I can't picture working 5x5 alone, nevermind at home alone. I have mental images of me trapped under a weight for days. To think I'm paying a PT just to spot me

I'm starting lower back strain at 135 on deads. But my major issue is hand pain.. I feel like my fingers are being ripped off
-
I too use the smart phone apps which are very helpful. I have alos found that as weights increase so do my needed rests. My 30 min sessions are now closer to 45 mins.

I would, as I did, tell the PT to get with the 5x5 program as written. Stronglifts starts with just the Olympic Bar, which is 45lbs. If that's too heavy for a newbie the standard bar or a "women's bar" is 35lbs.. My PT was initially shocked at my firm direction, but has since become a 5x5 convert. Something to consider: if…

I had the same issues with trainers wanting to push their agenda aka fitness BS. When I decided to do 5x5 I walked back into the gym, asked for the fitness manager, and TOLD him I was doing 5x5 and needed a spotter only. If they had one with great insight into technique and form great! otherwise I was planing to follow…

It just shoots down the idea that lifting heavy reduces body fat :-(

God knows I can use all the help I can get on this ! I'm still suffering at 55 And while I totally respect Riptoe, I have to say.....look at that gut

I think if you pay close attention to form, the rax will be ok. be prepared to not make the gains you would normaly with free weights, as the machine reduces involvement of the stabilizers.

There is some science behind the hype. BUT...BUT... to get the minimal benefits reported you have to mega dose both ketones and green coffee bean. It makes it unmanagable in the real world, pricey and again for little benefit

I like using this thread to track my progess and get advice: Squats 105 OHP 55 dreadful Deadlift 130 Bench 75 Rows 75 All 5x5 except deadlift Anyone else's hand hurt with the dead?
-
Again- all protein.. But maybe the wrong lips

I'm feeling the same way. making good progess with other lifts, but OHP remains messy. I did have the unique experience of having a young PT at the gym approach me while doing my 5x5 and ask me to "teach her" the format.
-
Thanks for the reply.. Now that I'm seeing progess in adding weight to my bar, I need to clean up my diet. I've not l;ast weight, but have seen a loss of inches.

Look up "muscle pump". Technicaly a swelling as the muscles are challanged, pull alot of fluid in to achieve recovery.
-
If you really want to change your body (and not just "lose weight") then definitely make lifting your #1 priority. If you have energy left for some moderate cardio on a couple off days, then go for it (but no HIIT as that greatly interferes with muscle recovery). But if not don't sweat it! (no pun intended lol) ^ THIS^ a…

This is BY FAR the toughest lift in 5x5 especially for women. Its ALL schoulders which are so easily neglected in daily life. By all means start slow-form means everything! Check out you tube-Mehdi has his own Strong Lifts channel. Great resourse to learn form
-
FOund mine, surprisingly, at walmart. My PT picked some up at sears

Is it better to limit reps, say do 3 instead of 5, but do the move well; OR fight thru the reps despite form getting sloppy??? I'm currently doing 55lbs, but the last set is a hot mess
