Umk well helloooo to all you random strangers Ive never met before, with whom Im about to divulge all my personal information to...Yeah, hey...And how are you this evening?....Ok awkwardness outta the way, now lets jus hug it out, and ok, now were BFFs lol....My names Mikki, and Im about to blurt out a bunch of random things...Ok so, Ive tried so many times to change my eating habits, and it never fails...BED always comes back and kills it...I do so well for a few days, then BAM! I 'F' everything up with the most random binges...I literally black out and cant even remember what I ate...Im never hungry when I do it...I dont have cravings...Im not feeling down...Its almost like its habit now...Been doing it for years...I get all anxious when I try and control it and always end up giving in...Im a freakin addict and its craziness...Idk if anyone else experiences it to this extreme, but I def feel helpless about it...Its forreal to the point where my family has to hide food from me...I mean, holy rediculousness...So yeah, idk if any of yinz are goin through the same thing, or know someone who is, or if you jus have some helpful advice...Im honestly thinking medication at this point, but if anyone has conquered it without, Id love to hear about it and maybe try a different approach...But yeah, thanks for listening to my late night rant and yinz take care! :)

I'm guessing Binge Eating Disorder from her post. Not sure how to address it, except maybe suggest counseling. It sounds very serious.

Have you tried over-eaters anonymous? I tried it once, it just wasn't for me and I've found self control with the calorie restriction but it seems to really help some people. It might be a great place to get support, they give you phone numbers so you can reach out to people when you have those moments and most of the people are willing to take calls 24/7 because they too are in recovery and have been where you are.

Figure it must mean Binge Eating Disorder. Am not familiar with it, however if it is a mental health issue, talking with professionals would definitely be a start.

Here in Canada, we have some pretty good health programs, including treatment centers for Eating Disorders. Not sure what would be available south of the border.

It does sound like you need to talk to someone about this.
I'd recommend that you google the eating disorders support organisation in your part of the world and give them a call -usually they have an anonymous helpline who should be able to put you in touch with some local support and resouces.

You might also like to have a look at a book by Gillian Riley called "Eating Less". It was recommended by someone on here and has some really good things to say about addictive eating and how to make changes.

    Good luck!

A treatment program. If you are serious, you must know that's the only answer.

Allow me to reiterate: BED is just as serious and potentially harmful as anorexia or bulimia. Go get professional help.

I am bulimic and I am currently in recovery, there are a few support groups on mfp if you want to talk it out with people who understand.

Oddly your story sounds really similar to something that I do, but it's not to do with eating. I have found seeing a psychologist to be really helpful. I will write to you personally to explain. Great work talking about it - that is the first thing that will start helping!

I don't know if i know too much about this specifically- but often eating disorders that come with binging are heavily related to feelings of control- you don't feel personally in control of your eating. So when you try to control it, negative thoughts come in and tell you that there's no way you personally can control it- leading to a binge.

I dunno if binging is also a form is self-sabotage- i used to and still do this sometimes... I dunno how to avoid that, maybe by being self-aware and positive.

Maybe work on your self-esteem and help yourself out by developing a more positive perspective on how much control you have over how you behave. (Low self-esteem is correlated with an external locus of control if that makes sense)

Hope that gives you a few things to think about, and good luck!

Yes binging can be a direct link to making yourself suffer/punishment.

Counseling could help with the underlying issues that are causing you to binge. I think that is the first step to in working toward stopping this behavior. I hope things start to get better for you.
  • Thank all of you soo much for taking time out to give me advice...Means a lot to feel like Im not alone, and all the honesty is appreciated...Ive considered counseling, but jus never went through with it cause I always have it in my mind that its not that bad and its jus a phase and I can eventually control it over time...Which is BS Ive been telling myself for a while now...I mean dude, Im 26 and already need a therapist...Yeah...My life is awesome lol...But yinz have all been very helpful...Cept for that one dude sayin itll cure itself...Yeah, buddy...I wish lol...Thank you anyway tho...That was cute lol...Id love it if I jus woke up tomorrow 50 pounds lighter without BED, but this isnt the land of unicorns and pixies lol ;p

    Hi,
I read this last night & been thinking about it. I definitely agree with those who suggest getting psychological help, but also see if you can get a referral to a medical doctor who specializes in eating disorders. Sometimes there are hormonal issues in addition to the psychological ones. I just read an article that suggested that ghrelin, the hormone that causes the feeling of hunger, can possibly cause BED (among other things) if it's out of wack.
