could not live like that. They came back. Low carb for me isn't hard. I loved breads! But I don't crave them now. Why is…
