  • OK, first of all, MFP has 1200 set as a base number of calories for many people based on their starting weight and activity level, but then if you exercise at all, then that is bumped up. For example, I usually end up with about 1800 based on my activity for the day even though the base is 1200. So can you please clarify…
  • This is a very helpful thread! I have had this problem to an extent for quite a while. The first time I experienced it was several years ago, backpacking in professionally fitted backpacking-style hiking boots. I thought it was odd that the "best" footwear I owned gave me trouble with my toes. I think now it may have been…
  • I just found out about this! I'll join next weeks challenge. Way to go, everyone!
  • When I came up with my username I hadn't really heard the term "crunchy" a ton in common usage to mean "naturally-minded," "granola girl," but now I see it all the time. Anyway, becoming a mommy was my impetus to get healthy and part of being healthy to me is going natural, whole-foods, organic-when-possible, sustainable,…
  • I am impressed by these bellies. I have three kids, no c-sections; baby #2 was 10 lbs 5 oz. I don't think anything short of surgery would make my tummy look as good as some of yours. So much extra saggy skin! My highest pre-preg weight was 169; I lost 10 pounds give or take before my first pregnancy and returned quickly to…
  • Ha ha! I just discovered that mouthing the words is a good way to distract myself from the fact that the treadmill is SO boring (I like running outside but I'm not so tough that I'll do it in any weather). I'm training for a half mar. and did 7 miles on the treadmill the other day with ipod blaring, mouthing the words,…
  • I have to put in another word for second hand clothes. Good Will and consignment shops are my friends. I am a WAHM and we also have a couple of religious meetings a week, so I need to dress up sometimes and look professional when meeting with clients. The other day I got a pair of Gap 1969 jeans and a gorgeous J.Jill top -…
  • NICE WORK!! You look fantastic!
  • Rare to medium rare! I was disappointed recently when served well done roast beef. Was looking forward to it, too. :0(
  • Yay you!!! WTG. This is the kind of success story that means the most.
  • Great ideas! I never even thought of doing it this way.
  • Wow! Thanks for sharing your story! Reminds me of a friend of mine. Only she's still struggling with the weight and the sickness and the drugs. :0( Your story inspires hope, and you are just beautiful. Way to go taking charge of your health!!
  • I've never used the elliptical, but I get numb toes sometimes in my hiking shoes and in my running shoes (when on a hike or a run). I think it's actually related to not stretching enough. Try a foam roller? Of course, it could have to do with the shoes themselves, but for me I haven't found that to be the case.
  • Read the ingredients, folks. These cookies contain hydrogenated oil: trans fat. Evillll... They are far from healthy. Do they have nutritional value? Yes. Are they healthful? No. (They also contain high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors, but that might not bother everyone else as much as it does me.)
  • Hi there! Congratulations!! I'm a childbirth educator and labor doula, and I want you to know that what you eat during pregnancy is MUCH more important than how much weight you gain. Weight you put on in a healthy way will come off more easily after pregnancy, especially if you choose to breastfeed, which uses 300-500…
  • WAY TO GO! What a difference. You look great!
  • Are all of the MFP exercises user-entered? If so, they are probably based on the weight of whomever entered them. If not, they're probably based on some arbitrary average weight. I would go with the machines over the MFP ones, but as mentioned earlier, the machines aren't entirely accurate either. Here is a website that…
  • Wasa flatbread/cracker thingies with hummus or a little tuna or salmon salad made with light mayo and celery, or with a rolled up piece of deli turkey (Hormel Naturals are pretty good) Baked tortilla chips and salsa
  • I suggest Podrunner Intervals. They have a "gateway to 8k" and a "bridge to 10K" program for your mp3 player that help you build up gradually. I'll be finishing "gateway to 8k" next week! http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html Let us know how you do!! Best wishes - YOU can DO this!
  • It IS possible to get overhydrated, resulting in "water intoxication." Basically, a person can overdilute the electrolytes in the bloodstream. This is actually very dangerous and can result in death! (Extreme cases - I remember reading about a hazing where this happened.) I'm not sure how one makes sure they aren't…
  • Fortunately, no, I don't have this problem, but I'm wondering whether you could try to figure out what about your lifestyle changes is making him feel jealous and resentful. Maybe figuring out what is at the root (such as being worried that you'll get skinny and not want him for some reason? I've heard of this.) and…
  • Well said!! This site should be about support for ALL! After all, it's called, "myfitnesspal," which can mean different things for different people - another person's goals are not less valid because they're not the same as ours.
  • That's fantastic! And amazing! (What's the deal? I only weight 3 pounds more than you and am 5' 5-1/2" and wear size 14. Oh well!) :0)
  • Congratulations! Way to go! And excellent John Locke shirt, too.
  • ooOOOooh. Sounds so good. I'd throw on a few cut up artichoke hearts (not marinated, or if marinated, you can rinse them in warm water to get rid of some of the oil).
