  • I like IF just for the fact that I only have to worry about 2 meals a day. I have discovered that I am really not very hungry most mornings, and I was eating out of shear habit most of the time. The food I do eat tastes better, so I tend to make better choices. I can eat more satisfying, bigger meals too. It isn’t helping…
  • I am always amazed at how low calorie a good lean Steak is. The other day I bought an order of Donut Fries from DD. The serving size is 5 tiny sticks, and 240 calories! Those will definitely have to be a very rare treat.
  • I've had this ever since puberty and I have never been more than 5 lbs overweight. It lessened as I got older (I am 42 now) but never went away totally. I will have to try the coconut oil and retinol treatments.
  • I have the same thing and I am roughly the same size as you (5'4", 135, size 6/8). It is just where my fat seems to hang out on my body, along with my thighs. My upper body can be whip thin but I will always have that little belly pad, I think. I will say that posture really does help to minimize it's appearance. What I…
  • When I look at something like IIFYM, it tells me I should be eating 108 grams of protein a day, which is quite hard unless I am drinking multiple protein shakes and bars per day. Realistically I can get about 80-90 grams in on an average day.
  • Theoretically I should be eating around 100 grams (1g per lb lean body mass) but I have a hard time getting over 80 most days. If I eat a quest bar in the afternoons I can hit it.
  • I just don't have the lifestyle that allows me to weigh and measure absolutely everything, so recently I decided to basically shoot for a few hundred calories below my deficit on most days. That is what did the trick for me and I am finally losing after a long period of being stuck. MFP recommended 1350 net calories for a…
  • I have come to terms with the fact that to lose weight I am going to be hungry. Not all day, but at least part of the day. Right now it is almost 11 and I am starving. However, I know I can wait until noon, and then I won't be hungry again for a few more hours. I basically have just accepted that being hungry is not a…
  • I think the biggest trick for me is to put everything on auto pilot. Don't even think about it. Just do it. If I find myself reacting negatively to exercise or food, I know I need to take a step back, cool off, and remind myself that it is just a feeling and I don't have to be a slave to this feeling. I can make a choice…
  • It took awhile. I lost about 15-20 lbs a few years ago and gradually, I'd say over 3-6 months, gained about 2/3 of it back.
  • I can fit comfortable in size 6 pants instead of squeezing into them.
  • It depends on what I am craving. Greek yogurt with fruit. - 120 calories A few squares of good quality dark chocolate - 50-100 calories A piece of fruit - 50-100 calories Almonds - 150 calories A quest bar - 170 calories
  • I generally get pretty high heart rates when I run, especially in the summer if I am running in 80F temperatures. I don't run a huge number of miles - about 12 a week - so I am probably not as conditioned as some of you. I get heart rates up to 170-175 going up hills and 160ish running a decent pace on flats. Once it cools…
  • This whole conversation is really interesting to me. Until I hit my 40's, I was always naturally thin. I just always ate until full, leaving food on my plate when I was done. I really just can't overeat very much because I feel very uncomfortable if I do. I did gradually put on 10 lbs once having kids that I am currently…
  • When I started running regularly, the cellulite I had on my thighs disappeared. No one was more surprised than me.
  • I am fairly sure I'll have to log (and maybe weigh) continuously if I want to keep weight off. In my late 30's I lost 15-20 lbs (147lb to 131 lbs) and I logged every day for about a year. I figured I had it handled and I stopped logging. Over the next year or so my weight crept back up and I regained about half that…
  • OK, I was kind of skeptical, but I tried one of the cinnamon roll ones yesterday - WOW! They are very good! I think I will buy one of the variety boxes on amazon so I can cycle through all the flavors. Yes, they are expensive, but it is a really easy, tasty way to add protein and fiber and keep me from overeating other…
  • I think you are on the right track. If you want sustained weight loss, the most effective thing is to make choices and habits that you can live with. If you hate the foods that people tell you you "should" eat, it won't stick. I HATE eggs. It makes me sad that I hate them because they are a fantastic source of protein, but…
  • Actually, I just looked into it and they don't use the same sugar alcohol that the other bar I tried used (maltitol vs quests erythritol). Maybe they are worth a try.
  • Too bad they use sugar alcohols. I tried a bar with that stuff a few years back and had to RUN to the bathroom several minutes later.
  • I can get this way, but I tend to burn out if I don't get rest days. I would work in some rest days here and there - it will make your workouts more enjoyable and you will get better results. Also, it will help prevent injury.
  • Interesting thread. I am fortunate in that I have almost always been in the normal BMI range for most of my life. Recently, probably due a combination of being over 40 and having a more sedentary job, I have been pushing the higher end of normal (24), so I have been trying to be more vigilant about keeping under my calorie…
  • I am 5'4" and this is my situation exactly. A few years back I went from around 148 to 131 with a combination of a higher protein diet, adding strength training, running 3 days a week (about 15 miles) and tracking my calories. I went from a size 8-10 to a size 4-6. I let some of that go and now I hover around 142 lbs and a…
  • I hear you, and I don't think the desire ever really goes away. I basically take the approach of eating healthy meals on weekdays, but then on weekends, I eat at least one very large satisfying meal where I don't think about nutrition, portions or anything. My particular favorite is a cheeseburger and fries....yum! I still…
  • I am 5'4", about 143-145lbs and a size 6-8 at age 41. I am pretty happy with it. I am reasonably fit, run 3-4 miles 2 days a week on weekdays and 6-8 miles on the weekends, eat a pretty healthy diet and my body fat is at about 25%. I wouldn't mind getting down to 130-135, and that is my fitnesspal goal, and I think I'll…
  • Great job! I started running with C25K 4 years ago and I am still running! One more piece of advice: Start SLOW...I mean reallllllllly slow. Don't think about your time or pace at all, just run at a pace where you can breathe comfortably. If you are breathing hard, slow down. Eventually, you can work on improving speed,…
  • I love mine and have used it consistently for 2 years. It can be a nice push to get out there and take a walk or step on the elliptical for a bit of extra exercise on a day where I am not moving much.
  • I am 5'4". I was that weight once in my life and that was because I was depressed and barely ate for a few months. I have sort a wide build so I didn't look great at that weight. I look much better at about 125-130. Then I actually have curves.
