Spend lots of time in the weight room of your gym lifting heavy things and putting them back down again while you dial in your diet to get rid of excess body fat.

I've actually used my Garmin 920XT set to strength mode with the HRM Run chest strap to record time and heart rate while lifting -- but the amounts allowed by MFP come up in the same general range as well so I use whichever at the time.

I went from SAD, to flexitarian, to vegan, and now am going 360 back the other way -- I started having stomach/intestinal issues with just plants that have quickly resolved now with a high fat and ultra low carb diet.

I see it as a time to get more done at the gym or do a long run, and also to allow for some time just to relax and read with a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, having a wife means that she plans projects around the house and taking her to different places.

Total fitness would involve a lot of core strength, with the ability to do things such as run or cycle -- I once heard a coach say that a person with just basic fitness should be able to run 3 miles without a problem -- and unfortunately most average people can't even get off the couch and run 1 mile.

I bought a light weight Nathan running vest that holds 2 bottles in deep pockets on its front -- I will be using it for half training to start in a few weeks -- I couldn't stand having the bladder of water sloshing on my back.

Check out programs like StrongLifts 5x5 or Starting Strength -- they are both great programs with lots of available resources to help you along.

While you can't spot reduce fat from any one area, you can reduce overall body fat percentages and you can work muscle groups to tighten up loose flabby areas -- try getting into the weight room and doing squats and deadlifts -- over time you will see changes in your body.
