  • At a quick glance, low-carb, with some timing requirements related to pre- and post-workout foods. Similar to Schwarzbein.
  • This is great. A great range of options that I didn't even consider. Thank you!:

  • Acid turns into base inside the body? Nonsense.
  • From a high school boyfriend: "For a fat girl, you don't sweat much."
  • Sweetie, I'm so sorry. Crap like that hurts like hell, and it scars us, to boot. I'm very certain that you'll go back there within the year and strut your stuff right on up to the ride. Knock 'em dead!
  • Good for you for your success! I agree with the comments about fat. There's a reason why fats & oils are one of the four basic food groups - you gotta get them in there. One other suggestion - if you're eating a lot of things from the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers), they can cause arthritis…
  • The nutritionist I was sent to after a Type II diabetes diagnosis informed me that in order to keep my blood sugars under control and to lose weight, I should attempt to consume no more than 150 g of carbs/day. My caloric intake goal is 1600/day. Now subtract 600 cal (my carbs, 4 cal/g) from 1600; that leaves me 1000. If I…
  • Counting calories IS NOT WASTED TIME. I was STUNNED when I found out how many calories I had been eating - and how much I underestimated serving size. And I, too, am well educated when it comes to nutrition. For years I had been told that the most successful way of losing was to write down EVERYTHING I ate. I, too,…
  • Spoken like a 29-year-old. You're still young enough to get away with eating pretty much anything you want to, and yeah, if you stay under your calorie goal, you'll lose weight. However... I now have type II diabetes because of what I ate. Even when I wasn't gaining weight, I was making myself sicker and sicker by eating…
  • Not at all crazy. Most of the "protein bars" I've seen have a boatload of sugar, and not all that much protein. You may find that you don't even need 1/2 pound, since protein usually fills you up better than carbs can. I say go for it.
  • Ain't it the truth? Clothing (or an accessory) that fits tells no lies. Congratulations!
  • Oh honey, only a man could think this was a good idea... :)
  • One last thing: Instead of plain water, try drinking a fancy "designer" water with a wedge of lime. Or just plain club soda if that's what you have. The carbonation tends to fill up your stomach, and somehow that fancy water seems more substantial.
  • Go right ahead and eat meat!!! You CANNOT build muscle without protein. If you're working out, you should probably be getting at least 100g of complete protein a day. Unless you're a really dedicated vegetarian, it's hard to get enough complete protein in your diet - it can be done, of course, but it ain't easy. If you're…
  • Heartfelt congratulations, F&F!!! Even at your heaviest, you had a WAIST - which I've never had! Believe it or not, I'm even jealous of your 212-lb. self. And now? You look amazing. I can't believe you had the least bit of nerves walking to the pool - girl, you should have been STRUTTING.
  • Do you have access to an elliptical machine?
  • NOT failure, very temporary setback. I totally agree with the post about eating protein. Eat a couple of hard-boiled eggs and see how much you feel like eating anything else after that... Simple carbs are insidious that way. Once you indulge, you want more, more, more. Drink water, eat protein and lots of bulky green…
  • Just the other day I read a post on here about how people want to be a certain dress size (I HAVE to be a size 6, 4, 2, 0...). That, too, has nothing to do with being fit; those are utterly artificial parameters and don't have anything to do with being healthy. This lady has a stated goal of being fit, without regard to…
  • Congratulations. Shallow, superficial, and judgemental + fit = fantastic human being.
  • The bagel with low-fat cream cheese is, however, far more likely to make you diabetic over the long haul.
  • Lordy! all you folks that are putting this poor woman down because she bought a dress 2 sizes too small - do you not recognize that "BOUGHT" is PAST TENSE??? She already owns the dress, so back off! Jeez! I have faith in you! You have terrific motivation (the wedding, even more than the dress!) and you're reaching out for…
  • Ummm... maybe not quite so healthy, but I LOVE my no-sugar-added Fudgsicle bars. 40 cal. each, and they actually have some fiber and a little protein. I'm Type II so the sugars in fruit add up to too much REALLY fast...
  • Cutting back on carbs DOES help, but it can be tough to maintain. I'm type II diabetic so I have to keep my carb intake down. Ideally I should be eating no more than 120 g of net carbs/day, preferably 30g-15g-30g-15g-30g, three meals and two snacks/day. "Net carbs" means that you can subtract fiber grams from your total…
  • Stairclimber, the one like a little bitty escalator. Blew out my knee when I overdid it, and didn't even know it until the next day.
  • Actually, most of these have already been covered. Just adding my perspective. Some of this I learned during an earlier weight loss success (that didn't take), some of it is from my current weight loss. - positive attention from people who didn't care before. Made me mad and resentful at one time. Now it just makes me…
  • Full discosure: I AM a Type II diabetic, so my viewpoint is different. But the things they teach you in your nutrition classes for diabetes are these: Fruit juice is sugar water. You've removed the fiber from the fruit - the most valuable part - and left the sugar. It's not a lot different from Kool-Aid at that point.…
  • There are a lot of Indian foods in the database. Spelling is variable, might want to take notes from the menu. Tandoori-baked dishes are "safest"; they're marinated in a yogurt marinade and baked; they don't have a lot of added fat or sauces. Watch out for things like the naan bread - delicious, but soooo easy to eat too…
  • So how does it affect your personality when you go bald?
