  • I am 55, but really don't feel that age mentally. Now I just have to get my body to catch up to my mind. Just came back to MFP - I could use some support. Add me
  • Add me as a friend - I also need motivation. I can top you LOL - I was a regular on MFP, but stopped logging in after I lost 30 lbs, and I have gained it all back. YIKES ! And there are a lot of great DVD's or videos that you can download and do at home - don't give up.
  • I agree with so many of these comments. I once weighed around 200 lbs and was diagnosed as diabetic. I went to a nutritionist and she told me to not deny myself - - in other words, anything is ok in moderation. Also, when we eat something yummy, it really is only the first few bites that are totally satisfying. After that,…
  • Hi.... OMG - I hear you. I am back on MFP after a long absense..... and re-gaining the 30 pounds I worked really hard to lose. I am kind of mad at myself for that. And I am 52, so I know what you mean about your metabolism - it just isn't as easy as it used to be. And I watch some of these work out videos and think "Are u…
  • Hello. I have recently returned to MFP because I re-gained the 30+ pounds that I had lost a few years ago. Kind of mad at myself for that. I could use some new "MFP" friends and I could definatley use a pep talk every now and then.
  • Bella - I was diagnosed with diabetes 13 years ago and weighed over 200 lbs at the time. I lost 65 pounds and to date, I still don't take any medication and mostly control it with diet. I say "mostly" because I tend to re-gain and then lose the same 20-30 pounds over and over again. MFP has been a big help in the past, so…
  • First of all, give yourself a pat on the back. You must be doing something right because MFP shows that you have lost 35 pounds. That is FANTASTIC. I also love sweets and baked goods - they are my downfall. And I eat them on a regular basis - in moderation. But I honestly don't know what the trick is to that - - I just…
  • sugar snap peas - they are my "go to" munchie.
  • I know you already got a lot of responses, but I wanted to share an analogy from Jillian Michaels' new book - it was in the chapter on Staying Motivated. Here goes - If we get a flat tire while driving, we don't pull over, get out of the car, and flatten the other 3. We fix it and move on. Sounds like you hit a low point -…
  • Hi.... I am also diabetic, however, I have controlled it without medication for over 10 years. When originally diagnosed, I lost 65 lbs - but slowly but surely, I managed to put 35-40 of it back on. That's why I joined MFP - because I really want to keep my diabetes under control. Since mid- January, I have lost 15 lbs. I…
  • I think 12 lbs is a great weight loss for one month. MFP recommends one pound per week.
  • I used to have a scale like that and found it very frustrating. And the batteries died rather quickly. But I am fortunate because I work in a hospital and have access to very accurate scales, so I just weigh myself there now.
  • I am not expert, but no, I don't think 1200 is enough. I started at 1200 also. Originally, I lost 8 lbs but then I hit a brick wall and the scale would not budge. I read a lot of posts and there were some people who had bumped to 1300 or 1400 and started losing weight again. If you are at 1200 calories and you over…
  • I am exactly 50 . . . and time goes by so quickly, before I know it, I can join the over crowd. And YES - it is much harder to lose weight at this age. And all my extra weight seems to settle right in my midsection. Drives me crazy. Add me as a friend if you would like .... us mature woman have to stick together.
  • My worst habit is what I call "the all or nothing" mentality. If I goofed - I told myself the whole day was shot and I could eat whatever I wanted and start over tomorrow. Sometimes, this was a whole week thing - "start over on Monday" Now, I trying to plan for when I might 'goof" a little and eat lighter throughout the…
  • How about someone that just turned 50 - I'm there, if you know what I mean. It's harder to lose weight and most of the extra weight that I have is all in my midsection. I want to lose about 26 lbs and I will - but it will come off everywhere else first. And my friend just told me the other day - "you don't want to lose too…
  • You are not crazy at all. But you may be taking on a lot - mentally, quitting smoking is a challenge, but if you really want to do it, you can. I used to smoke more than you do and I quit 3 years ago. Don't miss it at all. But I gained some weight and that's why I am here. So, my advice to you would be to tackle the…
  • I have been on and off again - trying to lose about 26 lbs. This time, I have decided to commit myself to one thing - logging onto MFP every single day. Even this week, I was over my goal on more than one day, but still lost weight - because having to log in everything I eat prevents me from going over the edge. I have a…
  • Lots of people have already logged in with good advice. Really, you have to eat more. Slow and steady weight loss and you can keep it off. Set some short term goals and then some long term goals. I have approx 26 lbs to lose it by June. That's not even 2 lbs per week. I know it's frustrating and you want to see immediate…
  • Look to your MFP friends for motivation. I love reading the posts. I just turned 50 last month and have been struggling with an extra 20-25 lbs and a large percentage of it is in my mid-section. It's like everything settles right there. Feel free to add me as a freind.
  • I had to laugh when I read "older" and then read that you are 45 - - Yikes! I just turned 50 and it is such an uphill battle to fight this mid-life midsection. All my weight seems to settle right in the belly. In the past, if I gained a few extra pounds in the winter, it was not a big deal to take them off once the weather…
  • I hate having a closet full of nice clothes that don't quite fit anymore. I have to dress for work and then have casual clothes, so having an entire wardrobe that is just too tight is really frustrating. I love clothes . . . but I hate buying clothes based on what they will cover up.
  • Great read - and I loved the part at the end about the beer and wine. Now if you could only tell me how you fit beer into your calorie intake and stay under your goal, you may be my hero.
  • Hello. Turning 50 in about 2 weeks and I can't believe it. Mentally, I feel about 35. I have been at this for about 6 months, but I have had my ups and downs. More ups than downs actually. But I keep coming back to this site, determined to stick with it. The support is nice. I find myself logging in just to see what…
  • How about an almost 50 years old - in 2 weeks. Age doesn't matter past that point, right. We just stop counting and start having some fun! Add me as a friend if you want to. I really love this site, but have been stop and go for about 6 mo now. Just took a trip to Vegas and had nothing to wear cuz' it's all too tight, so I…
  • I love Zumba - but sorry, I have not found it in the data base and I think it burns more calories than regular aerobics (sure feels like it does at times). Actually, I googled it and it was quite a bit higher than what MFP gives you for even high impact aerobics, but that's ususally what I enter.
  • I am from Oshkosh, WI (transplanted from the Detroit area 18 yrs ago)
  • Another mid-west girl here. Your neighbor - in Wisconsin, but originally from the Detroit area
  • ooooh - I like the crystal light idea - and they make an Appletini flavor now. Just add vodka and you are on your way to unwinding.
  • Ahhhh - yes, I enjoy my beverages - and I have limited it to weekends only. But I miss having a glass a wine in the evening or a beer out on the patio - and I hear you - it's all about unwinding. I know I need to step it up and go "dry" for a while and I keep saying I am going to do it when summer's over and there are not…
