  • Lowering my A1C to under 6.0. Lower blood sugar readings and feeling great!!!
  • The only thing that raises blood sugar is carbs. Do not be fooled into thinking that carbs do not matter. If you eat a meal with no carbs, your post meal blood sugar will not go up based on that meal. You eat one with carbs, your blood sugar will go up even without diabetes. Please be very careful with any diet that says…
  • First, be very proud of your achievements. Second, you can achieve under 5% A1c values, so do not give up. Third, there is a book and website which explains how to balance carbs/fat/protein for diabetics. It is called www.bloodsugar101.com. One thing that I was not understanding before reading this book was that net carbs…
  • I am not a huge fan of meat either, but as a diabetic, I eat low carb/keto to control my blood sugar. It works really well, but knowing how much protein and fat you need to make sure you stay healthy is tough. This website has a calculator to help you balance your reduced carbs with enough protein to prevent muscle loss. I…
  • Please go to https://www.bloodsugar101.com/. It clearly explains the relationship between carbs and Blood Sugar. (214 sounds high to me, but I am not a doctor.) There is a book as well, called 'Blood Sugar 101' by Jenny Ruhl, which I have found very helpful. The website has a carb calculator to help you determine what you…
  • I am a diabetic as well and based on your job, I suggest you look at low carb diets. I am not talking 8 carbs a day, but definitely research how many carbs at a time make your blood sugar go up. For a good book for learning how diet affects your blood sugar, I recommend Blood Sugar 101 or just check out Jenny Ryhl's…

  • Hello Darlel, It has a month. How is it going?
  • Spaghetti squash. I poke it 3- 4 time with a fork and microwave it for 10 minutes. I cut it open, take out seeds put some chopped or canned tomatoes on it seasoned with herbs or Italian seasoning and sprinkle with grated Parmesan or mozzarella. Pop under broiler on low until tomatoes are hot and cheese melts. Scrap squash…
  • @jesselee10jesselee10 If getting the test done motivates you and you can afford it, then go for it and have fun with it. This is journey and if this makes you take a different view of weight loss, and you are not expecting miracles to replace consistency and tenacity, then that is okay. You obliviously have doubts or would…
  • If you take an antacid, try cutting back or stopping it. It could be you are turning off the acid needed for digestion.
  • Since you have talked to your GP, I would assume low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) was ruled out, so it could be a false low blood sugar (false hypo) reaction. It can happen if you dramatically change your carb level. Your body is pretty smart and it reacts very quickly to changes in what it perceives as "a normal meal". Even…

  • When you get too much excess protein, it converts to Glucose to be stored as fat, when you eat to much fat, you increase insulin resistance. When you eat too little protein your body burns muscle including heart muscle. It is a balancing act. http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/ and specifically the link to…
  • Way to go. Look for how you are succeeding and not for reasons your success is not good enough. Remember every time you feel like progress is to slow, that Sept. 26th, 2017 @ 489 is the highest weight you are ever going to be for the whole rest of your life as long as you decide to not give up. FYI - You can "be able to…
  • I am reading Blood Sugar 101 which is a very comprehensive look at the research around T2D and how the results have been interpreted. The research seems to point to Vegan diets not significantly being able to lower blood sugar to levels to help prevent complications. I might be worth checking out the book and looking at…
  • True. I spend a ton of time looking up food, recording food, making substitutions in recipes, finding specific foods in stores, making sure food is available where I am going to be (work, home, in cooler on trips, hotel rooms, etc). Preparing to eat takes up way more time than cooking and eating. Up's up with that! ;-)
  • I would like to start with, I am impressed that you are taking a hard look at your practices and are making changes to stay healthy. I big part of what your Mom is seeing is the fact that you are losing more weight to " to prove to myself I can". That is not a sustainable reason and what will happen when you get to that…
  • If he has been under a doctor's care, ask the doctor those questions. Also, before beginning any exercise plan, even a very moderate one, a doctor should be consulted. He is more likely to have success, if he is the one getting the information, but I think it is great that you are helping him get started.

  • Awesome - I like the way you are tackling a challenge instead of coming up with excuses for not doing a 5k.
  • Setting a goal to run 2 miles a day in June for a total of 60 miles:
  • I agree - exercise when ever you will do it. I rarely exercise before 10 pm. I used to plan to get up before work, but that is jut not who I am.
  • You are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • When I started, I set a goal weight used MFP to set the calorie limits based on 1 pound per week and had one rule only. Enter everything in the Diary;if you put it in your mouth record it (water too) and if you move, record it in the exercise. Then look to see where you hit your limits and goals. I found I automatically…
