  • That's the mistake I made this go-round as well. In the past I'd gained weight from not paying attention to what I was eating, or from not adjusting for my activity level after surgery, and then I lost weight like crazy eating 1800 calories a day. But for whatever reason (age, fibro, who knows?) that's now enough for me to…
  • I made mashed potatoes tonight, and I boiled bunch of fresh garlic cloves (7 or 8) right along with the potatoes, and mashed them in. Added tons of flavor and hardly any calories, though I did add some skim milk as well.
  • That was my understanding as well, that a little bit of fat helps your body use the fat-soluble vitamins in the salad. But I can't imagine it takes much at all. Since I generally like a little bit of cheese on my salad, I'll often use a fat free viniagrette. Or I can add a little bit of avocado, or a hard-boiled egg…
  • While exercise is not sufficient for many people, it made a HUGE difference for me, and honestly, I resent the implication that because I recommended it I don't know the difference between "the blues" and depression. Suffice it to say that I'm most definitely clinical, and I'd rather not air all my dirty laundry to prove…
  • I'm also on Bupropion (generic Wellbutrin) now after gaining weight on Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, or Cymbalta. However, as PP mentioned, the Bupropion can exacerbate any anxiety problems, so it's not ideal for everyone. And it gives me insane carb cravings, which is weird, because it's supposed to have the opposite effect. I…
  • Spinach. I put it on or in darn near everything - eggs, sandwiches, salads, quiche, lasagna, and even soup. Though right now my swiss chard is growing like crazy, so I'm switching to that for a while :)
  • It's not a medication, but I recently got one of the little electric pulse massagers (like TENS), and so far, I'm liking it. Really helps with the pain in my lower back / SI joint.
  • Yes! I also love my mostly egg white omelettes, thuogh I make mine with a heaping pile of spinach, and just a little bit of goat cheese. Apples slices with cinnamon sprinkled on them, topped with honey flavored greek yogurt is another favorite of mine. And I should really make some more tofunaise, or tofu dip. I've found…
  • I've been insanely busy! Managing to log my foods every day, but haven't been chatting much lately.
  • Nope. But only part of that is aesthetic. Since I have a lot of chronic health problems, I often feel like I'm either trapped in or at war with my own body. Though as WakingUp mentioned, at least I can get up off the couch and walk across the room. Could be a lot worse.
  • That's what I do. I entered my pizza recipe in the tool here on MFP, and it's only about 150 calories a slice.

  • I think the phosphoric acid is bad for your teeth.
  • I used to love those, but I haven't done one in ages. Now that I'm old and flabby, it probably wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
  • Yes. Only eating fast food on rare occasions is not a new thing for me. Had no problem getting fat without it. Though I will admit that it's probably easier for a lot of people to get fat on fast food, since it takes almost no effort to procure. But I really like to cook. And bake. So cooking for myself doesn't slow me…
  • I only eat fast food about twice a year, but I still think it's delicious.
  • Non-scale victory. Good stuff other than the number on your scale, like your pants fitting better, your cholesterol improving, etc.

  • Nice! That must've felt really good! I was really bummed about hurting my knee, but I did get a small consolation victory when I went to the doctor. When the doctor grabbed my leg to examine my knee she exclaimed "Holy cow that's a lot of muscle!" Physical therapy starts tomorrow, so hopefully I can get back to…

  • I'd worked with a dietician for several months first, and then started working out with a personal trainer in November, but I joined MFP Jan 1st. Since I joined MFP I've lost 14lbs.
  • I had strawberries, kiwi slices, and greek yogurt.
  • I injured my knee a few weeks ago, so I haven't been exercising. It was so bad that it was painful to walk, painful to sit in a normal position with it bent, and painful to drive. So lots of NSAIDS and sitting around with my leg propped up. Physical therapy starts Thursday. Very frustrating, since I had been doing so well.…
  • That's the case for me. I really wanted some pointers about keeping good form, and my trainer was very helpful for that. Personally, I'm one of those people who tends to push myself too much too soon and then injure myself, so I definitely don't need anyone on the outside pushing me more. And I've never found a trainer…
  • Good job! My dog has been at a healthy weight as long as I've had her (4 years), but over the last year I've been walking her enough that she started losing and I had to increase her ration by 50% to maintain her weight.
  • This. Personally I don't carry a gun or a knife for self-defense because I'm aware that in my unskilled hands, the odds of me (or someone I care about) being killed or injured by my own weapon are much greater than the odds of me being in a situation where I could use it to save myself. Pepper spray might be a good idea,…
  • I have a few different kinds, but I think my (and my horse's) favorite is the Bigeloil. The gel is easier to handle than the liquid, since it doesn't drip as much, but both work well. Generally I can find it at my local Farm & Fleet, and I'd imagine a lot of other farm supply stores would have it, but you can also order it…
  • Yes, exactly like that!
  • Yep! That's what I do as well - tea and knitting. This winter I knitted two hats and I'm halfway through my seventh scarf. Clearly, I get a lot of cravings.
  • I actually borrow liniment from my horse for pains like that. :embarassed: There are people liniments and rubs too, I'm sure, but I always have huge vats of the horse stuff around the barn, so I rarely buy different stuff for myself.
  • My personal trainer has me do an exercise where I step up onto a step, and then very slowly lower one foot behind me until it touches the ground. It sounds easy, but usually when we step down, we just sort of plop down instead of controlling the motion, so it's a lot harder than you'd think. Though the step thingie at the…
  • I love to cook, so it's one of those jobs that's generally my responsibility to take care of. But it's because I enjoy it, I'm good at it, and I'm a stay-at-home mom, so I have the time. Not because I'm a woman. Not once have my female reproductive organs ever helped me cook a meal. I learned how to cook from my dad,…
  • I think some of it depends on your personality. Gadgets are fun and exciting for me, so I find my HRM both informative and motivational. And I'm a little anal-retentive, so RPE always irks me because it's not very precise, plus I'm a person who tends to under-rate my exertion (or pain, don't get me started on the pain…
