  • It's so busy this time of year! I need to remind myself that no one cares what I eat at a party. I watched a (slim) friend last night choosing carefully from a platter of food at a reception, saying she has to watch her calories as she's gotten older. Good reminder!
  • kathskelly53, Nova Scotia is a great place to visit. Funny, I spent three weeks in the UK and Ireland last summer! I've tried to get back on track several times, but just like to eat and drink too much. Add in elder care issues, a new grandson too far away, and a daughter with some hard decisions to make soon, and I find…
  • Good morning! I'm struggling to get back to logging and weighing in even though I know that's what I need to do. We've just finished a renovation and have just about got everything in place, so now would be a good time. I like your emotional eating ideas, Sunnyme333. This week, I'm going to be able to get back into some…
  • I can't answer your question specifically, but you can always set to 1200 and eat a little less. 1200 isn't very much, though.
  • Hello all. I'm a grandmother, and have been on MFP for over five years. One of those grandchildren is a whirling dervish and I need to keep up! I lost quite a bit over the first two years, kept it off for quite a while, but over the last couple of years have put some back on, so I'm here looking for support and motivation…
  • Someone else mentioned Skinnytaste, which is where this idea came from: Cook the squash (we much prefer it microwaved and a bit crunchy) and mix it with a bit of shredded cheese of your choice and leftover chili, then bake it in the shells topped with a bit more cheese. We just had this a couple of days ago made with our…
  • I buy whatever is on sale, and mix in 1/3 cup of quick cooking oats, and whatever seasonings we feel like. A favourite is chipotle sauce. I bake them for 15 minutes and finish them on the grill. It keeps them from falling apart. Smoked gruyere is a nice cheese to have with them.
  • My current doctor once said that I could stand to lose a few pounds, and is very pleased that I have and has said so. On the other hand a previous doctor chalked up everything, and I mean everything to being overweight, including what turned out to be a genetic condition. I guess you just have to find the right physician!
  • You can layer it with tomato sauce and greens and bake it (like lasagna). It kind of depends how much you like it, but you can use it in place of something like rice, topped with anything.
  • Hello everyone. I've been on MFP for a long time, but after losing 40 lb I stalled. I haven't regained a lot (not weighing for a few days after being away for 6 weeks) but I'm determined to get off another 20-30. I find the news feed very helpful and think having some new and active MFP friend would be helpful, so I'm…
  • Everyone is different. Do what you find suits you. I need to weigh in every day to keep myself honest, but if you choose to weigh in daily you must be aware of fluctuations in your weight and look for a downward (I'm assuming that's the goal) trend, not daily losses. Others find daily weigh ins stressful and only weigh…
  • They're probably just trying to include you, so simply tell them it's important to stick to your plan right now; however, if you prefer to simply say no, you really don't owe anyone an explanation. Besides, it's expensive to eat out every day. Maybe you could go, say, once a week, and choose the best menu option, just to…
  • Thank you! My brother in law made Tom Yum at Christmas time and it was delicious, but I didn't get the recipe. This looks really, really good!
  • This looks EXACTLY like the list I have now that I'm back from a week away. I have to say, I'm really trying to get down it without resorting to the method in Snoozie's second post. Oh...cleaning the house is not on that list!
  • I have mine set to 40/30/30 as well, and usually come in around that. I don't think it matters much unless you have particular health reasons or triggers to use certain percentages. I stay away from breads and have cut back on pasta a lot, I'm not a big fruit eater, preferring vegetables, in fact should probably have more…
  • What a lovely, positive attitude in all of these posts! I've been on MFP coming up three years, and while I'm not at goal (too much "fruit" doesn't help), I haven't regained any of the 40+ I've lost over that time. I'm much more active and I found an awesome trainer in my community who does small group strength training…
  • OP, like a lot of others on the thread, I know that if I have a cookie, I just want another cookie (or 10), but if I eat an apple or orange, I'm quite satisfied. Similarly, I really like to have some wine, but it tends to have the same effect. I just crave more. So, regardless of the "sugar is sugar" arguments, I agree…
  • For me, it's your #3 and #4. I started on MFP almost three years ago, and have not lost the last 20lb yet; however, I have not gained back any of the 40+ I lost in the first year and a bit, either. I've disposed of all clothes that are too big and therefore cannot afford to gain! I've also focussed on more and different…
  • Wow! Thank you for posting. You should be so, so, so proud of yourself!! Continued good health!
  • I think you've had very good advice here. I'd like to add two things: If you can, keep walking. It's very good for your overall health. The other thing is to take some time to search through the success stories on the forum here. You will find all kinds of inspiration! Just know that it is possible to lose weight and feel…
  • As others have said, you almost have to cook your own food in order to keep sodium levels down. I've managed to stay off everything except half a water pill by losing weight, watching sodium, and exercising. Walking is excellent. As far as food is concerned, watch sauces and condiments, and look for low sodium versions of…
  • Nice to see you back. I've been in California on a driving and hiking holiday and haven't been online much either. Now I'm back in Canada and trying to get back into logging and regular at home exercise. It's going to take a few days. Good for you for getting on the scales. I haven't had the courage yet. We did do about…
  • I'm mostly packed, but have yet to see if the suitcase closes easily. Two pairs of hiking shoes take up a lot of room! DJ, good to hear you are getting yourself back where you want to be. I'll be looking for some help when we get back. I went to the doctor yesterday and my cholesterol is back up. I didn't go in for the…
  • Thanks, DJ. I've been to San Francisco before but DH hasn't and I'm looking forward to the coast and Yosemite. As of this morning, the forums look different again, but it was much easier to find things. I guess it's a process.
  • You two are both in early! I had a little trouble finding my way through the new forums. Now that I found the group I think it'll show up in my recent stuff. Jan, enjoy your weekend. Sometimes it's nice to have the house to yourself. Yesterday I made a huge pot of butternut squash soup and froze most of it. I keep checking…
  • Good Monday morning, everyone. No golf today, as it's a bit wet and quite cool, and my dentist's office called to ask me to please change my app't to this afternoon. Jan, I hope you can keep your cool, and your standards with your students. I've been retired from teaching what I believe you'd call middle school for a few…
  • Hello everyone. Well, it doesn't look like the weather will hold for another game of golf this week. I guess fall is here! I will get out again, just not tomorrow. I'm definitely a fair weather golfer. That's okay, though, as I will meet my friend and we will have lunch instead and then I can get away to visit my Mom…
  • Just finished Ken Follett's "Winter of the World", the second in his latest trilogy. The first is "Fall of Giants", and the third, "The Edge of Eternity" was just published. Long, but very engaging.
  • It is quiet isn't it! We are having a last wonderful blast of summer here. Today I played (and walked) 18 holes of golf and this evening we had our ladies league banquet. We are hoping we will get a few more games in before the weather closes us down. I did better with logging last week, but had some challenges over the…
  • There are calculators on shapesense.com that always come out very close to my HRM. I found them through a thread on MFP a while back and really like them, finding both the machines and the database here to be quite high. I enter the details and then take that number to a net burn calculator on the same site.
