  • Funny thing about that- Gwyneth Paltrow's personal trainer evidently has gone on record saying women should never lift anything heavier than 3 pound dumbbells. She has Gwyneth doing *hundreds* of reps with light weights. Wish she would take a tour through some of these posts. She'd probably crap her pants seeing what OP…
  • Wow, those are really heavy glute bridges. Forgive my ignorance, but how does that work? Is it just a barbell with 200-300 pounds on it? I google imaged "weighted glute bridges" but the majority of pictures show much lighter weights (less than 50 pounds). What was your deadweight starting point? Congrats on your results…
  • Yeah, I wish I would have been on myfitness pal in 2011, when two posters on another fitness message board got into it about the whole calories in/calories out debate. Despite the fact that Poster #1 patiently explained that she lost 35 pounds by eating everything in moderation and posting before and after pics, Poster #2…
  • I know right? Makes me so mad, all that time I wasted in the late 90s doing 100s of situps a day because Britney Spears claimed that's what gave her great abs. Had someone just told me that until I put down the cheetos and the 32 oz of sugared coke I was consuming every day, I was wasting my time, that would have been…
  • Usually about 30-40 minutes 5-6 days a week. I rarely (if ever) do cardio and weights on the same day. But I take short rest breaks, bring water with me, and generally have all my weights nearby (since I switch for various exercises) so the amount of time I spend not actually involved in a workout is pretty minimal.
  • I've been at it for close to two months, while eating at a very minimal deficit. I do not think I have lost any inches yet, nor much weight. But, I do feel like things are tighter. My overall mass is unchanged, but things jiggle much less. It is still though a very slow process and I bet the majority of people in my life…
  • I had a c-section in 2011. It did seem like it took a long time for my stomach to go back to normal. I don't recall doing any particular exercises to get rid of it- I think I just had to wait it out. 6 weeks is not very much time yet. Walking and elliptical are good exercises to ease back in. The most important thing I…
  • I am the same way. I am just under 5'3, and at about 114 pounds my BMI is in the lower range of healthy, but I too am very small boned and I have lots of areas of jiggly fat that I can't stand. People tend to tell me I'm just seeing things but when I run down the stairs, I feel the fat on my back jiggling and I hate it. I…
  • I used to never eat vegetables. Maybe occasionally baby carrots for a snack, or if I went out to eat I might order steamed veggies as a side, but that was about it. Now I try to eat 3-4 servings a day, mixing up raw and cooked. I agree with the posters that say the way you prepare can make a big difference. My brother in…
  • I asked the same question about a year ago and got a lot of helpful answers. Right now, it's pretty easy because my husband can take my daughter to daycare in the mornings. So, I get up between 4 and 5 am and go to the gym. This is really nice for me because my daughter is sleeping still so I am not missing any additional…
  • I personally wouldn't approach a stranger at the gym unsolicited, but if you truly thought he was in danger of seriously hurting himself using poor form, I certainly wouldn't think less of you for warning him about it. That being said, if you just think his workouts are ineffective I'd leave it alone, and I certainly…
  • Oh don't encourage the poster. You can find a "study" that proves almost anything. OP, there are thin people who drink diet coke and there are overweight people who avoid it. I don't think you will see a huge drop in weight from cutting it out.
  • I think the comment about setting women back didn't have anything to do with OP's fitness level or exercise routine. Rather it was regarding the fact that OP was practicing poor gym etiquette, and when called on it, immediately assumed she was being singled out because she's female vs being called out because she was in…
  • True. Given the way OP says he too kept people from using the equipment while he himself was not using it, I'd say it was less about being polite and more of a passive aggressive swipe at OP for treating a public gym like its there for her private use.
  • Well I'm sure husband is happy to oblige
  • I don't, but if I were actively trying to lose weight I would. If you're snatching bites here and there and still losing weight, then I see no reason to log. But if you're gaining or not losing, I'd say those extra bites are the culprit and if you want to lose, you need to track them. Personally, I grab handfuls of dry…
  • On the weekends, I love scrambled eggs with one piece of toast and some kind of fruit. I'll probably still eat before lunch, but that keeps me the fullest. Mon-Fri I have to be out of the house by 6 am, and prior to that, I have to get ready for work, get my daughter up, get her changed and dressed, pack my lunch, take…
  • While I do find a lot of the guys at my gym intimidating, I have to admit, the few times I have asked for help (either in removing very heavy plates or with a quick demonstration of how a particular piece of equipment works) the guys in the gym have been very helpful. And as I usually look like a hot mess at the gym, I can…
  • In general, I agree that it is the parents' responsibility to ensure the health of their children, and that involves monitoring what they eat and insisting on overall healthy diet. And how strict you need to be and what you need to limit is up to the individual parent to decide. I might feel sorry for a kid who is never…
  • Oh boy, these "and this is why I'm better than everyone" posts really don't go over well around here. OP glad your child is a good eater with a good temperament. Attributing her laid back personality to your militant views on food might be a stretch. I guarantee you she won't be happy and laidback when all the other kids…
  • Push ups have by FAR done more to change my body than anything else. Now, granted, I am eating better (not necessarily less, but better nutrition wise) but I swear even though I haven't lost any weight for over a month, my midsection gets tighter every day and my backfat is slowly decreasing. I am on the 30 day push-up…
  • It's true for me. When I was a kid, my parents both worked a lot and my mom had night classes. My dad was usually in charge of dinner and we had spaghetti 2-3 nights a week, pancakes 2-3 nights, and probably ate out 1-2 times (by eating out, I mean usually fast food or pizza- we didn't have a lot of money growing up).…
  • I think she means she wants a flat stomach without the muscle definition. Think more Victoria's Secret swimsuit model than a fitness model. I would quit the sit ups OP as I think they're mainly a waste of time. I'd focus on short bursts of high intensity cardio- when you're doing your power walking maybe throw in some one…
  • Just checked out your butt pictures and holy cow, you weren't kidding. Nice job! That is probably exactly the transformation the OP is talking about.
  • I love the title. I'm 5'3. I don't have a set weight goal. I have a lot of back fat, a potbelly, and a little extra weight on my hips, upper arms, and upper thighs. I'll be happy if I can get rid of that, and am not overly concerned with where I end up weight wise. Right now I am focusing on workouts for increased strength…
  • I sort of am. I have been wanting to lose 10 pounds for the last year. I can't get too upset though, because I'm not really that diligent about calorie counting. I sort of guess, and shrug if I want to eat something unhealthy. I am guessing most days I'm at a deficit, but like a deficit of 100-200 calories, so it is slow…
  • Haha. I have a bit of a soft spot for Jillian, because A. I think she can be funny, B. She can do a series of one armed pullups, and C. I read a slew of diet books last summer, including hers, and she was the ONLY one who didn't make the claim that bread was the devil and that fruit should be limited and bananas avoided…
