Sodium/water ratio?

I routinely consume an average of 4300mg sodium. Is there a certain water/fluid intake goal I should strive for with that amount of sodium aside from the recommended 8cups x 8oz?

Rather than increasing water... try cutting down on the sodium. 4300mg sounds excessive and can lead to high blood pressure regardless of increasing water intake. If you can't, try to drink more than the suggested 64 oz. of water.0

That's nearly double the recommended sodium max for a day, so I would say to try and double the 8 cups of water. Also see what you can do to lower your sodium intake as that can cause some serious health issues. I have had hypertension in the past (during my last pregnancy), and it's not something fun to deal with. But just changing my diet around a little ended up taking care of that too.0

I guess my question is, how do you consume that much sodium? Just curious!
EDIT: I just looked at your diary, and there is no way that those foods have that much sodium!!!0 -
considering the average daily intake of sodium should be kept to 2500 mg/day, my thought would be to almost double the water because your sodium is almost doubled. I assume the increased sodium is because of continuous physical exertion almost daily? Even still, I think boosting your vitamins a better tactic. My husband had a very physical job out of doors and he used to take salt pills, then he was advised to take "Emergen-C", a vitamin replacement - and this worked as well as the salt pills0

Yeah, I just took a quick look too, and yes he can be ingesting that much sodium. He could try to find lower sodium cheese (like Swiss), perhaps find a low sodium salsa (or homemade if possible), and he could try cooking chicken and turkey breast at home and store in the fridge as the processed deli meats are killers. Anything that comes from a can, as well. Could try substituting some egg whites for the whole egg.
As borderline hypertensive, I keep an eye on my sodium intake and so have become diligent about reading labels. I am now also watching my sugars, as studies have shown this to be the culprit contributing to belly fat (that and stress). Just eating an apple will use up almost a third of my daily allowance for sugars!0 -

That was kind of my issue too.... I feel like I've been eating at least semi decent. I enter items with the most confirmations, or use the barcode scanner on my phone.0 -

Earlier I seasoned my eggs with zatarans creole seasoning.. laid off of that, and I've never added table salt to anything.
Sometimes if I get a bout of the munchees I'll have a slice of lunch meat or something like that. I figured it was better than candy or some other empty calorie snack.

Processed foods are loaded with sodium. Restaurant foods are as bad, if not worse. As another poster mentioned, you might do well to look into alternatives which contain less sodium. Simply drinking more water isn't going to cut it because sodium and potassium need to balance in your body and you should be getting 3500 mg of potassium per day to balance with the maximum 1500-2500 mg of sodium. Odds are that if you're eating foods really high in sodium that you aren't getting nearly enough potassium to balance it and that can definitely cause issues for you if it continues. Therefore, in addition to trying to lower your sodium, you might also look into trying to increase your potassium consumption.0

Obviously that much sodium is not recommended. The culprit does seem to be the processed foods. Those deli meats are nuts with salt.
Hows your weight? Is it doing what you want it to do? Are you feeling sodium bloated?
If it's not doing what you think it's supposed to be then up your water. If everything is going according to plan, then leave your water intake as it is.
You're a runner, so you are actually using up / sweating out more than a normal person would, so you might be ok.
But yea, I'd work on removing the processed foods from your diet.
And I did notice at least a couple of items that I thought were abnormally high in sodium, so you might not be getting as much as you think.0 -

As far as feeling bloated, not at all, The weight is dropping off between a pound and 2 a week. It all seems to be going well.
I've never been diagnosed with any type of hypertension, and every trip to the doctor and between dr visits the pharmacy blood pressure stations all show normal.
This is why I was asking. everything seems normal with me, but the numbers just seem really high.0
