  • Des Moines, IA, just south of Ames, IA, where the #8 ranked Iowa State Cyclones call home. Go State! Woot!
  • I'd open mine up but I don't know how to do it...if you can give me instructions, I'd be glad to open it up! I had a nutrition coach for an 8 week session, but that's over now and I'd like to get feedback and new ideas from others as well as share some things I've learned.
  • Keep up the good work!
  • Initially, my husband didn't participate in my efforts to get healthy. He is 6'2" and weighs about 160. He has been wearing the same size pants for the entire 15 years we've been married. He eats whatever he wants and doesn't gain an ounce. When he started to see my results with increased strength and activity, then I…
  • I went for a 3-hour bike ride with my husband today. He was ready to crap out after 2 hours, but I could have gone for 3 more! He's tall and thin and doesn't worry about his weight or work out (he thinks yard work is enough). I must admit, I smirked a little when he was complaining about how tired his legs were when I felt…
  • I worked with a nutrition coach for about 8 weeks when I hit a plateau and couldn't get past it. She suggested that I try to eat very little processed food for about 5 days--just fruits, vegetables, grilled or baked meat. I tried it and it worked. Give it a try and see if it helps you over the hump.
  • My goal is to lose another 20-25 lbs by the end of the year. I've lost 30 so far.
  • Welcome! This is a great group that is super supportive! Feel free to add me as a friend.
  • Cute new shoes are helpful, too.
  • Love the profile picture of the dogs!
  • Good afternoon from Des Moines, IA. FYI: That's Iowa, not Idaho or Ohio.
  • Hi Elise...I've lost 25 lbs. and have hit a plateau so I understand your frustration. Not sure if this will help, but my health coach told me to watch what I'm eating as snacks and to swear off processed foods for 2 weeks to get over the hump. I'm trying that right now. Feel free to add me as a friend!

  • . Um, I don't have any kids and am trying to get rid of the baby fat!
  • This is a HUGE help. Thanks. :)
  • The juice idea is great! My nutrition coach is really keeping my nose to the grindstone on carbs, and I'm still learning what good carbs & bad carbs are. Could you suggest any web sites, books, etc., that would help? I've pretty much figured out that Doritos are bad carbs, but they are still my favorite. :ohwell:
  • I hate it, too! I bought a stationary bike to help me get started. You can ride it at home, listen to your iPod, sing as loud as you want, sweat a lot and not have to worry about the stick figure next to you at the gym who has perfect hair and doesn't sweat.
  • My nutrition coach gives me one free day per week. The first free day, I ate everything I could get my hands on--Doritos, macaroni & cheese, chicken fried rice. Since then, I feel better by splurging on dinner instead of splurging all day. I am a firm believer that if you deny yourself something you like, you'll binge on…
  • Hi, I'm Suzanne. I am a writer who owns a small business. I taught English at a Big 12 university for 16 years where I stood and/or ran around campus a lot. Teaching burned me out so I decided to sit down for a while. My clothing size increased 4 sizes while I was sitting. So now I'm working on getting rid of the excess…
  • So you had swelling for a few years AFTER the hysterectomy?! Holy crap. That reallly concerns me.
  • I'm not sure if I am but something's going on. Usually about 9:30 a.m. when I'm sitting at my desk I start sweating like crazy for about 10 minutes. I turn on the fan and that takes care of it. This has happened a couple of times a week since January. No other symptoms, though. My doctor did mention that I should consider…
  • I sent you a friend request, too! I'm pretty new to this group and am looking for friends. That sounds bad. I mean, I have friends, but...you know what I mean.
  • Hi! While I don't have any kids, I am exactly the same height as you and started my journey at 198 lbs. So far, I've lost 25 lbs. If I can do it, you can too! Feel free to add me as a friend. BTW, I was a band nerd in elementary, junior high, high school, and college. In fact, I still play in a community concert band. YEAH…
  • I use Mio also! Fruit punch is tasty.
  • OMG isn't it an eye opener?! Sometimes it makes me squint..."Did I REALLY just eat that?" :frown:
  • I'm new, too! My name is Suzanne and I live in Iowa. My husband and I don't have any two-legged children, but we do have 2 four-legged children (dogs). About 8 years ago, I had a miserable job where I reported to a miserable VP. I dealt with it by many trips to the vending machine. Coke and Snickers were my drugs of…
  • I hear you. I don't remember the last time I wore short sleeves.
  • A really expensive suit in a size 8 or 10.
