  • Overly simplified, the way I understand it is that Carbs, Fats & Proteins all have calories. Fats and Proteins are essential (although people disagree as to how much of each you need) so most people cut calories by lowering their Carb intake.
  • I've been on two different pills and had the implant, none of which have made a difference to my weight :) everyone reacts differently, if your finding it really hard to lose on a pill go back to the docs and ask to be put on a different one :)
  • This, if I was you I wouldn't mention anything for now, if she's not losing weight and comes to you for advice point her here and suggest she tracks calories :)
  • Most fruits are quite high in sugar, personally I only eat them for a treat. Some people on here say sugar is bad, some will say sugar doesn't matter as long as your overall carbs are within their macros. If your losing weight and don't have any bad effects (if I eat too much sugar I get tired etc) then I wouldn't worry…
  • I swim for weight loss, it can burn a lot of calories and is great full body cardio :)
  • I have Implanon and I lift. It's inserted just under the skin, it's above the muscle, so muscle can't grow over it. From what I understand when muscle grows it's old muscle ripping and healing itself, if there is no muscle above the implant, none can grow there. Check with your Doctor if your really worried, but I havent…
  • I do weights 4 times a week, swim once, other sports maybe 3-4 days a week :)
  • As a rule of thumb they say losing 2lb per week is the most healthy & most sustainable rate to lose. It should also minamise baggy skin etc. Obviously it depends on your height & how overweight you are, and you will probably lose a little more in the first few weeks. But as an aim, 2lb per week is a good amount.
  • This! Just because something isn't complicated, doesn't mean it isn't hard! And I'm sorry, but from what's been said on here, the way your losing weight doesn't seem healthy. This is a motivation & support forum, your post wasn't either. A very few people have genuine health reasons why losing weight is harder (my mum has…
  • You can get free podcasts here: www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/couch-5K-running-plan.aspx where a woman tells you when to run/walk. The music is interesting!
  • See if you can get an exercise bike cheap or even free and do 10 minutes as hard as you can after the kids go to be each night. Involve them in activities, go for walks or take them swimming. Save the left overs and have for your lunch the next day. As for motivation, you'll be setting a great example for your kids!
  • Im 23.3 too! But I'm only 5 foot 5
  • When I say strengthen my back I mean core. I've googled Deadlifts and there are loads of articles on not doing them if you have a bad back, which is what is scaring me! Lots of great advice here, thank you! I will start with lighter weights and work my way up slowly, being very careful of form.
  • I don't have a bread machine, but I know my mum used to put seeds in her bread, which was really nice. Mum used to set the bread machine to come on in the morning so we'd have fresh bread for breakfast, one morning my dad didn't realise and unplugged it halfway through cooking so he could plug in the kettle. Mum was not…
  • I've been doing Planks, Seated Rows & Lat Pull downs, I will look into the others :)
  • Thats a good idea, I might start with really low weights & get my husband to video me each time to check I'm doing it right then slowly up the weights. Thanks!
  • Thats definately something I'll look into when I get back to the UK, my husband is in the Army and we're currently in Germany. The gym I use is the Army Gym on camp which doesn't have any personal trainers!
  • I would go back to your Doctor and ask them firstly if you can work out, and if so what exercises would be best. From what I've read, exercising could cause complications, so don't do anything without your Doctors say so.
  • Bean burgers! I'm not a vegetarian, but I love them. I buy a can of '3 bean salad' from tescos and mash up half the tin (which is one of your 5 a day) with half a red onion and then squish into a burger shape then dry fry. I love them!
  • Give them away! Then if you put the weight back on you have to walk around naked. Thats a great incentive to keep the weight off!
  • This, remember that you will weigh different amounts throughout the month!
  • My friend is very into weight training, but I think when she got injured she put training on hold until her physio said she could go back to it. Cycling is a great way to strengthen your knee, and then when it gets strong enough you can get back into weights. My mum also discovered a love for cycling, she used to cycle…
  • I'm new to strength training, so definately not an expert! If you dont have acess to a gym or weights, do push ups every/ every other night or so, start by doing maybe 5 sets of one modified push up, then as you get stronger increase until you can do a normal push up, then increase them. If you do have acess to a gym I…
  • My mum has rheumatoid arthritis in both her knees, and had surgery on one of them a few years ago. She found that cycling was really great for her knees, she could cycle miles but only walk a hundred meters! After a while her knee got stronger (the Docs said she would need a knee replacement but so far she's managed…
  • This. The bigger you are the more calories you will eat to maintain your weight. As you lose weight you need fewer calories, if you put on weight you need more. Same applies if your eating at a constant deficit.
  • I'll see if I can find one, I hardly ever go into the town centre lol. I've learnt the German for Carbs, Protein etc so I'll study the labels :)
  • I hate tap water, but am getting to quite like filtered water. Keeping the jug in the fridge so its cold helps too :)
  • Protein shakes that my husband can take on top of his regular meals to up his calorie & protein intake. I can't load the website but I think I might have driven past the shop. I'll pop in on payday!
  • Bielefeld, near Hannover. Theres a REAL really close to us but the vegetable section isn't that big, we've been shopping at Marktkauf as it's cheaper, I'll have a look for Edeka :) He starts work at 8 so he tends to skip breakfast (he's not a morning person) but I've just bought some breakfast bars that he can grab as he…
  • Anyone else have any tips?
