  • I'm 3 1/2 years out. I focus on trying to get between 90-120 g of protein every day. Complex carbs are secondary. I eat avocado & nuts for fasts but also use low fat mayo in my tuna. Once in a while I splurge and have a little butter on veggies . I try to keep my calories at 1200 per day. I do not eat back my calories that…
  • Wonderful options !
  • Lol...I'm 3 1/2 years post-op and mine sounds like a bear sometimes. I have a friend at work who has heard it and he'll ask me if I need to tame the beast. He knows about my RNY and understands my tummy has a voice of it's own. It's the backfiring that worries me the most!
  • Please be pro-active in your vitamins. It is a matter of life and death. Yes, death can occur from vitamin deficiencies. Do not settle for just a "good chewable multivitamin". Research vitamins that are recommended for bariatric patients as opposed to the standard chewables. Some people take Flintstones and other gummies.…

  • Thank you for posting this! It is all so true! I work with someone who had RNY before I did and she is breaking all the rules. She has gained a good portion of her weight back and can't figure out why she feels bad all the time. I sit 5 feet away from her and hear about all the cakes, cookies, donuts, etc she is eating.…
  • I agree with the school of thought that carbonation causes bloating and discomfort. I choose not to drink it because there is absolutely no nutritional value and doesn't count towards fluid consumption.
  • I was back to work on day 11 post-op. Desk job but I also went out inspecting properties. When my surgeon found out I was climbing stairs as part of my job, he was thrilled! The weight melted off. My boss was happy to have me back so quickly. I would have gone crazy sitting at home. Don't know how to do that even on my…
  • Just for today 3/21, I will 1. Log my food 2. Drink at least 72 oz of water 3. Say no when I feel pressured by others
  • I work with a person who insists on bringing that kind of garbage into the office. Everyone here is trying to eat clean, and she gets offended if anyone resists. She and I have both had gastric bypass. I lost and am maintaining with healthy lifestyle changes and working out. She has gained back a good amount of her weight…
  • I have had some irrational mood swings since gastric bypass. I exploded on my boss one day. when he asked if I wanted to talk, I told him it was none of his business and I didn't want to talk. Just knowing I was fired, the next day that I worked, I humbly went to him to apologize. He leaned back in his chair and smiled.…
  • That's very interesting...funny, but an interesting point. I love to get dressed up and I have some control tops, but didn't give it a thought. I love my sweater dresses, too. Usually, I wear thigh-highs & a garter, but sometimes when it's cold, I do wear a heavier tight with the control top. Thanks for the valuable info…
  • What to feed your pouch is all trial and error. What works one time might be evil the next. I can eat cheese and I can handle those "flatout" flat breads, but I tried melting the cheese on a small flat bread in the toaster oven, took one bite and got the foamies. Tossed it all in the trash at work and held my head over my…
  • I agree with the other ladies. Is it imperative to order this soon? No one can guess what size you will be in 1 month, much less 9. To be safe, I would wait until 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding and be sure to ask many questions about any last minute alterations. I had gastric bypass July 2011 and in 9 months had dropped…
  • You are doing awesome! Single digit sizes are so much fun! Congrats!
  • You will be in those 16's in no time and amazed when they get baggy. I just purged my wardrobe again yesterday. All the size 8 jeans are gone and some of the 6's. I saved my white size 6's, but need to go shopping. I'm scared of trying on 4's. Afraid they won't fit and I'll be disappointed. Going to the thrift stores on…

  • My one regret in life was NOT telling someone I loved, how I felt. I moved away and left him behind. We had strong feelings for each other, but never acted on them or even admitted to having them because we were in other relationships and respected our commitments. Fast-forward around 25 yrs later, thanks to social…
  • Divorced for almost 17 yrs, in a monogamous relationship for little over 15 yrs. Let's just say it works...
  • Welcome! I had RNY 7/28/11 and so happy I did it! Wish I had done it sooner. Life is so much better when you're healthy, strong, and able to move.
  • Welcome! So happy you joined us!
  • Awesome NSV! I'm needing my rings re-sized. It's so funny that noticing the size of your wrist indicates weight loss when we all seem to focusing on waist, hips, and thighs. It's the little things that are so amazing! Congrats!
  • Just looked at your diary for today. Where is your protein? Are you not drinking protein shakes? That is the key to using your tool. Three things, Protein, Water, Exercise. But 20 lbs gone is 20 LBS GONE...great job and it will come off.
  • You are doing great. Get your protein in and make sure you stay hydrated. Your dedication to see this through will be beneficial to your overall health and healing after the surgery. Don't think of depriving yourself, consider this stepping out on the road of your new journey.
  • Welcome home, dear girl. You're among friends.
  • I thought I was the only one with this issue. I do my makeup, get dressed, look in the mirror and I think I look pretty good. Not bad for a 51 yr old woman. Then I try to take pics with my cell phone to send to my daughter in Germany, and I look old and horrible. I've lost over 100lbs and want to have professional pictures…
  • It does sound like the doctor is pushing you a bit and using scare tactics. Sounds more like a used car salesman than a concerned doctor. Research the different types of surgery. Many people have absolutely no complications and others have issues..and yes, people have died. Research your doctor and the hospital for…
  • It's wonderful that you are getting back on track. You can do it. First, get back to the basics..back to where you were right after your surgery. Do the 5 Day Pouch test...Google it for more info. You go back to liquids/soft foods and protein shakes. It helps clear your system and you may see several pounds lost. Remember…
  • I have an elliptical at home and we ARE NOT friends. I can't seem to make it more than 3-5 minutes. I don't even try it at the gym. I'll go straight for the treadmill or stationary bike. If anyone can do 65 minutes their 1st time out...I hang my head in shame and bow to your determination.
  • I had joined a Curves in my area several years ago. Their hours were wacky & they were closed before I could get off work. I called to get them to fax me a form to cancel my membership. They said they wouldn't fax me anything, that I had to come in to sign the forms. I asked if they would please stay open until I could get…

  • The beautiful white size 6 jeans I just bought last week for this summer season are too big and I kept pulling them up all day at work. I made an off-hand comment about my pants falling down and one of the guys said he wouldn't mind if that happened...lol...made me think maybe I am looking better. I've gone from 244lbs to…
  • Not so sure I need the shopping spree, just some basic classic items that will accentuate my new hot body. But I really want to have some very good professional photos taken on location. I'm not sure exactly where, the beach is so cliche' but I work on an island. I'm thinking of a historical location.
