Should I join Weight Watchers or stick with MFP

Just need some advice. I've been logging and tracking for a while with little to no success. Was thinking about joining weight watchers again as it's worked for me in the past. I only have 12lb to lose but it's become almost impossible and I'm on the verge of giving up. What do you guys think?

Never give up! Failure only comes when we quit. You can do this! Try everything until you reach your goal. I wish you the best.0

I agree, do both, the more support you have the better. You can add me if you'd like some more support.0

i say do both too, i'm sure i've seen a few posters who are doing weight watchers also. tracking here whilest on it might help you once you get to your weight and come off it.0

do not give up! :flowerforyou:
i do both, MFP for logging my cals and exercise
and WW for the motivation of having to weigh every week in front of another person! :blushing:0 -
I've done WW with some success before, and it's user-friendly & helpful. I liked the program and the people, but I just finally hit a point where I was gaining instead of losing (due to a change in medication), so I quit going.
I would do both, keeping in mind that MFP is going to be more accurate in calories.
On WW "points" system, things can be a 0 (zero) point value, but in calories it could be 45 cals. And, in my case anyway, 2 or 3 times of 45 calories adds up to needing to do more exercise, or cut back someplace else. Does that make sense? (I'm not sure I stated it clearly). Another way of putting it--that they would occasionally remind you--is that (in points) 0+0 does not always equal 0. A lb of raw carrots may, at a glance, be worth 0 points, but that doesn't mean you can eat 5 servings of them in one sitting and count them as zero, because the reality is is that they DO have calories, and those calories do add up. how's that? Was that better?
So MFP will log more accurate calories, so you also have a better idea if you need to either cutback in portions that day, or fit in some more activity.
Better go,I'm rambling off... : )
Good luck in whatever you choose.0 -
Thank you all. I'm gonna go join my local meeting tonight and see how it goes. I need to do something to lose this weight. I'm feeling so low about the whole thing:sad:
Thanks again0 -
You can do this! Don't give up. The last few pounds are the hardest to lose but they will come off! They do take some time though as your body will hold on to the last bit of fat!
Are you eating enough calories? Your body may be in starvation mode if you aren't reaching your calorie goals? Are you eating enough fruit and veggies? and drinking plentry of water and exercising? Maybe if you let us look at your diary we can make some suggestions on things that you could do differently?
A change of routine for your body usually shakes things up a bit and gets things moving again.
Good luck, you can do it!0 -
That is an easy answer.......Why pay money to do something that you can do for FREE!! MFP has all the tools and support that you need to be successful, like thousands of us here. You can do this. Just be true to yourself. I'll admit, its tough in the beginning, but as soon as you start seeing results its like an adrenaline rush. Remember>>>>trying is planning to fail. You CAN do this.0

I joined the online WW program.
There was no support other than generic emails and personally I didn't find it that useful in helping me and thought it was quite overpriced for what they offer. MFP has kept me more involved as there's more of a community feel which is a lot better to be honest. I prefer this one but no reason not to give WW a try.0 -
Well, you can always stick with this or come back--it's free (which makes it great) BUT...the other side is, I've found that with some things in my life, my willingness to shell out money for something is an indication of the level of committment I have for it, and once I have shelled out the money, I'm more motivated to work for the goal since I have already paid for it. So, it's your decision if you need the "Financial Motivation" to give you a little extra support on your journey or not. Good luck either way--you can always do both, like everyone else has said.0

I do both. My scale was stuck for the longest time and WW helped me start moving it again. It is also the ultimate in accountability for me as I KNOW I have to look the same person in the eye each week when I weigh in.
Good luck!0 -
No don't give up! I agree with some of the other comments. Do both if you feel they help. I probably would do weight watchers or something else if I could afford it.0

As previously stated, MFP is free, but on the other hand, some people do better when they commit by investing money, so I suggest a solution that allows you to do both:
1. Renew your commitment to MFP. Change up your workout routine, tweak your food choices, and keep logging diet and exercise.
2. Figure out what you would have spent on WW meetings, transportation and time there, etc.
3. Take the amount you calculated in step 2 and put it into a fund that you will tap into to purchase yourself a new outfit, or some other non-food reward when you reach your goal.
This gives you the complete motivational program--You get to stay with MFP!!!:drinker: :drinker: You get to spend money to get your mind on board, AND you already know how you are going to afford the reward that is waiting for you "at the end of the rainbow"
You can't lose---er...well actually you CAN, and I hope you do!!!:bigsmile:0
