I have never heard of a difference between women and men. I think 1g/lb of bodyweight is a good amount to shoot for in a healthy woman that lifts.

interesting.

I didn't take it as a disagreement but rather as an enhancement.

I personally believe that you can workout too much but in most cases, your body will adapt to the extra workload. Just look at people who do Cirque du Soleil every day sometimes twice a day. Your body gets used to it. I do believe that one does need to fuel their workouts appropriately. It sounds like you have changed your…

My thoughts are that if you are a relative beginner and not lifting anywhere near your genetic potential, you are fine doing three full-body workouts every week. I don't think you need to start splitting out body parts until you are lifting with so much volume that your body can't recover by the next workout. I also…

Here is my feedback from three weeks of Leangains 16/8: Trying hard to gain weight and have succeeded in putting on an extra 9 pounds. About half fat and half muscle. On the positive side: My neck is bigger (1/2 inch), my hips and thighs are bigger (1.5 and 1 inch). My lifting is very strong and I am not close to…

So if you are getting the right amount for calories (my personal goal is to gain LBM with minimal bodyfat), and getting more than 1 gram per pound of protein, do you think it matters for body composition whether the other calories come from fat or carbs? Most of what I read says to take 1g per pound protein, about 20-30%…

I am one week into Leangains. I love that I have a lot of energy in the morning and not spending a lot of time cooking, eating ,and feeling full. My goal is to gain weight and I have been doing that by adding whole milk to my diet. I am up 5 lbs as of this morning and 3 of those pounds are from muscle. I believe that on…

If you are strictly talking about a post workout meal, many of the books I have read on the subject think that meal should be only protein and simple carbs with no fat. Especially if that workout was intense. A good rule of thumb for that meal is to take your bodyweight in kg. Eat that many grams of carbs and half that…

There are some good sites that help you with your diet to lose fat and retain muscle. Tom Venuto is one expert. I recommend that you read his blog and possibly buy one of his books. I personally lost 40 lbs of fat and muscle between sept 2010 and Jan 2011. Then I got Tom's book, followed it, and lost 6% bodyfat while…

This is outstanding information. Thank you Chris

No matter what, it's probably time to do something different. Either more cardio, less food, or start lifting weights. I have read studies showing that most people underestimate their calories. Your diary is private but I think that's the first place you should look. Weigh and record every morsel of food that gets past…

I eat 5-6 meals and 3-4k calories per day. I need to eat that much just to maintain my weight while trying to make modest lean gains. I have dropped about 50 lbs of fat and only about 2-3 lbs of muscle that way. There are many advocates for Intermittent Fastng. You will find all the information you need to research it at…

I agree with with Chrisdavey and Psulemon about body re-composition. I think your scale weight should be of secondary importance to bodyfat. A big part of losing bodyfat is lifting weights . There's a great e-book called "Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle" that outlines everything you need to do. (goal setting, diet, cardio,…

I did a second round of p90x and then did p90x plus. Now I do martial arts for most of my cardio and old-fashioned weightlifting for the rest. Maybe I will come back to Tony H one day but for now I am happy with my routine.

Most books and articles I read say that casein is slower absorbing than whey. They recommend whey post workout and casein before bed so your muscles can have protein all night. The protein in cottag cheese is mostly casein I think which us why bodybuilders eat cottage cheese befor bed or sometimes in he middl of the night.

i don't do cheat days. I do cheat meals but i always keep within 10% of my daily calorie goal. Out of 35-42 meals a week, i "cheat" on 3-5.

I think there's not any difference between refined sugars and natural sugars from the body's perspective. They get broken down the same way and cause the same insulin response. The main overall difference between an apple and sweet tarts is the fiber and vitamins in an apple. The sugar is pretty much the same. My opinion…

As you lose weight, you have to lower your calorie goals because as you get lighter, your BMR goes down. Very common problems that cause people to stop losing weight are 1) overestimating workout calories and 2) underestimating calories consumed.

I agree with hewhoiscd. I would like to add a few things. 1) looks like your protein goal is set at 40% but you are undershooting it. Hitting it might help. 2) you look like you are already pretty lean. You might want to change your goal from weight loss to fat loss with muscle retention. Sometimes when the goal is weight…

I was recently shopping for elliptical and fell in love with the really high end cybex arc trainer. I really liked the workout and you will notice that the arms go at the same direction as the feet which is opposite of ellipticals. I like the arc motion because your knee always stays behind your foot. If price is an…

Is 1210 your net calories or is that what you actually eat? If it's your net calories, it doesn't sound too low but it's close to too low. I used a calorie calculator and put in what I know about you and it gives an estimated BMR of 1746. If you add in 500 calories per day of exercise and 500 for normal daily living, you…
