I second this, doing stroke drills and breathing drills will help build lung capacity. Learning proper stroke technique goes a LONG way to help you regulate your breathing when you are swimming. Most novice swimmers will breathe every stroke or every other stroke, therein lies their problem. Your body goes into a hypoxic…

I wear inov-8 f-lite 230 and f-lite 195's for the majority of my WOD's. The difference in the numbers is the heel height. If you look at the back of the inov-8 they have arrows right above the heel, 3 arrows: 9mm heel, 2 arrows 6mm heel, 1 arrow 3mm heel, 0 arrows 0 heel. I like the 230's for WOD's that involve high…

I have been doing some form of crossfit/oly lifting/powerlifting for the past 5 years. It has helped me lose and keep off 140#... I am super strong and the community aspect of it is great. Like some of the other poster's mentioned, you can do it on your own but make sure you get training in the movements before you attempt…

I have an FT7, I wore mine all day (12 hours) when I was doing nothing but sitting on the couch and doing algebra homework and it gave me a little over half my BMR in calories burned. I don't know about wearing it 24/7 but the whole day cal burn was pretty close to what I "should" be burning.

ktbia I am glad you are getting into this and good luck on your half marathon! SL is a great beginner's program and Mark Rippetoe's books are a great place to start for form. Also he has alot of videos and will personally respond with form critiques when you post them on his website forum...free coaching from one of the…

Ok so I ran through my numbers and this is what i came up with, I just want to make sure I have the concept down correctly. Female Age 28 HT- 68" WT 190 Mod exercise (sedentary job, work out 5 days a week, oly/powerlifting, crossfit type workouts) BMR= 1663 RMR= 1646 x 1.55 (mod)= 2550 TDEE= 2550 So on non-workout days I…

I have the FT7 it really helps me log accurate calories when I am weight training, I wear it once or twice a week all day to stay mindful of what I am burning through out the day (have a very sedentary job). It was easy to set up and it's easy to use.

I wear chalk more than lipstick :) Wrist wraps for anything above 135ish overhead...no belt, no gloves, no straps. I am looking into knee sleeves... just havn't made the commitment and I don't have any knee issues at the moment.

So if I am reading this correctly, do you have a dedicated Oly coach at your facility? I wod at CF SolaFide in Clarksville but I am looking for some instruction on Oly lifts...can I get some more info from you?

P.S. for those of you that said you havnt seen a CF gym cost less than 100$ a month, the first one I belonged to cost 60$ a month unlimited and the one I belong to now costs 75$ a month for 5x per week. If you live in an area with multiple gyms they might offer more competitive rates and I know alot of the CF gyms have…

I don't have time to argue with people who have never tried CF for themselves, never experienced the community and take what the NY Times says as gospel (cause we all know they are the pinnacle of responsible journalism (blech)). What I will say is that I have done CF at a number of different gyms for the past 4 years. I…

"Go Hard. - You'll Pass Out Before You Die." I like that one :) My favorites always seem to come from Rip "Sure you can wear gloves, as long as they match your purse" "Strong people are harder to kill, and more useful in general"

Alot of people signed up for the open at my box...I was a little less than excited about having to pay 20$ for the open... I mean CF has been built on it's "free elite fitness for everyone" methodology for years...here comes Reebok and messes it up for everyone. I mean I understand the prize money has to come from…

I carry a jump rope in my purse :) Whenever I am stopped somewhere...even punping gas.... I pull it out and get a few minutes of speed roping in.... you get some weird looks but whatever. Not like you are ever going to see those people again anyway. I also jump rope during breaks at work ( I work at an elementary school so…

Definetly learn proper techniqie for rowing, I cringe when I see people hop on the C2 at the gym and start going crazy thinking they are getting anything done...concept2 has great videos of how to row efficiently and so you don't injure yourself.

I'm not sure you should jump into crossfitmom if you havnt been exposed to crossfit methodology/movements prior to your pregnancy...I have known several women at my gym (CF gym) that have followed the programing during pregnancy and have had great results post partum as far as getting back into shape quickly. However they…

The best part about mud runs is people of ALL shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels show up for them. Some are serious athletes, others are just there for the beer and the afterparty. It's a great time and if you go into it with the mindset of just enjoying the atmosphere, the people and of course the MUD! My once piece…

I've tried this, made me feel a little jittery... I switched to Optimum Nutrition's Amino Energy which I stack with Beta Alanine (also ON) and it makes for a great little jolt pre-workout. I drink Amino's in the AM for a little pick me up (don't like coffee) and have noticed a difference in post workout recovery. If you…

Welcome James, First, congrats on the weight loss thus far! Second, glad you are looking into Crossfit to help you with your fitness level. Best thing to do when you are first getting started is look for a local affiliate and see if they offer an on-ramp or intro class to help you learn the movements that are used…

Sweat? at the gym? OMG how dare he!!! :noway: If it's that serious I would bring my own towel and wipe it down before I used it...or just not use a machine at all...barbells are so much easier to clean :) (no pun intended)
