  • On Tumblr I suggest looking for the tags "fitblr" , "fitspiration", and possibly "fitspo" without the quotes. There's also: run, running, runblr. It's kind of a Tumblr thing to put BLR at the end of a word to denote a particular category or the general way that a particular blog leans. Mine's http://StepnSteph.tumblr.com/
  • Yeah it needs help. One possible way to do that, if you're not a vegan, is to put strips of chicken in with it. I'll cut rotisserie chicken into strips and then cook it in with the quinoa. It's tasty IMO and it keeps the over all costs down, too.
  • It's not so much that it's "high" in protein, it's that it's a complete protein. Coincidentally it can be said to be "high in protein" for a plant. Here: http://www.builtlean.com/2012/10/03/complete-vs-incomplete-protein-sources/ That's worth reading. Quinoa is a boon for anyone who is vegan, or any athlete who focuses on…
  • Lots of good stuff in this thread. Style: Genbu-Kai Duration: About 2 1/2 years We had a TKD guy in our karate class last fall. He had been training for about 13 years. Prior to that, in I think 2009, I took part in a Taekwondo dance / demonstration (which was very limited exposure to TKD, but still lots of fun). Sparring…
  • Congrats on keeping with it. :-) I got injured early on and stopped doing the Insanity workouts, but continued with other forms of exercise (down a total of 10 pounds so far).
  • That's what I recommend as well. I also recommend doing your own warm up. Insanity does not have a proper warm up, as I'm sure you've noticed, so I strongly suggest spending a few minutes on your own before you begin the video. Get your muscles ready to go. The last time that I did an Insanity work out, I got injured.…
  • Update: I won't be making it to karate class tonight. My back is hurting enough that I want to give it a rest day.
  • I like this, too. I also like the idea of using a light weight (~2lbs) to practice punches, but be careful to not over extend the punch. That could cause some pain in your elbow for the next few days. Generally speaking, working out and stretching on the days that you don't have class is a good idea. I use a punching bag…
  • ^ Pretty much what I was going to say. The above plus invest in a punching bag (either with its own base or hanging) and work on foot work while going at the bag hard. Try jumping rope, jogging / running, HIIT. Alternate the activities so that you're doing a different exercise each time (to prevents boredom). In my…
  • I get this, too. My suggestion is to try to avoid exhaling (or "oomphing") each time that you punch or kick, especially in kata. Some people, myself included, quickly developed a habit of doing this when it wasn't necessary. I had to practice kata (at home) while specifically focusing on the bad habit to break it. This…
  • That's the million dollar question. :) This website, and the majority of calculators on the web that I've used, seem to assume that each class is the most intense, non-stop class possible. 1,000+ calories per hour is something that I could see happening SOMETIMES, but each class? Heck no. What I do is I use my heart rate…
  • In that case I suggest talking to your doctor and possibly a psychologist / therapist. The urge to eat (or the non-stop process of eating) like that could be indicative of a health issue, or an issue like OCD. Please know that I'm not intentionally insulting you, and I apologize if I come across that way. While dieting is…
  • Snipped for brevity since my own post is long, but I agree with the entire post. It's very easy for people to point at the guns and gasp about things, and anytime that there's a murder - particularly such a public one - this inevitably comes up. People want something to blame and they focus on the easiest thing to focus…
  • I work out alone unless we're counting the dojo. My situation is probably uncommon though since I don't actually know anyone in this town.
  • Sure. I'll do a longer experiment when I'm feeling better, but I've had a splitting headache all day.

  • I sure did :( :D It's kind of depressing because it let out a long beep before going all blinking "please set me". Results of my experiment today: * Duration: Roughly 15 minutes, give or take (had around 8+ mosquito on me, so I couldn't stay out longer) * Cals burned: 245 Kata used: - Kihon Kata Ichi - Pinan katas: Shodan,…

  • Aug. 1st sounds like a good plan to me. I will be skipping Tues & Thursdays workouts since I have karate classes on those evenings, and possibly Mondays as well. Hard to say because I can't always make it to Monday's classes, so Mondays will either be Insanity or karate. edit: and by "skipping" I mean doing them on the…
  • Makes sense. Depending on how I approach the forms and how many I do I get 150+ cals burned. The problem (for me) with form practice is that there's a lot of stopping to consider what I did right, wrong, how I stepped, how I can improve balance, and so on, and then going back over particular movements to iron out the…

  • Oh, that's beautiful. XD
  • All I can say is that I'm looking at the photos in your profile and you're quite sexy IMO. I don't know the guy so I can't and won't pass judgement on him, but I'm looking at your photos and I'm wondering just what it is that he wants. ...and of course, you do have a right to be upset and angry over your BF saying that to…
  • That's a great idea. I have a "My Weigh Elite", which despite the name was pretty cheap off of Amazon. I verified that it was accurate by comparing its weight to scales used at the doctor's office. That said, my scale does report an incorrect weight the first time that it's activated each day. I have to let it turn itself…
  • Hey OP I used to know someone like that. He used to try to discourage me when I originally began to talk about enrolling at the university, and would be very passive agressive in his remarks. He wouldn't outright insult me, but he would carry on about how people with an education "think they're better than everyone else"…
  • Nothing to be self conscious about anymore, IMO. You look smashing.
  • Sports briefs do it for me. They're just long enough to prevent the rub. Everyone's different, though.
  • That's a great question. My current plan is to get a tailor made karate gi to both celebrate my new body, and to encourage myself to stay on the right path. This will be expensive, but I (unfortunately? fortunately?) have plenty of time to save up for it while I work toward my goal. Once I have it, that's not the kind of…
  • Watermelon. Sweet, tasty, lycopene rich, high in vitamins A & C and fiber, VERY low in calories, with numerous other healthy bits in addition to a nice dose of water. You really can't go wrong with it.
  • This website says that I can lose 5 pounds between now and Aug. 21st. Classes (here) begin on the 20th. So a 5 pound goal is what I'm shooting for. If I manage to lose more than that then that's fantastic, but I'm not going to push myself to the point that I burn myself out. This is my final semester as an undergrad, so…
  • I have no idea how it tastes on its own like that. With that in mind, here are some quick ideas: * Add vanilla to it for flavoring, then use it the same as other whey protein supplements are used * Put it into oatmeal or other foods as Tiny suggested * Add it to a fruit smoothie / blender recipe
