I, too, have had very little dumping... and I was sort of counting on some to act as aversion therapy. I have had issues with a too full pouch... or food sticking (feeling like it's stuck in your eosophagus), and forcing a throw-up which was little more well chewed food and gastric juices... very mild and had to stick a…

Check with your doctor, but I am chronically low in iron, and mine was so low that I was sleeping 12-14hrs a day. My team recommended Ferrous Sulfate as it is the most absorbable form of Iron. I was on 900 mg a day, took one with my multi in the morning and two just before bed. It took some time, but I am feeling better.…

Yes, the first few days on the liquid diet is tough! Another day or two and you will be feeling better. There are alot of things you can do to get through these weeks (I had to do 3 weeks, and over Christmas & New Years to boot... talk about challenging). I used some extracts to add flavour and interest to the shakes, also…

This is apparently somewhat common in post surgical weightloss patients... so don't worry too much about it. And as someone else said it is usually fatty foods that will give you problems

The hairloss is mre likely due to not enough protein in your diet. I try to get a minimum of 60g of protein daily, better if I can get 75-90. That has been my goal all along, no noticable hair loss... and with adding the exercise I'm giving a good scrub on a regular basis. If increasing your protein doesn't help (and you'd…

Like me, you don't have as much to lose as many others who have chosen this route to weight loss. I was 240 before my pre-surgery liver shrinking diet. I was 225 going into surgery on Jan 5, 2012. I've lost about 60lbs all told. I've had a couple of stalls and slower loss that others who started out much heavier than…

Opurity Mulit vitamins were recommended by my medical team. They are chewable and quite large. At first I cut them into four pieces, as whole they were challenging. (I now cut them in half.) I am also taking Opurity Calcuim... 4 a day also fairly large but easier to deal wilth, I take 2 2x a day. With the Opurity you won't…

Don't buy new for awhile. But enjoy the moments when you are always pulling up the pants! As for skin, it really depends on how much you lose and how much elastin is still in your skin. It is best to wait at least a year and a half or even two years after you have reached your goal weight before considering plastics which…

I'm sure you have educated yourself very well, and it's time to educate your family. You need them to understand and for them to support you. Maybe get some of them to attend some of your appointments, where they can ask questions. There is risk in all surgery. You need to go into surgery with lots of positivity, and if…

Lisa... 21 lbs is alot! As the weight comes off, be sure to mark the little victories. The day I discovered my collar bones again (after an absense of far too long) was and exciting one. I had to buy new underwear, because they were too big. These are the types of milestones that are important. It's not about the numbers…

Wow, the difference is amazing! We get an idea stuck in our head about how we look and so sometimes we can't see what is so plain to see for others. Get your hubby to take your pics... we can then see your face and you will get a better idea... my daughter takes my pics every so often, but always in front of a door (for…

And you should be! My kids laughed at me as they read the calendar on the days leading up to my surgery. There were a number of tasks I wanted to complete bofore my surgery but on the day before my only plan was to finish packing and "fret and worry". I did it as a little joke for myself. The most important thing you can…

OMG... I'm RNY, and I burp ALL the time. And they are doozies. The farts can be quite disturbing, 'cause you don't know until they happen. Probably from eating too fast and managing to "swallow" air... it's gotta come out one way or the other.

Relax! Your body will take some time to adjust to your weight loss and will plateau from time to time. I stalled out at 50 lbs down and since I have put some real effort into exercise things are moving again. I've been cycling, and, believe me in the beginning it was sad and difficult. I'm now up to a 100km a week and…

try adding a spoon of jam (I am particularly fond of the strawberry rhubarb "Twice the Fruit" and usually sugar free) and/or a spoonful of your choice of sweetener. I also add about a 1/3 cup of granola and it makes a great breakfast and start to the day. I have found Kirkland's yogurt to be pretty good, (Costco)

Congratulations! The first milestone has been met and you are on your way to your healthier self!

There is also a group for women 50+ you might want to join. They are "50 something females" under the Community tab in groups.

Probably the first thing you should do is schedule an appointment with your GP for a FULL physical. Tell your GP about every ache, pain, concern you have. Make a list before you go. If possible, get your bloodwork done (make sure to include hormone and vitamin) levels before your appointment so you don't have to go back…

There is another thread on this topic... as I mentioned there, get your protein, at least 75g/day. I'm 7 mos out and had no noticable hairloss. Perhaps the moderator can merge these two threads?

I'm 7 months out, and had no hormone issues, and I was concerned about that. However, I have had fewer issues with ovarian cycsts that before surgery! I'm happy. I have been in menopause for well over five years, so that may be to my advantage! (I'm 52).

Boost your protein, make sure you're getting at least 75g/day... that should help... I'm 7 months out, no noticable hairloss! The book I read as my bible before RNY called this the "Build your own Cat kit".

I always carry food with me. I have become a huge fan of the flavoured tunas in the smaller cans. I'm particularly fond of the Italien pesto. I just have it on crackers. I usually also carry a protein bar... cheese and crackers are easy to pack in a purse... there is actually quite a bit if you plan a bit in advanced.…

I'm not a huge soda drinker, but sometimes in social situations you want to "look" like you are joining in... pour your soda from up high into the glass, slowly, and once the fizz is gone, it's flat, and seeing as I don't mind flat pop, it works for me! Just make sure you go sugar and caffeine free, and you can have some…

I've been taking Naka Multi for Women, I get it at Natural World. It's a bit pricey $42.00 a month or 6 weeks, I have to add iron, B12, Calsium and D, but the iron is more about me being chronically anemic. It's a liquid, in an orange juice, tastes very vitaminy, but it's only for the first while. However, I'm thinking…

First, God Bless you! The best that you can offer is love and support. It won't take long before she knows what she can and can't have. In my first week home, jello was a treat and it's basically liquid. Let her try whatever she is ready for. Once she is back on real food... i eat off a bread and butter plate with a "pie…

sugar and all it's friends... I was looking forward (almost) to dumping due to sugar... no luck at all!

Mine was three weeks and my surgery was the 5th of January so just imagine how much fun that was... I lost the 15 lbs I had gained when I quit smoking (as ordered and required)!

You might try to do it "old school". This is what is for dinner, eat it or be hungry! Another option, especially to get the kids to eat their veggies, is to offer a salad dressing for dipping, hot or cold, my kids (ranging from 13-23) eat most any veggie I offer. When i was growing up, each of the kids in my family would…

So glad to hear that you're back on track. Parents with illness is no fun at all and those trips to ER can really mess you up. Make sure you get some respite help with her, because (and as a nurse you should know this), if you don't take care of yourself then you can't take care of anyone else. I find the worst part to be…

How did your appointment go? And don't worry about your holidays... enjoy and then get on the "program" when you get back to your normal schedule, however, don't overdo it!!!
