Why do Aquathons, Triathalons, etc. start with swimming?

They always seem to start with swimming. Do any exist that don't? Also, why??? I much rather run and then jump in the water than the opposite.

The ones with swimming want to start you with that because they don't want you to be too tired from running or bikng and drown.0

For "most" people, swimming is their weakest sport. No one wants you to drown at the end.0 -
Ha! What an easy answer! Thank you!0

also - one more thought - a lot of these include wearing a wetsuit. Have you ever tried to put on a wetsuit? Even more challenging when you are already sweating.
I have heard of the odd one that does do a "reverse" triathlon.0 -
My town holds an annaul Aquathon. Run 4k swim 400 or run 8k swim 800. I did the long course and found the swim ridiculously difficult - especially since the run included 3 massive hills! I much prefer a traditional triathlon. :laugh:0

I would NOT want to swim after miles of running and biking. I'd most likely cramp up, and that's not safe. I imagine that's why.0
