I'm sorry if this qualifies as advertising. I don't work for Curves and am not trying to endorse them in any way.

I went for an initial meeting with them today. They have given me a free week.

After that I'll need to decide if i want to sign up.

Anyone care to share personal experiences?

I went for a while several year ago but the limited hours/days opened didn't fit into my schedule. Plus several Curves in my area have not remained opened very long. Lots of money spent if they close.

I go to curves now and love it. The limited hours are a problem, but it you can make it work, it is a WONDERFUL work out. I love the fact that it is a resistance work out, meaning the more you put in the more you get out. It is the perfect work out for me, because I know I an working out all of the core muscles as hard as I can for as long as I really need. It is great!

I think its wonderful for beginners. If your already in shape or are used to cardio you may not get the workout your looking for. Everyone is different, I think your smart to try the pass 1st. You may love it, if you do, then by all means GO!!! I myself am an outdoors workout person. Give me a hill or sand dune and I'll climb it:)

I use Curves 3 - 4 times a week, Curves Smart actually. For 7 months, I was dedicated to my 30 minute workout 5 times a week. A total loss in that time of 48 lbs. I took 2 months off, joined a cheaper gym (change of work hours made it difficult to go to Curves) & gained back some weight. Needless to say, the cheaper gym did not offer me any type of structured workout and was not working for me. I have RAN back to Curves. Now the weight is falling back off.
The Curves Smart workout program has really made me work harder at bettering myself. I would totally recommend Curves to anyone who is able to workout during the limited hours that they are opened. It has made my weight loss journey so much easier.
Best of luck with your free week trial. That first week is really what sold me. Everyone was so helpful with getting me used to the machines and music. I really hope you like it as much as I!

I had joined a Curves in my area several years ago. Their hours were wacky & they were closed before I could get off work. I called to get them to fax me a form to cancel my membership. They said they wouldn't fax me anything, that I had to come in to sign the forms. I asked if they would please stay open until I could get there, about 15 minutes after their normal closing time. The manager was rude and refused to help. So I called my bank and cancelled the automatic draft from my account. THEY CALLED ME! I told them they would have to fax me something if they wanted to keep me as a customer or we could just agree to end the business relationship. The manager told me to keep my f-ing money and to f-off...I'm very happy with my current gym :)

I gave curves a full chance for two months. My positives were: the enviornment was friendly, the workout was quick, and the machines were easy to use. My negatives: The membership is $35, curves will tell you that is compatiable with other fitness centers. However, that is not true. Other fitness centers have showers, lockers, cardio and weight equipment( weights and hydraulics are different). Curves doesn't have any of that. Hence, the price shouldn't be so expensive. The hours are not convient and most curves are not open on the weekend. The owner of the curves I went to, actually told me unless you have the smart card your workout will have little benefit. The smart card is an additional $25 with membership. When I worked out with the owner in the building, she was very observant. When she left in the aftenoons and her assistants were in; they were not alert. They talked on the phone and with each other constantly. My largest issue with curves is, they only offer resistant training. There is a pad you walk on, while you wait for your next rotation. But, that is not real cardio training. Also, I made friends with ladies there. When I asked them what results they have seen in their health, most said they saw some inches go away, but not much weight. Some of those women have had been with curves for more than five years. In essence, you will pay at least $30 for no cardio, no showers, no lockers, and no assistance. Also, they offer a weigh loss meal plan at a rate of $90.00 every few months. After working out for 2 months at curves, 4 days a week the smart machine showed I was " improving in strenght". At my new gym, I was barely able to do 15 min on the eliptical. As my recommendation; don't waster your money.
