  • Since I am doing stronglifts 5x5, I am a little biased.
  • I really dont understand this answer. So once you determine your max continue to do 30% vs 80% .... Do you get stronger doing 30% what if you start increasing the 80%... safer??? that is bull hockey... you can hurt yourself at any weight. Cant be strong enough to lift 300lbs if you never lift 300lbs ...
  • any time of day is a good time to jog... well outside of 10pm - about 3:30 am depending on the city. I can run in cold and I can run in rain... but put them together and it isn't happening.
  • agreed, I just really hate 2 machines... smith machine, treadmills. Good luck with your workout as well.
  • in my head machines are the devil to weight training and can reduce overall power by 65% I have read. You are not balancing the weight and those little muscles that you dont know about are not firing. Squat and deadlifts work the most muscles of any workout. Do not do them in a smith machine. This is of mark rippetoe…
  • Everyone who starts stronglifts should look at both of these on Youtube: (FORM IS KEY!!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP2g3Sj3qSw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro3Mh9o7JPU Also look up each workouts form videos by mark rippetoe and I have a personal favorite for powerlifting…
  • I switched overnight... I bought shoes that made it hurt to heel strike thin thin thin soled shoes. then I watched about 20 or so youtube vids on proper run form.
  • I suggest running in a nice downtown area with extremely expensive houses... you can dream while you run by them... hahaha oh and beer is an awesome post long run refreshment... :)
  • I wish someone told me heel striking was bad... I learned the hard way... 1.5 mile walk back from a run with shins in the worst pain they have ever been in. oh and you will experience runners stomach when you run far enough... had that happen 2 miles out... and there was no bathroom between me and the start point that I…
  • Best thing I can tell you to do is consistently log your food and workouts. Just take it as an extra activity you do after each meal. It has worked wonders for me. Though now I have figured out how to get past my last plateau which is lifting heavy. Be consistent and watch what you eat and the weight will come off. Good…
  • Didn't read through all the pages. Been doing stronglifts 5x5 for 7 session (MWF) and running on the days off. Already lost 5 lbs and losing the belly fat much faster than with cardio alone. I was not getting the results I wanted from insanity and promply switched to Stronglifts and running... Best move I could have ever…

  • Funny thing is we learn how to do every sport we have to participate in, yet when it comes to running we believe we need no instruction. I think others have alluded to not heel striking I believe this is the number one cause of shin splints... next is probably not keeping your feet under you as you land. I used to only be…
  • I personally despise treadmills. I would rather run outside in the cold rain... Wait I did that today... 20 degree weather. The not going anywhere thing makes me angry. It's a nice day out and you're on a treadmill... Well at least you are doing something.
  • people actually using the treadmill.... run outside!!! unless you are working on speed or the conditions outside are too harsh.
  • rest is just as important as working out. Dont overdo it
  • Interesting, I have a long way to go before I worry about that. Just trying to get back to highschool strength... About 315 bench, 400lb squat (was doing 500lb 1/2squats), and 400+ lb dead lifts. 6 months away...
  • Just out of curiousity... If you want to power lift, don't you just use more weight? I used to do that a long time ago and it seemed to get me no where. Not criticizing just curious.
  • only chance you have is with a Heart Rate Monitor. Otherwise no idea.
  • tomorrow is going to determine how I will continue to do Insanity with strong lifts... my arms are too small at 14 5/8 inches. I want them between 18-20 in like in high school. I dont want to be scrawny. My chest is at 43 in and I want it at 48 again. I would like to not only look strong, but actually be strong.
  • Finished my last workout of week 3 and have been kind of out of it the past week. I feel waaaaay better after getting my vitamin supplements that I havent had for a week. Hope next week will be better. I also started strong lifts 5x5, but I sort of refuse to start at the beginning weight.... So I found my close to 5rep…
  • Friday is a weird day to start a routine, but to each his own. Good luck and dont give up or give in!!!
  • Today was fit test 2! Switch kicks 59 power jacks- 52 power knees- 82 power jumps- 48 (woooo!!!) globe jumps- 8 (a little disappointed was hoping for 9-10) suicide jumps- 15 push up jacks- 35 low plank oblique- 48 This was motivating!!!! Dig Deeper!!!!
  • Aiming to take Saturdays off I see. Today is my off day and my fitness test is tomorrow. Almost messed up my weight loss by switching to a carb heavy diet. Switched to eating sweet potatoes everyday and the weight started going up. going to start consuming a lot of broccoli instead for potassium.
  • I have the ultimate solution... Please stop heel striking. Start landing midfoot/forefoot instead of on your heel and it will go away/never happen again. At one point 2 years ago I couldn't run for longer than 10 minutes due to the pain of shin splints. I learned that heel striking causes a plethora of problems including…
  • Tried minimalist running shoes once... Quickly paused the video and switched shoes...
  • I know I have said this before, but please pick up some glutamine if you are worried about soreness. It has been a life saver!
  • I stopped heel striking... Cured it over night. Keep your feet under you and midfoot strike. I really need to have a copy paste to shin splint pain. If you can buy minimalist shoes that force you to run better or your heel will fall off. I blame Nike for shin splints.
  • Shin splints == heel striker Try to keep your feet under you and land midfoot. I had the same problem which caused me to have to walk 1.5miles in agonizing pain. Cured the problem overnight by landing midfoot. Thick heeled shoes are the devil!
  • Anything that is not a thick heel. It only makes you want to heel strike. I am a huge advocate of not heel striking due to all the injuries it can cause from the shin all the way up to the neck. Once had shin splints that hit hard 1.5 miles from my destination.... had to walk back 1.5 miles extremely slow. Learned how to…
