So before I purchase one how do they work? I have watched the trailers and understand the concept, but besides on screen instructions and a bike in a trainer, how do you push your self in a climb, etc. Just increase the resistance and crank? Can someone give me a little better understanding before I purchase?

Concur with CALake. Brick are good. Consider doing two-a-days. Do a longer swim in the morning, and then a run or bike in the evening. Mix it up. or try a swim, then a spin class and then run. As you begin to notice improvements increase your workout about 10% each week. And then just go do it. They sound intimidating but…

Have not done one yet - Signed up for 5 MAY in Colorado. If you sign up on the Spartan Race website you can get daily workouts for the race. They are pretty intense but I guess the race is as well. FYI - today's is an easy one - pick a number (3-6) and for one hour do that number of push ups evey minute. Seems easy. I…

On Day 37 of my first round of P90X. While I am not following the nutrion plan I am using this site to help cut some pounds prior to doing some races/events this year. I do have plenty of physical training experience from 20+ years in the Army. I have my wife doing P90X with me and while she is not in the same shape as I…

Your speed and distances will probably be REALLY off. A bike computer is setup for a certain size wheel so unless your jogger has 700 or 26" wheels it wont be accurate. There are a bunch of free apps. Mapmyrun should work off of GPS/3G, as well as Strava and endomondo. All free using gps/3G system.

Not sure if anyone else will see this so far in the thread. First races do not invest too much into except training. Once you realize that they are awesome then start to purchase kit. A couple of things I found helped me. 1. Chamois butter. You can find this at local bike shops. It is a lube that goes on the area where you…

Not seeing the complaints about cardio either. My point is this - balance is key. HOwever, if you only want to do cardio that's fine - strength training will benefit your cardio as well. IF you are only doing strength training you may want to consider cardio to help move blood through the body to the muscles you are…

Trijoe and Jacksonpt are right on, you can find a USED trainer (I have a cycleops wind trainer - noisy) on craigslist as well. Look around. Additionally continue to attend spin classes - they work you out differently which also helps. BUt get out on the road is always the best. Look into a couple of additional products as…

First - I concur with everyone that you should take the rest day. A couple of reason why - prevent injury, let the muscles recover from the stress. Couple of other issues that I did not see but are also factors. 1. Some of the soreness (depending on your effort level) is due to lactic acid and other toxins that build up in…
