I purchasd a Polar FT80 years ago and love it. It was expensive at the time but just what the Dr. ordered.

I watched it this week. It has changed my views about eating and how to raise my children. Looking back on family health issues, this points out a lot to me. I've known people to go into cancer remission without knowing why and seen heart risk people turn their lives around. I've also seen what happens when you don't. I'm…

Have you tried doing Strength and Cardio on the same days? Research I've done suggests you get better benefits doing both. I'm not suggesting I follow all my research, just that is something you might want to try. I don't believe in separating muscle groups so one day squats, next day deadlifts or some other exercise.…

I think it depends on your personality as well. I choose a gym because there is so much more energy there to keep you motivated and going. Even on days I dread working out as soon as I step into the gym my mind is there. Working at home there are too many distractions and I hit the couch or make some excuse. Now that I…

As someone with blood sugar issues, I've pondered this greatly in the past. I believe that there are many other benefits to eating the fruit aside from fiber that make it a requirement to be part of a balanced diet.

I watched a movie this week that changed my mind about diary. I'm not a vegan, I don't get nearly enough plant protein nor enough fruits and vegetables because I like others believed all the BS that said we need to eat dairy in the first place. Don't think of these ads as trying to reverse peoples thinking, I see it as…

Why not eat the fruit?

Agreed, feel free to add me. I found that not only positive comments like "way to go" work but as people get to know you better they understand more of the little details. I had a friend who hated running so whenever they posted information about running you try to boost the positive vibes in that area. If you know they…

I agree with rockerbabyy. Before I add it I check to see if it makes sense. Most of the time I scan the bar codes of food with my smartphone and enter the data that way. When I search for a food and see how many other people have agreed with it , it boosts my confidence. I'll even check what they entered versus the numbers…

My inspiration goes when I'm on a treadmill and someone next to me who is much larger gets on and runs 7.0 MPH for an hour straight, while I struggle to stay at 3.0 MPH walking. :grumble:

I would call it AWARENESS not obession. Obession is for perfume, It is like any new hobby or activity that you become engaged in. You eduate yourself, this is the same thing only some do it like there life depends on it .... because well ... for some of us it is true.

200 songs and I last updated my music 9 years ago. Sad I know, I just hate wasting money buying music. Hmm might be time to get a pair of those old style radio headphones and listen to the radio. That would look sweet on a treadmill.

Or a tea bag! I hate water so drinking tea is much more enjoyable.

Haha I agree! Slivers of ice instead of cubes. You could also freeze fresh fruit in your ice cubes.

Sugar, sodium, bad carbs, bad fat, animal protein, glucose ... they all suck. The hardest part of life is the simple act of balance! It doesn't help when those around you don't support you and make it difficult.

I had the same quesiton about the MFP activity level. Yes I worked a desk job and sit most of the day. So I should pick inactive. But I do 7 days of intense training so which should it be. I think the basis of the question is to determine how many calories you burn based on your non-exercise activity.
-
It might be the initial water weight too. When inactive people start becoming really active they tend to lose water weight first. When I first started my first few weeks I was losing 5-7 lbs a week for the first few weeks. Then down to 1-2 lbs a week after that. The thing about rapid weight loss is those that stop eating…

I agree, it is the quality just as much as the quantity.

I believe like moderation and many of the other suggestions you will see posted on MFP that it depends. If you don't normally drink it and start, you might see beneifts. If you have been drinking it for years and increase your intake, you might not see a difference. I will say that during the periods of my life where I…

What have you been doing differently since Christmas to lose weight? I read a study once that stated the extra holiday food we eat between Thanksgiving and New Years takes us an average of 9 months to burn off following our normal routine. That by reducing and watching what you eat those two months could put you ahead for…

My Dr started me on the 50,000 UI's a week for 8 weeks. Then I went to 100,000 UI's a week for 8 weeks. Next I went to 10,000 UI a day to see if smaller more frequent would make a difference. Now I'm on 5,000 UI's every morning. I finally went from a reading of 0 to a ready of 18 after about 36 weeks of taking vitamin D.…

The questions I've been trying to research are a) pre-workout food, how long it takes to digest the food to be available for your workout b) my workout routine is 1 hour of strength followed immediately by 1 hour of cardio. So for post workout do I drink my shake after my strength or after my cardio or both in order to get…
-
I'm also trying to figure out the best pre and post workout sources of calories. Real food protein is always a better source than whey mixes. However it takes your body longer to get food protein broken down and available to your body. For post workout the recommendation is to get the protein into your body within 30-60…

Yeah, my girlfriend makes my coffee. She was trying to give me a healthy alternative to Starbucks, which this is. The 240 comes from 4 cups of coffee (well two of my mugs which = 4 actual cups). Each with 1 tablespoon of Nestle CoffeeMate Peppermint Mocha Creamer which is 60 calories per tablespoon. Then again, what people…

Thank you both for providing this information this was helpful to me and describes some of the issues I've had over the last year with my meds and helps me research different alternatives. Biguanides (metformin) alone did not help me at all. .When I added Sulfonylureas such as glyburide it made a large difference. For…

I just joined this group today. I've struggled the past several years with control my bs. At one point I lost 85 lbs but my diabetes got much worse. I've unsuccessfully tried different oral medications over the years and am on one now that seems to be working well. I've been trying to research all the other effects of…

Then again, those that have worked for him in the past in other government jobs said he was just as corrupt and lazy back then. I don't see the 14 years as punishment for just his current transgressions but a lifetime of them. Additionally at a time when Illinois needed a hero to step up and lead us from past corruption he…

My decision to be healthy and her decision to not be healthy aided in our divorce. Fast forward a few years, with my girlfriend now we both are trying to be healthy but for different reasons. It is hard even for couples that both want to get healthy because you have different goals, different body styles, different energy…

I recently moved to Lombard and go to Lifetime in Warrenville,
-
Warrenville is no better. My sales guy has never acknowledged me after signing me up and parking absolutely sucks! Sometimes you drive around 20-30 minutes looking for a spot. I'm hoping that becomes better once all those who joined to meet their new years resolution stop coming. *smile* The equipment is good, the trainers…
