  • Just amusing myself as I deleted my mfp account but seem to still exist on the forum like some scary ghost
  • In fact the more I think about it the more i hate the lifting heavy *kitten* that is peddled here. Every single super heavy lifting hero that has popped up over the years and have been worshiped have also disappeared due to back injury and never been seen again. Well - actually they do pop up again a few years later being…
  • The advice of MFP will always be lift heavy or it is pointless. They know nothing as I have never seen any of the MFP forum dominators offer advice apart from going heavy Doing a planche or a balance or human flag is better for movement and mobility and being a functional human being in old age. But what would I know as I…
  • Handstands make me happy Body position less then ideal in this one but I was focusing hard on the one hand part Hollowback is my favourite
  • I seriously love them. I have a couple of others from those manufactors and they feel amazing on. The only down side is the manufactors lifted all the pictures of me on Instagram wearing said pants and then took credit for the picture which has made me feel bitter about wearing them or posting pictures of me wearing them.…
  • I would love to be able to do a planche and human flag. These are long term goals. Short term goal is to master a one handed handstand and also be able to hold a straight stand for 1 minute. I reckon with daily practice these will be mastered by the end of the year.
  • I train to improve my agility and strength. The way I train shapes the way I look, rather than the other away around. I do a lot of aerial and handstand training which in turn means that I have massive shoulders. I think they look hot but they do make finding dresses and tops that fit a nightmare. Either too tight at the…
  • Loving seeing all the handstand action. I find them highly addictive. The more I practice, the better I get and the more I want to do. Another tip if you are learning is to practice by facing away from the wall, getting your hands into the right spot and then walking your legs up the wall until your body is parallel to the…
  • It will strengthen your core but it won't lead to hypertrophy (big muscles) like weightlifting will. You would see improvements to overall well being and flexibility so it is worthwhile to do, it just depends on what results you were hoping for.

  • I gave up caffeine a few months ago. I was doing research into improving my flexibility so I could get into the splits and the research suggested giving up caffeine would help as caffeine keeps the central nervous system tight and the CNS needs to be relaxed for certain moves like the splits. The first three weeks were…
  • Oh I am doing an alphabet challenge this month where you do a balance on something for each letter of the alphabet. A was for apples. B for Blocks. I did a bridge over a can for C. Handstand on a dumbbell for D. E was headstand on earth and today was handstand on flip flops. Didn't want to photo bomb the forum with "me,…
  • Only you can choose the person you want to be as you get older. Fit, active and independent as you go into your 60's and 70's or keep on doing what you are doing and let the rest of your life be one of diminishing opportunities. Being in your 50's and never being interested in exercise does not necessarily mean that is the…
  • Impressive DL but the picture in the corner makes it look like you are pooping flowers. Or is it just me ??
  • Look at those sweet fractional plates scattered around like lollies :)
  • I am doing a hand balancing challenge this month so hopefully I am great at them by the end of the month. Long term i want to get better on the aerial hoop so I can get to the point where I can perform in front of people. This a many hours of intentional practice exercise and realistically i might be too old, too…
  • While that is interesting, I think you will find that the majority of people who have contributed to this thread already have an excellent understanding of weightlifting and the various styles of lifts. If I was going to pick up something heavy off the floor, a straight legged DL is not the movement pattern I would use as…
  • Reformer pilates is great and I prefer it to mat work pilates. I wouldn't rely on it to dramatically change the look of your body but it will strengthen your core and increase your range of motion which are great things. Reformer classes are usually fairly small and intimate and relaxed so as far from the boot camp…
  • I am/was very inflexible and am working towards the goal of achieving the splits. It is a very slow process and might be something that I never achieve, as body structure/muscle insertion points potentially could make it impossible but I refuse to stop trying as I have made good progress over the last 12 months. For the…
  • I do pilates a couple of times a week (reformer rather than mat work classes) and found it extremely useful for strengthening my core, range of motion and body alignment. If you enjoy it and want to continue doing this style of exercise It would probably be worthwhile finding a decent instructor and attending some classes…
  • I guess it would depend what you do in your aerial class and how much you currently weigh. I do quite a few different types of aerial classes and the yoga one is the lower end of the scale re intensity and energy usage, even with flips and suspended planks. If you are working out the calorie burn for the purpose of eating…
  • That was an excellent article. Thanks for sharing
  • I just finished a class and was barely sweating. There is no way it would be in the high 300's. I would rate it the same intensity as a pilates class so around the region of 160 calorie burn is more realistic. It is great for balance and flexibility which is just as important as calorie burn.
  • I have serious plate envy. My home gym is measly in comparison but I do use it a couple of times a week. I also have an aerial hammock and an aerial hoop at various other locations around the house.
  • I got excited as well reading the title thinking it was a thread about the struggle to get to front and middle splits and that people would be sharing about how freakin difficult it is to get to those stretches. I dream of the day when flexibility issues get as much attention as lifting weights issues.

  • I third the padded short suggestion. Also magnesium or an epsom salt bath can help with muscle soreness.
  • The way I understand the issue is that no-calorie drinks/artificial sweeteners affect gut bacteria which can in turn affect weight. I heard an excellent podcast on the topic on "Science vs" which explored the various myths and scientific studies conducted on the issue of artificial sweeteners which was fascinating…
  • Sure. I am always happy to adopt new people. The people I adopted at the beginning of the year have disappeared which is kind of sad but that is just the ebb and flow of MFP life I guess. Quick recap of my area's of fitness interest at the moment. I love lifting heavy and doing aerial work (aerial hammock and lyra). Just…
  • I am currently 45. Up until the time I turned 40 had very little interest in fitness and exercise and it showed as I was 72kg, very unfit and very unhappy with the way I looked. I discovered MFP and weightlifting a couple of years ago and completely changed the way my body looks and the way I feel and my attitude towards…
  • Here is my contribution. I don't really have many before photo's as I was extremely camera shy until recently. I have been lifting weights for around 4 years, sometimes being disciplined and up to 4 times a week to sometimes barely any lifting depending what was going on with my life but have never stopped. I have gone…
