  • Thanks for your replies. I have made my food diary public, if anyone wanted to take a look. Please be aware I've just recently reset my macro %. I came back to add a little bit of detail. Firstly, I'm 5ft 9 and currently about 90kg (not exactly sure - too scared to hop on the scales at the moment). Between 2008 and 2010, I…
  • Apologies. I have tried to write this post twice and both times it has failed. I am too frustrated to re write it a third time. Bottom line is that I am gaining weight despite eating LCHF and can't figure out why. It has discouraged me so much that I'm considering going back to low fat which allowed me to lose 75kg. I…
  • I have both, I wear both. It's been a 6 month experiment. The short answer is that I prefer the Fitbit Flex. Even though it does not have a digital display, it is reliable and has never failed me once. The Garmin.... well, if you've never dealt with Garmin, let me assure you it can be frustrating. It often loses the…
  • I probably haven't been correcting for biking and lifting as I should have. Been a bit lax with that side of it. I don't know why, but it really hadn't occurred to me to just add an extra 50 or so cal to some meals. Why is that? LOL It is a plan I like a lot though. Will give it a shot this week. Thanks Heybales.
  • A lot of my calorie burn is from my job - I'm a PE teacher, so I move around a lot. I spend most of my day on my feet, then when work is done I do some exercise - which right now, is not overly excessive. I'm averaging around 5-6hrs a week of dedicated exercise. Fitbit tells me that if I just do my job and don't do formal…
  • Thank you for sharing. I so needed to hear positive things this morning.
  • Hi All. I lift. I run. :) It is great to see so many women who do both. I've had on/off affairs with both, lifted to lose weight, ran to see how far I could go, and then started doing both. Running just chews up my muscle! So I'm lifting 3-4x a week and running 2x a week as I'm coming back after a knee scare a year ago.…
  • Yep, coming back after a break is tough. Only go back to C25K if you think you need it. Otherwise, ease your way back into the running, say run 5min walk 1min, and so on until you don't need to walk again. You might find it will only take a week or two before you're back to running the full 5k again. The less you stress…
  • Thanks Jen, Heybales and Anitra. Heybales, I had a DEXA scan in 2010 and it told me my BF was 23%. Had a BodPod done in 2011 and it told me my BF was 24%. I also took a look at the gymgoal pages you suggested. Told me my BF was 29.8% (which I feel is pretty accurate) and that my BMR was 1735. Fitbit resting calories were…
  • Hi Jennbecca, thanks for the reply. To answer your questions: I'm 176cm (5f 9) and am 39. My Dieting history goes a little like this: 2008 - weighed in at 145kg 2008-2010 - used Calorie King (Au) to track calories. I was (and still am) pretty strict at tracking. For the first year I followed CKs calorie advice (I think I…
  • Wow. Thank you for posting this. Your quote above is close to where I'm at - mostly the unmotivated, exhausted and cranky part - and your story of eating at TDEE leading you to a positive result has inspired me greatly. Again, thank you.
  • Eat nuts. A small handful can have a lot of calories :)
  • Hi Kathleen. Have you read these? I've considered them, then joined his newsletter and while his premise seems okay, his writing style is a bit brash. Are his books like that? Are they worthwhile?
  • Heybales, I weighed in on Sunday morning. Saturday was a rest day (no exercise) and had normal sodium levels. I know my deficits are too big. I just haven't figured out how to make them smaller without me eating a ton of food.
  • Thank you for the support. It's very reassuring to know I'm not on my own
  • Thanks Heybales. In relation to questions you asked: Yes, I weigh/measure everything. Drives my partner nuts, but I do it. My food logging is probably 90% accurate - if I prepare everything I eat, then count that as 100% but I have dinner with family on Wednesdays and so have to do a best guess scenario. If anything, I…
  • :explode: :explode: :explode: :explode: Back to vent. Sorry. I've given this another 2 weeks. Average calories in: 2072 and 2043. Average calorie burn (FitBit): 2955 and 2830 And yet I have gain another 0.6kg. So I haven't increased my calories and still managed to make my weight go up (along with my measurements, for that…

  • I'm 5'9" and I'd agree.
  • Heybales, I had always ruled out the female triad because I never lost my period, nor was I ever underweight. Some of the other symptoms listed though sound awfully familiar. Luckily for me most of my injuries are soft tissue, although can't say I'd consider the torn meniscus in my knee 'lucky'. I still want to run a…

  • Thanks for the advice, Anitra. My current exercise routine is a shadow of its former-self. Right now, it goes like this: Mon: Gym/strength - 60min Tues: Walk - 60min or swim - 30min Wed: Run - 30min Thu: Gym/strength - 60min Fri: Run - 35min Sat: official 'rest day' although I sometimes go to the gym Sun: long run - 45mins…

  • Hi Anitra. My history goes a little like this: 2008 - I weighed 145kg (which is about 320lbs I think). I was 32 and had been obese since age 10. I started counting calories using Calorie King. Tracked foods, exercised moderately 5 days a week, slowly lost weight. I followed the CK way of eating just over BMR and then…

  • I have a Fitbit Flex and love it, but it is worth noting that it's not great at measuring some activities and you can "tamper" with it - try scrubbing cooking pots for half an hour!
  • Have you ever worn both the Fitbit and your BodyMedia at the same time and compared their estimations? I would love to know if they are the same or different?
  • You know, I wish I'd found this group before Christmas last year. That was when I did my reset - a total of 3 weeks. I ate at TDEE and the only exercise I did was walk (because I was on holidays and needed to get out of the house!). I felt really good. I honestly don't think the 3 weeks was enough. I went back to a cut,…
  • There is a mapmy (run, ride, fitness) phone app. I use it and it is pretty close to my garmin in terms of gps accuracy. Not so accurate for calorie burn though, usually much higher than my Garmin. If only I could eat that much more!
  • My town holds an annaul Aquathon. Run 4k swim 400 or run 8k swim 800. I did the long course and found the swim ridiculously difficult - especially since the run included 3 massive hills! I much prefer a traditional triathlon.
  • I have the 910XT which - if I compare back to any of my previous Polars, appears to under-estimate. Which probably isn't a bad thing. An hour's ride burns about 600cals for me. I live in a hilly area in a rural setting so I work hard on the bike and there is no coasting, LOL, but my HR usually averages around 130. Running…
  • Heybales - thank you very much. It seems I've been coming close to the 40/30/30 - especially on training days. I'm a bit slack with protein on sedentary days (must fix that). So I've set my daily calorie goal to 2000 (this is me sitting on my butt all day.) My Fitbit and MFP are linked. I have started to use Map My Fitness…
  • Thanks for all the replies. This is me for the most part. On rest days, I have no appetite. The only exception is if I've had a big training day the day before, then I wake up starving. An average week at the moment consists of 3 runs (up to 30min each) ; 3-4 gym sessions (45min each) ; and a walk each day (30-90min…
