Follow a structured program like C25K (ensures you build an adequate base and don't burn out, gives you a plan to follow and a sense of accomplishment). Implicit in this advice: you need to get out there regularly. SLOW DOWN. Seriously, slow down even more. If you're losing your breath quickly, you're going too fast. If…

I'm in my late twenties and my HR also shoots up while exercising (similar to what you've reported, but I go even higher when running). It really freaked me out when I first started using a HR monitor, especially since it seemed impossible to work out in the "right" range. I got the same advice that others have shared--not…

Beginner here. I've always loved Body Pump, which is a total body workout, but I'm having a lot more success after switching to a program that does body part splits. I get sore super easily, so it's hard for me to keep up with regular full body workouts. On this new program, I am working out 6 days a week, establishing a…

A lot of good responses on here! I specifically want to second walking regularly for a couple of weeks (carving out that time and making a habit of following a regular exercise schedule, plus easing your way into it) and then starting C25K--it's so important not to overdo it and I was never able to make running…

This thread is so inspirational! I love it! Y'all have definitely convinced me that I need to find time to start lifting heavy.

Hi all! Today will be day 9 for my boyfriend and I (he joined me on day 5--awesome!) and we plan to try out level 2 for the first time. I'm a bit nervous, as I was just getting comfortable with level 1. But that's why it's time to move on :) I didn't start from scratch fitness-wise, but I still found the early days…

Thanks, y'all! I got the routine from a fitness magazine clipping a friend gave me. Since the directions didn't mention adjusting the position of your arms, and it looked like the model's hands were in the same place throughout, I think I got fixated on the idea that I was doing something wrong. And I'm honestly a little…

My boyfriend and I do not jog together because he's much much faster than me. In general, he has more athletic ability, despite the fact that I work out regularly and he does once in a blue moon. One thing we've found that does work for both of us is the NYT 7 minute workout:…

Your assertion that "when a person goes with out food the body first uses any available carbs in the system, then the fat reserve's, and finally it starts to break down its own muscle tissue (mainly from voluntary muscles)" is NOT scientific fat, but rather wishful thinking. A low calorie diet or cardio exercise is going…

Thanks everyone for your input! I think I'm going to go with the FT4... and I'm pretty excited! And I'm going to use it for exercise, not all day. The "continuous monitoring" bit was confusing, but I was just trying to differentiate between the band and touch models.

After my first month of steadily going to the gym 3-4 days a week (doing a mix of cardio and strength), I gained 4lbs. I was so discouraged! BUT I got a ton of compliments on a picture taken of me at exactly a month in, and I saw my family around that time and they also told me I looked great--my body had already started…

i'm 24, turning 25 this summer. I don't share a lot of ideas about exercise and nutrition because I'm at the beginning of my journey and I am trying not to over think things. I could spend HOURS reading about the ideal diet or most effective way to change body composition (and I have), but the bottom line is that I need to…

Wow, you look incredible! Also just wanted to say that you carried your weight very well. Your face definitely looks different now, but you were so beautiful at every weight.

Whoa! 127 is a pretty low weight for someone who's 5'8" and not a naturally slender type (maybe you are--pregnancy can be rough for everyone). You definitely don't need to lose that much weight to get down to 28% body fat. My body fat was 23% when I last had it checked and I weighed 154 at the time.

I was a dedicated JUDDDer (intermittent fasting) for six months in college. I lost a lot of weight, which motivated me to keep going, but I developed incredibly unhealthy habits (eating all the junky food I craved when I wasn't fasting) and felt terrible most of the time. My energy levels and emotional stability suffered…

I'm 5'8" and my goal weight is 140. I have broad shoulders, big hips, and a long torso, so my waist is proportionally small. I think I look best with a little weight to emphasize my natural curves. At 158, my measurements are 38D-30-38. I want to be back in the 36C-27.5-36 range, which was 135-140 before. I'm blessed that…

Ugh, this is a huge issue for me! I love all types of beer (cheap to rare microbrews), taking shots with my girls, strong specialty cocktails, and wine glorious WINE. I grew up in a family where drinking was a daily thing and was quite the party girl in HS and college. I'm 24 now and I've cut back a LOT in the last two…

I'm 24 and looking good this summer is a big motivation for me too--I love the beach and live in skimpy clothes when it's warm out! 140 lbs is my goal weight as well. Adding you!

I'm a recovering binge eater too, as well as a wannabe runner. Added you!
