  • I really don't like syrup (maple or table) at all. I'll use a little strawberry jam on top, or my favourite is to thaw out some frozen strawberries as topping. As the strawberries thaw, they make a bit of their own juice which is nice to pour over the pancakes. I do add about a 1/2tsp of sugar to a cup of frozen…
  • Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will be trying some of them out!
  • My first job was at 14 and I worked in the local small town grocery store cleaning the meat department. I'm surprised I didn't go the vegetarian route, that job was disgusting! I was there about 6mths before I moved to big city Vancouver! I worked in a video store for 2 years. Loved that job. Pretty easy work, good…
  • I work out at home, before my shower/hair/makeup, so can't comment on 'gym mommies'. But when I leave the house (to drop off kids at school, go to the park, go grocery shopping, whatever), I always take the 5min to throw my hair up in a cute bun and 5min to put on some quick makeup. Why shouldn't I look put together just…
  • I have two kids (6 and 4), and have my activity set to 'lightly active'. So I don't count all the cleaning, chasing, walking to/from school (when its not too cold or snowy!), grocery shopping, etc. I'm set to lose 1lb per week and am at 1390cal. I usually hit about that give/take 100cal. I've lost 12lbs so far, and when I…
  • My downfall has always been night time snacking too. We eat dinner quite early, and honestly by 9pm I'm hungry! So I've learned to leave myself enough calories for a bowl of cereal (mini-wheats, my vice of choice) and sometimes a hot chocolate. I always have a peppermint tea and sometimes if I've had a really large or late…
  • I love Pinterest! I pinned a bunch of the Bodyrock videos, but found them really confusing. I do like those types of exercises where I can just put on my own music and do some basics, I just never know what/how many to do. Off to scroll through the fitness section, thanks!
  • I'm 5'8", and started Jan 9th at 157. I'm now down to almost my goal weight of 145 (I was 145.6 my last weigh in). So I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I'm not hungry or deprived, I feel better when I eat better, there is nothing that I've 'cut out' of my diet, I really just changed my portions and eating out of boredom. So I…
  • I'm 5'8" as well. Up until I was 25 I was always around 135. I wasn't 'toned' or anything, but I had a job as a waitress and can only imagine how many km a day I was walking. I got married and hubby and I fell into some bad eating/activity habits and put on 25lbs before having my first son. Since having my second son I…
  • I am so sorry that happened to you. I had nearly the exactly same thing happen to me and 15years later it still bothers me. I don't think I ever told anyone that before. I hope that by venting and reading the responses here, you'll just be even more motivated to continue your journey!
  • I haven't gone through all the replies, but I have an elliptical that I enjoy. Also, I wanted to try Zumba, but I wasn't finding many good reviews of DVD's. So i went on youtube and found tons of videos and made my own playlist and play on shuffle. I get to choose the instructors and songs that I like that way. I've done…
  • I did a "learn to run" clinic last spring and it was fantastic. If you can, see if you can find a local one, huge support system and there really is a lot to learn! Some things I learned are "slow down!". Many people think they need to just start running and go until you can't. Start with walk/run. If you can't carry on a…
  • Thanks for everyone's help!! And Iddreams, I wish I'd seen that sooner, it would've been easier!
  • I found a "beef and vegetable yorkshire pudding" 350gm. I think its a frozen ready meal. I compared it to when I eat a frozen ready meal that is 300gm/tray, I figure I ate about 1.5 that amount, so went with that (and entered 1.5 x 350gm, if that makes any sense at all). It worked out to about 550cal, plus I quick added…
  • Thanks for the suggestions! As I want to give it a go tomorrow, I'll try it in just socks and see how it goes. I've found all the videos on Youtube. Started by searching "zumba" and then just floated around looking at different 'suggestions". I found tons!
  • Last March I signed up with my local Running Room for a 'Learn to Run' class. It was great! There was tons of support, they really do start you slow, there was a talk each week about different running topics. It culminated with a 5k at the end. I loved it! I usually ran by myself or with another woman who was about my…
  • I have tried to like oatmeal but just can't acquire the taste for it. But if you like it, that would be my suggestion. I found an idea where you make oatmeal, freeze it in muffin tins, then can just pop one in the microwave for a minute or two. That way you can make it at night or when you have more time. I like a half…
  • This sounds so good! Thanks!
  • okay, my husband and I just can't see it. clues?
  • Hah! These are great!
  • Calgary girl here! Lived in Scotland for a short time, they would say 'toilets' instead of 'washrooms' which I always thought sounded a bit more crass. Or 'loo' or 'wc' (water closet). I prefer washrooms!
  • And you probably already know this, but it took me awhile before I learned so I'll mention it just in case, when you exercise and add it to your tracker, you 'earn' extra calories to eat.
  • I make some whole wheat toast, lightly spread some cal-wise miracle whip, divide the tuna over the toast, put a wee bit of cheddar on it, and broil until the cheese is melted and the tuna is warmed up. Adding a slice or two of tomato is awesome too!
  • Also, I find that with most recipes, I can use a fraction of the amount of olive oil called for and still get great results if I'm using a good non-stick pan. Example, tonight I made chicken souvlaki, and the recipe called for 1/4c of olive oil for the marinade. I used just under 2tbsp, and it was plenty! (and of course…
  • What do you want it for? Salsa, tzatziki, hummus, steak spice, seasoning salt, low fat/cal salad dressings are all things I like.
  • I have a splash of skim milk and a loose (not packed) 1/2-1 tsp of brown sugar (demerara). I much prefer the flavour of the brown sugar!!
  • 1/4c homemade hummus with no tahini with a HUGE plate of veggies. Regular hummus still has more calories, so I make it myself. Cheap, healthy, yummy and much easier on the numbers. Oh, and I've had to push the veggies away because I had so many I couldn't finish them!. Hummus - I don't have the recipe on hand, but i think…
  • 1/2 toasted blueberry bagel with pot of yogurt on the side if I have time to toast! Or 1.5 servings of raisin bran on my rushed mornings.
