  • But I like to prepare my foods, including baked goods. And if I make it, then I know what goes into it (also why I have raised chickens, ducks and rabbits). I doubt that my Air Buns recipe would work if I used wholegrain, multigrain flour (I haven't tried it, maybe I should), and it is difficult to get anything other that…
  • Yesterday's lunch consisted of leftover chicken chow mein (homemade) over greens (didn't need a dressing as the chow mein had lots of flavour). Before that it was leftover chicken taco meat with quinoa over greens. I have lunch at work so it usually ends up being leftover dinner with salad greens (easy prep). Am learning…
  • Will locate my recipe and post it after work and workout this evening (and as I looked in the freezer t his morning - I think I have run out so may have to make more!)
  • I prefer to do my oatmeal in the oven - I get to make enough for a number of meals/snacks. I make them various sizes (mini-muffin for snacks (1/4 c. =75 cal, 1/2 cup size for meals = 150 cal.) and add different nuts, seeds, and flavourings. Obviously, the calorie counts would differ a bit depending on what I put in it.
  • I almost always check the package information to the database info, and if there is a discrepancy, I edit the information in the database.
  • I too have heard that you should only eat when you're hungry, but as one who has skipped breakfast for so long (I didn't feel hungry) I felt it necessary to force myself to eat breakfast. I think as our bodies go into "starvation mode" it makes it so we don't feel hungry (mind tricks). As a result, I think you need to look…
  • Being rushed one day, picked out a very plain, sour cream doughnut (one of my previous favorites) to go 'til after a workout. Afterwards, when completing the diary, it was realized could have had a whole egg white breakfast muffin, or a whole wholegrain bagel for the calories in this single doughnut! Lesson learned.
  • She is probably close to her goal weight. My daughter is about 145 lbs, with maybe 10 lbs left to go and at 5'2" and her activity level, her recommended calories from MFP is 1200 calories. Since she has started training for a mini-marathon she has been eating back some of her exercise calories
  • I eat rice, quinoa, coucous and pastas regularly. Rice is always brown (usually basmati), pastas are wholegrain (omega-3 enriched), and wholegrain, multigrain breads (I could live off of just bread, especially if fresh baked) Lunches consist of a serving of one of these, with 2-3 oz of lean meat and veggies (usually…
  • - like playing on the swings and teeter totter - would rather play with my pets that do my homework - pass on the veggies - love macaroni and cheese (homemade tho')
  • I guess you could use raspberries (mashed?) instead of preserves, swap out some of the all-purpose flour with whole-wheat, and cut back on the sugar (half cup could be palatable). Not sure what you would do about all the butter, I doubt that substituting applesauce would work. So you could cut down some of the sugar in the…
  • What birth control are you using? IUD could be aggravated by the exercise? What other stressors do you have going on? My daughter has always had less that desirable occurrences with her cycle, and stress plays a big part.
  • Doesn't look like you are very good at tracking your food and that could be the problem. That and the fact that you are making poor food choices. I noticed a number of high sodium/high sugar foods. Instead of using tortilla wraps, choose to use whole lettuce leaves. You should also combine a complex carb (whole grains,…
  • Figure it must mean Binge Eating Disorder. Am not familiar with it, however if it is a mental health issue, talking with professionals would definitely be a start. Here in Canada, we have some pretty good health programs, including treatment centers for Eating Disorders. Not sure what would be available south of the border.
  • I am 5'2" (don't think I have started shrinking yet!) and at my heaviest I weighed 233lbs. Last year I lost 30 lbs in 4 months (only doing cardio), then went on to lose another 10 lbs in the following month. Then over the winter I gained back 25 lbs (no cardio, boo - hiss). Now this year, did a 10 week fitness challenge…
  • I would love a mommy lift. Yup, breastfed three wonderful children and packed around too much weight for too long, combined with gravity and I am looking quite 'wilted'. I am working hard at loosing the weight and building muscle, so I figure if I can save the money, it would be a wonderful reward for my hard work. I…
  • Am 5'2" (I think, not sure if I have begun shrinking yet - don't want to know), and 50 years old. So I have a bit harder time at the losing game. In 2010 I lost 40 lbs by walking and adjusting eating habits. Then in 2011, I let it slide and gained back 25 lbs. So this year, my daughter and I started out in a 10 week…
  • My 27 year old daughter and I joined a 10 week fitness challenge in January, and I had a weight loss goal in mind. Since then, have celebrated 2 birthdays and faced the monthly cravings and thought that I might not make it to my end challenge weight goal. Weighed in today and am now thinking that yes it is possible. I had…
  • Baked Oatmeal with greek yogurt and berries; Wrap or english muffin with egg whites, light cheese and turkey bacon; Clean Eating Frittata with multigrain/wholegrain toast; Clean Eating Mini Buckwheat pancakes with blueberries topped with greek yogurt; Greek yogurt with Jordan;s Morning Crisp or Kashi Go Lean cereal;…
  • Age definitely makes a difference! If you decide to calculate your own Base Metabolic Rate (you can find various formulas on line) and all of them factor in a person's age. As well the weight you start out out makes a difference as well. Both my daughter and I are 5'2". Her BMR is 1700-1800 (if she doesn't want to lose any…
  • Just turned 50 and have been packing around way too much weight for too long. I started to walk and improve my eating habits in the summer of 2010, lost 40 lbs. Then took the winter off because my rosacea didn't like me out in the winter weather. Well I managed to gain back 25 lbs. This year my daughter and I entered a…
  • 233 lbs at 5' 2". That was a couple of years ago - thought I was going to be a free agent, so lost 40lbs and felt pretty good, Gained some of it back, but now am back at working it off. It might be quicker, easier if I didn't have to keep modifying to low impact (these 50 year old joints just aren't very resilient!).
  • Yeah, I just took a quick look too, and yes he can be ingesting that much sodium. He could try to find lower sodium cheese (like Swiss), perhaps find a low sodium salsa (or homemade if possible), and he could try cooking chicken and turkey breast at home and store in the fridge as the processed deli meats are killers.…
  • considering the average daily intake of sodium should be kept to 2500 mg/day, my thought would be to almost double the water because your sodium is almost doubled. I assume the increased sodium is because of continuous physical exertion almost daily? Even still, I think boosting your vitamins a better tactic. My husband…
  • Terri (Bettelovr) I can empathize. I just turned 50 and I find that I am always asking the fitness instructor for alternate exercises because my joints seem to take turns swelling and hurting - all the more reason to get into better shape. Two years ago I lost 40 lbs over the summer (by walking and eating healthier), but…
  • Hello all, Just joined MFP and found the leader for this forum on the right hand side, thought I would take a look and introduce myself. My daughter and I just started a fitness challenge at a local gym - and I am feeling my age! After the first night, my wrist was wrapped up (swollen and painful from the push-ups), so had…
