  • I am 5'11. I had lost 50. In the beginning it took about 15 pounds to drop a size. But when all was said and done , it was 5 sizes in 50. So pretty consistent with what others have been saying. I am up about 15 pounds and that is one size for me going the other way (
  • I am 5' 11 1/2" inches tall and would love to be lean and mean at 155. I had been as low as 164 and thought I had a little work still to do. Some said I was too thin.

  • If in doubt, I personally would use the more conservative number.
  • Gosh!! There are so many. Lets see - Jumping Jacks, Burpees, Planks, Pushups, Sit ups / crunches, lunges and squats, and don't forget just going out and walking. Start small and work your way up. Consistency is the key!
  • I am not sure what your current diet consists of. I do know however, that when I started this journey, I had eaten my calories and was still "starving". I had to take a really good look at the kinds of things that I was putting in my body. That taught me to start making better food choices. As I weened out the "not good…
  • That is funny. Very nice to see somebody with a sense of humor on here. So many posts are just so tragic in nature. You will do well.
  • Remember, it's not a DIET. It's a lifestyle change. As long as your keep thinking of it a "diet" and "cheating" you will never accomplish the long term goal of having a healthy lifestyle and long term weight loss. I wouldn't call it a "cheat". Nobody ever said that you can never have cake, or chocolate, or ice cream ever…
  • Whatever you do keep your net calories above 1200. I know that you keep hearing about eating back your exercise calories, and those new to this site don't quite get it. There are bunches of archived threads on this topic. If you feel like you don't want to eat all of your exercise calories, at least eat half of them. It…

  • Don't bother, there are no miracle drinks or magic potions!
  • Two thoughts- 1) if you you burned more than you ate, you need to wait a few days to see the scale budge. But if you worked so hard that your net calories were les than 1200 sduring those 2 days could put your body in starvation mode. 2) the stress of feeding 2000 people for a funeral has no doubt affected your cortisol…
  • You need to be eating a minimum of 1200 net calories per day. If you don't hit it once in a while it's not such a big deal. But you need to be pretty consistently getting 1200 min, net.
  • Shin splints in most cases are bad posture or the wrong shoes. I too am in the same boat as you. All of my runner friends, tell me to start training in intervals. For example - walk for 1 minute, then run for 30 seconds, etc.... And gradually increase the time that you are running while keeping the 1 minute rest, until you…
  • Go to www.dietfacts.com and do your research ahead of time. If you can't find what you want there, just to go your favorite restaurants website and look for their nutrition information. It will blow your mind. But at the same time, it will help you to make a good choice.
  • Be patient. I know that when you put the weight on you didn't gain it at a rate of more than one pound a week. There is no magic to this. It takes patience, dedication, self-belief, and time. You can control all but the time. And yes, you should be eating your exercise calories. And yes, it is a very emotional journey.…
  • I still wouldn't call it a "cheat". Nobody ever said that you can never have cake, or chocolate, or ice cream ever again. You are not learning anything by "cheating". Me, I love ice cream, and eat some almost everyday. It's all about the choices that you make. Plan for a "little" indulgence every day, if thats what you…

  • Well, I learned to walk away from the cookies and cake and other junk, because once I used up my calories for the day I knew that I had to be done. I would look at the cookie or cake or any number of other tempting food hanging around at work, and say to myself. If I eat that, then I won't be having dinner tonight. I…
  • I feel that my Polar is very accurate, I usually am wishing that is says I burned more. But based on my exertion and the time invested I think its pretty spot on. It usually comes in lower the the cardio machines that calculate automatically for you when you enter your age and weight. You might want to go into the setting…
  • A gallon might be a bit excessive if you are not exercising vigorously.
  • I just did the math. If you are eating 1600 cal per day and logging 8000 burned per week, if you are eating your exercise calories, then you should be increasing your daily intake to about 2500 cal per day. 1600 x 7 days = 11200 add back in the 8000 cal you burned 11200 + 8000 = 19200 how much you should be eating if you…
  • it's tough to get started when you haven't exercised regularly. It's nearly impossible to turn on any workout video and expect to get through, so it's kind of like a self-defeating prophecy. You want to get started, so you gather up the guts to push play, then feel miserable when you can't make it throught the first 10…
  • The first thing that comes to mind for me is nuts and cheese
  • I am 5' 11", currently 171 pounds and wear some 10, and some 12's. My goal weight is 165. People already tell me I am too thin, but I don't want to be on the cusp of two sizes.
  • That is an easy answer.......Why pay money to do something that you can do for FREE!! MFP has all the tools and support that you need to be successful, like thousands of us here. You can do this. Just be true to yourself. I'll admit, its tough in the beginning, but as soon as you start seeing results its like an adrenaline…
  • 1370 sounds about right to me. Add about 640 calories burned by exercise, then you will be up to 2010. The benefits of exercise is that you get to eat more. Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Calorie Counter
