  • Well in that particular interview he does state there is zero difference - "both are equally bad". The sugar/no sugar debate has been on FB longer than I have - I guess it is a personal choice. I basically try to avoid refined sugar as much as I can - I do eat fruit under the same logic in the video - fruits have other…

  • I am 46 now, so my years of heavy squatting are behind me (pardon the pun). When I was in my 20s - yeah, I squatted regularly and made some gains. I find them to be more damaging then good now. Wall squats and Plyo do the job for me now.
  • My personal feeling is that refined sugar is poison so I try to avoid it in my diet as much as possible. Fats have gotten a bad name over the years, but I personally feel that sugar is a bigger culprit in health issues and obesity. Dr. Lustig is doing some very interesting studies that strongly support this - much to the…

  • Personally, I don't know about the embarrassment factor - I just find those exercises ineffective for my personal goals as a male. I play hockey and I try to keep active so my legs are already fairly muscular. Squatting to me is just overkill - it puts a massive strain on you back and your legs and takes a lot of recovery…
  • Every calendar needs an old beat up car pic!
  • I don't really know how accurate the "science" is behind HRM's, but I find it to be a really useful tool and this is why: for no other reason than (for me) it is a real time indicator of whether I am dogging it or having a good workout. And I can strictly tell that just by where my heart rate is at different point of my…
  • Thanks for the response. Doing P90x for 2 years now and have had great success with it (shed 40 pounds in the first year and now maintaining for the 2nd year). My goals are to maintain my current fitness and level of muscularity. I have a bit more fat I would like to burn, but at age 46, I am not worked up over it -…
  • Thanks - whoops thought I had it open - it is now...
  • 100% THIS ^^^^ Bananas are a SUPER food - I eat 1 -2 every day - cannot imagine a healthy life without them
  • Personally I think it is optimal to mix both strength training and cardio. Excessive cardio can actually inhibit weight loss (adpative thermogenesis). Here is a pretty good article on it: http://www.opposingviews.com/i/can-too-much-cardio-exercise-decrease-my-metabolism And I agree with others sentiment - weight loss…
  • ^^^^ THIS. I make a bit of a game out of it myself. For example, I love pizza so I say to myself, how can I eat pizza and still feel good about it? So I get pizza with veggies on it now instead of pepperoni. Still delicious and satisfying, fits well within my numbers and I feel good about it. Instead of eating highly…
  • I totally agree with you in the case of PB - it's one of my staple foods - natural PB has a lot of good fats and nutrients and I eat it almost daily and I am the most fit I have ever been. I replaced milk with almond milk because I generally find it to be a nicer taste and offering better heath benefits, but in general I…
  • My favorite breakfast is to just simply take one avocado, mash it with a potato masher in a bowl with some salt and spread it on a nice slice of toasted 12 grain bread. YUM and filling! Also, I like to use avocado in my shakes - makes them super creamy: Take an avocado, spinach, a banana, some flax seed, some protein…
  • I make room in my diet for natural PB - it's one of my staple foods - it is nutrient dense and has healthy/essential fats. I would rather eat 2TBSPs of it than say bread or dairy. It's very filling and satisfying, so I am very pro peanut butter myself, but if it bothers you try almond butter. Justins is very good (albeit a…
  • I discovered that bottled salad dressing was a HUGE hidden source of fat and calories. So now I take a small glass cup I mix in some EVOO, water and some red wine vinegar and two nice dollips of country style dijon mustard. YUM and no where near the fat or calories of bottled dressings...
  • Here is one of my new FAVORITES: Take an avocado, slice in half, scoop out into a bowl, mash it with a fork or a potato masher and a pinch of salt. Take a nice thick piece of 12 grain bread or half of a wheat bagel, toast it nice and dark and spread the mashed avocado on it - HEAVEN. I also eat a banana and a cup of tea…
  • I think it depends on the protein powder you use - I use HerbaLife Formula 1 and it is not sweet at all on its own - so it picks up the flavors of my ingredients nicely with no after taste. One I like (I use the NutiBullet - hands down smoothest, creamiest shakes I have ever made at home) is this one: half cup crushed ice…
  • Yep, I was and I made a choice not to be anymore through hard work and discipline. I am no better or worse than anyone else - my posts are in the context of co-worker sabotage and I call it like I see it. It is a mutual respect thing. If I have repeatedly, politely said no and you persist on hassling me about not partaking…
  • Thank you for sharing this - this is EXACTLY what I am talking about. This is not being nicey, nicey co-worker guy and offering food - this is a plain and simple FAT *kitten* creating a hostile work environment because he has no self discipline, low self esteem and wants to empower himself by belittling your own self-…
  • Nope, I am not like that at all - the discussion was in the context of this topic which is "co worker sabotage". My response was an honest one. Plus it's my choice to eat a cookie or not, the same way it is their choice to eat a whole box of cookies. My not wanting to eat a cookie should not make me a "jerk", the same way…
  • Yeahhhhh no, I am playing the "guy not afraid to call it like it is debating with over sensitive PC chick" My overweight co-workers did not get that way magically - they got that way from bringing in tons of junk food and eating it all day long. I don't judge them - I don't. I lost weight. It was very difficult and it took…
  • There's a health benefit difference between junk food and cigarettes? Please enlighten me... love to hear this one.... Not sure I understand the logic in the 2nd scenario? I would, um still say "no thanks" and they would still be kidding themselves that because they pose with their abs out in a bad cell phone picture they…
  • Huh??? Holier than thou attitude?? Great for you, you are the perfect human in the perfect office in the perfect world - it''s not really like that everywhere. Talk about generalizations, look in your own mirror... I like my co-workers and get a long with them very well. However, unlike your perfect office full of perfect…
  • Right - and in the real world where we all live and work you obviously don't, there are also things called called "work place rules and employment laws" - Of the 7 billion people you refer to there are also a large number of them who smoke too - so by your logic they should be able to smoke and blow their smoke into your…
  • We are talking about co-workers here who (in my case) are well aware if my eating choices and health habits. Same discussions over an over again, not brain surgery - it's deliberate ignorance - sorry but you are not correct in all cases... No I am not the center of the world (nor do I want to be), no I do not get on my…
  • Although I fundamentally do not disagree with you, I do feel (at least in my case) there is a certain amount of deliberate ignorance on the part of co-workers which pi$$es me off quite frankly. The people in my office who are also fit are the same as me - they never bring in tons of junk, nor do they care if you eat it or…
  • This is a personal Pet Peeve of mine and something that makes me really defensive. I cannot stand people who try to sabotage those of us trying to improve ourselves - nice or not they know what they are doing . To me it is no different than someone in a bar buying an alcoholic a drink. My approach is an unapologetic one…
  • One of my passions - I think Pizza gets a bad rap. However, I think like anything else there is "good pizza" and there is "bad pizza" (taste wise there is no bad pizza - ha). There is also a "good way to eat pizza" and a "bad way to eat pizza". Pizza is essentially bread (carbs) Sauce (if good sauce, no different from…
