  • Congrats on working towards your goal! Lots of good advice on here, but I would add the following: You will not do this perfectly. Whatever steps you outline for yourself, you will mess up, and there will be bad days along with good ones. Don't kick yourself too hard though - just get up and keep going, and you'll get…
  • Find something to replace it with. I lug around my own seltzer water to family events - they laugh at me but it keeps me out of the soda. :)
  • It's a great time of year to get support from your friends - "Hey, I've been trying to get healthy this year. Now that the holidays are over I want to get back on track. I am hoping that you can support me on this because I am really excited!! Let's hang out this week - how about we do X (and insert an activity that you…
  • What is all of the complaining about how bonuses are "taxed"? Bonuses = income, so sorry guys, in almost every situation they are taxable. Be glad your employer is doing you a favor and putting it on the W2 so you don't have to deal with the mess of extra taxes later.
  • When you start an intense workout routine, your weight can fluxuate quite a bit. With Insanity, I would see gain, steady, steady, big loss, gain, steady, loss, etc. So don't sweat the scale and just stick with it and do what you can! Good luck.
  • Not true, you can lose inches and gain muscle doing HIIT, yoga, etc. My advice would be to try it for a while, and see if you are getting what you want out of it. If not, switch it up. If it feels like you are getting a good cardio workout, and the muscles are sore in the places you want them to be sore, then keep at it.…
  • I feel like there is going to be some judgement a'foot here...
  • Weight loss is not linear - especially with weight training, you will see gains sometimes as your body adjusts, and then you might see a bunch of weight come off, and then gain a bit back, etc. You have to give it time - at least a week or two. Aim for long term trends, not a day at a time because it will drive you crazy.
  • My biggest complaint about my neighborhood is that you can't walk anywhere. I would love to be able to walk to the store, out to dinner, etc. There is nice walking paths, but they don't go anywhere, which is fine if you go out for walks regularly, but I want to incorporate exercise into daily life as much as possible, and…
  • I can second this. In terms of results, I saw a ton of endurance/strength increases (measured by the fit tests), moderate physical measurement/toning improvement (measured by pictures) and minimal weight loss for most of the program. But I looked and felt pretty freaking fantastic after it was done. :)
  • I've done the insanity workouts both with and without shoes - for me I found that it was easier with shoes b/c there is so much jumping and I tend to slip on my floor without shoes. But its just one of those things that is going to depend on the person.
  • My advice would be to focus on one thing at a time. Your dialogue sounds like you want to change everything, all at once. Your brain only had so much capacity to change, and it sounds like you are overwhelming yourself. Try picking one thing (a healthy breakfast, for example) and try to do that for a few days until it…
  • Talk to whoever you might want to do your alterations and get their opinion. They can also help you with knowing what kind of styles may be more/less easily altered.
  • talk to people, and position yourself away from the food. make conversation the goal, not just the yummy treats.
  • It's hard to sustain motivation over the long term. I struggle from this too. What I've found that helps is 1. making lifestyle changes, not 'dieting', and 2. taking a weight loss break every few months and telling myself that it is ok to be this weight for a while. Otherwise I get burned out. Clearly everyone will have…
  • For me, Insanity improved my fitness a ton and toned up my body. I didn't lose a ton of weight but that's because I like to eat and I think their eating plan is insane. I'm clearly in better shape though and have considered doing another round next year. Bottom line - it's probably not going to burn 1000 calories unless…
  • People will recommend a million different things for you - but it sounds like right now the most important thing is to start doing something and stick with it. I liked Insanity because it has a schedule, it motivates you to work out hard. I didn't lose a lot of weight on insanity, but my endurance and muscle tone improved…
  • X, after I specifically told him "even though you think I will like it, please do not get me X".
  • I love running in the rain, as long as it is not icy/slippery.
  • There are a lot of youtube videos out there that you can do for free. Don't worry if you have to modify exercises or can't do everything while you are working out. The most important thing is to do something, and keep doing it!
  • I would eat something 100-200 calories that has protein and fiber, e.g. apple & peanut butter, or carrots & greek yogurt dip. My modus operandi is that its better to be a bit over your target (and remember, its a target, not a hard line in the sand) calories and feel good about myself than to starve myself and be miserable…
  • i always wanted to be taller b/c i played basketball. but this was always tempered with feeling like an awkward giant around my friends who were shorter, so perhaps its good that i wasn't taller.
  • - chips & dip (although i have been successful in transitioning this to carrots & greek yogurt dip, hooray!) - chocolate - if its there, i will eat it - anything with Tabasco on it
  • He can be 'loving' towards you and still be a selfish uncompromiser. Seems like everything is on his terms, so you need to decide if you are ok with how he is, because it sounds like he isn't going to change.
  • From what I've seen with people who work together, they seem incapable of talking about anything other than work. I wouldn't want to - I like the people I work with and I like my SO, and I think in order to keep on liking both of them there needs to be some separation. :)
  • Thank you everyone (well, except one - you know who you are) for the suggestions. I love the image with the explanations of the different types of food too. Looking forward to an interesting evening - will report back!
  • Anybody have serious suggestions? I need advice here!
  • It's a great program - love the cardio intervals/bodyweight combination. Beware though it is tough - you will not be able to do everything at first (and maybe not even at the end!) but as you'll see even the people on TV need to take breaks, so be honest with yourself and do what you can - you'll be amazed at how quick…
  • Suggestion - find something to motivate you to run faster. For example, like a lot of people, I hate doing intervals, so I got the "Zombies, run" app, which periodically has zombies chasing you and if you don't run fast enough they steal all your stuff & try to kill you. This helps motivate me through intervals, esp when…
