  • This is pretty much exactly what I came here to say. It truly blows my mind that there are still women out there that expect to not have to contribute at all to living expenses. I mean damn. You're both adults, you're both working - why WOULDN'T you contribute to the daily living expenses?? I guess as a woman who has lived…
  • I'm trying to ease myself back into it and build some habits, so right now my tiny goals are to log consistently for two months and lose 10lbs - just to prove to myself again that I can do it!
  • OMG I LOVE ZIPS! I'm living in Oregon now so I only get Zips when I visit my parents. Worth the splurge for sure, since I only get it a couple times a year!
  • Sometimes I like to skip breakfast because I always get munchy in the evenings. If I'm on campus all day or will be busy in other ways, I eat breakfast because I need the fuel, but if I'll be home most of the day (read: during the summer) I skip breakfast & wait to eat until later because it keeps me on track.
  • I've had a Fitbit of one type or another for 2 years now. It's been incredibly helpful for me to see how little I actually move. I'm a grad student who spends a lot of time sitting in class, in meetings, working on my thesis, etc. Most of the time the only walking I do in a day is to/from my car & around campus, but even…
  • I've struggled with anxiety for as long as I can remember but didn't realize it was a real issue for me until grad school. I finally went on medication for it last year & it helped a little too much, making me lethargic & literally give no f*cks about anything. I ended up gaining back the 30lbs I had lost. I finally got my…
  • I enjoy having a fitness tracker, it helps keep me honest & also helped me realize how little activity I get on a daily basis as a grad student (I rarely get over 5,000 steps). It pushes me to make more of an effort to move and also makes sure I'm more accurately tracking calories.
  • I love OPA greek yogurt ranch for dipping veggies in or using on baked potatoes, but I love raspberry vinaigrette for my salads. I also agree with others who have recommended dipping the fork in the dressing before each bite rather than pouring it over - this is what I do at restaurants so I can better control how much…
  • I've been all about Adele - 25 lately. The entire album, on repeat.
  • I could see this mantra working for some people, but I don't agree with it. There's an aspect of eating that isn't related exclusively to hunger and I think it's important to recognize that when 'dieting'. I don't dislike apples but they aren't my favorite snack, so I'm not usually willing to waste calories on them…
  • Love this post! It's so important to recognize the importance of your own journey & the fact that it won't look the same as anyone else's. I started mine Jan 2014 & wanted to lose 50lbs by Dec 2014. It was doable & realistic technically, but I realized quickly that I couldn't force it. Instead, it has taken me a year & a…
  • This is totally me as well! Sometimes (in the summer especially) I just drink coffee w/half & half in the morning and then don't eat until much later in the afternoon. I like to snack at night, so I may as well save those calories for a time when i really need them!
  • I agree with making the same protein with different sides. I often bake a big batch of chicken for my own dinners for the week, and I have veggies & a baked potato with it, but you could easily bulk up the sides with rice/pasta/etc. instead of potato & a veggie.
  • Sometimes just coffee depending on how busy my morning is, but usually a banana or chex with almond milk. Avocado toast though... YUM! I totally forgot I bought an avocado yesterday. Maybe that'll be lunch!
  • It's a tie for me between Darren Criss, Chris Lowell, & Matthew Gray Gubler.
  • I know you've said you don't like fruits & veggies countless times, but I really recommend trying again with ones you thought you didn't like years ago, trying new ones, &/or trying new ways of eating them. I used to be someone who "didn't like fruits & veggies", & then I realized that not only was I just stubbornly…

  • "Everything in moderation." I can't believe my mom told me this my entire life but it didn't sink in until I was nearly 24 years old.
  • I don't really have anything I don't like about it. The only reason I've been successful is because I didn't change my lifestyle enough to be disliked. If it stressed me out that much, I probably just wouldn't do it.
  • A few years ago, my dad was diagnosed with diabetes & started tracking his sugar and food intake to control it. He & my mom lost a bunch of weight just from changing their eating habits, which helped me realize that even small changes can make a huge difference. Unfortunately, after my dad got his diabetes under control…
  • I also like Dave's Killer Bread. I used to get the smaller loaves that are like 60 calories a slice, both to stay within my goal and because I live alone & can't usually eat a normal sized loaf before it goes bad. But, that stuff is expensive so I've been buying the Sara Lee "Delightful" 45 calorie bread. I'm not picky…
  • Currently eating lunch, aka a bowl full of veggies (mini sweet peppers, sugar snap peas, baby carrots, & grape tomatoes). Yum!
  • I don't have planned cheat days, I just try to eat consistently under/at my calorie goal most days so that if I do want to or need to take a cheat day, I don't have to feel guilty about it. I can go out with my friends & have the chicken strips, fries, & beer once in awhile, knowing that the next week (or two or three)…
  • I mostly drink coffee in the morning & water/tea the rest of the day, but I also like diet soda once in awhile.
  • I don't think I was taught about nutrition in school & if I was, it was so fleeting I don't remember it. I didn't really know the science of weight gain & loss until a year or two ago when I did my own research. Healthy eating and knowledge about healthy weight is fairly privileged information in society today. If you grew…
  • I usually eat most of my allotted calories, because I'm the same way. I literally think "200 calories left? I could have _______ and _________ and still have 2 calories left!" Something that has helped me though is keeping busy and going to bed at a decent time, because I do most of my snacking at night. I also drink a ton…
  • No, I think before going on a diet you have to think realistically and do what you can to make it a lifestyle change, not a fad diet or extreme diet. I eat sugar now because I don't plan to give sugar up for the rest of my life. Why would I? I enjoy sugar, and in moderation, there's nothing wrong with it. I've lost weight…
  • Sweating when I'm working out is totally fine, but I'm someone who struggles with sweat on a normal day. Like, walking across campus to class? Gonna have massive sweat stains. I hate it. I found a deodorant spray called OdaBan that helps me with that, but if you're only sweating heavily when you're actually working out…

  • I agree about not taking a bunch of food to work - just take enough for dinner and a snack or two, or skip the bigger 'meal' & just take a bunch of smaller snacks to keep you satisfied through your shift. If you have access to hot water, I would also take tea bags & sip on that all night. I have to similarly limit myself…
  • Get a grinder and grind your own coffee - it makes all the difference! I used to drink my coffee with loads of cream/sugar or flavored creamers but now I like it with a little half & half. When I can afford it I splurge on really good coffee (Stumptown Hair Bender is my FAVE) but even just the beans from a grocery store…
