Losing & Gaining weight with same meals

I am trying to loose about half a stone of holiday weight, by counting calories (eating low carb as it works for me) and exercising (including strength training), my husband is trying to gain weight (muscle) at the same time.
We eat the same Dinners (although his portions are much bigger and usually have a baked potato or pasta that I go without). They are usually quite healthy and, although he usually has mac & cheese or similar for lunch, he can't seem to get enough calories.
We are living in Germany at the moment, so are a bit limited when it comes to things like protein shakes (we don't speak German so a bit worried about buying them out here, the Naafi has some, but very limited!) I don't really want to cook 2 different meals for tea as well as lunch, so would really appriciate some advice about upping his calorie intake!

Yikes, that is tough! He could add a lot of things that are calorie dense, like snacking on nuts and avocado, drinking whole milk, etc. That would be an easy way for him to add calories without cooking multiple meals.0

I thought whole milk, but he will only drink semi-skinned! I'm also allergic to some nuts, so we're a bit limited with what we can have in the house!
I've been looking out for avocados but haven't been able to find any yet, I will keep looking!0 -
Anyone else have any tips?0

Whereabouts are u in germany? I've spent almost all my life there. There are some great grocery stores whcih sell things like avocados etc.
Try the stores 'REAL', 'Kaufland', 'Edeka'.
What do his breakfasts look like?0 -
Bielefeld, near Hannover. Theres a REAL really close to us but the vegetable section isn't that big, we've been shopping at Marktkauf as it's cheaper, I'll have a look for Edeka
He starts work at 8 so he tends to skip breakfast (he's not a morning person) but I've just bought some breakfast bars that he can grab as he leaves the house, which is better than nothing!0 -

What kind of protein shakes are you looking for?
If you want meal-replacement shakes youll get them in pharmacies and drugstores. I usually buy the "Gehe Balance Diätdrink". You'll get it in any German Pharamacy. They might have to order it but then you'll have it in the afternoon or the next day!
It looks like this:
As an alternative you can also buy "Almased" which is completely bio. But I don't like the taste.
"Gehe Balance" and "Almased" are relatively low in protein (~40g/100g) compared to body building shakes. But you can get that stuff either through the internet.
Check also the "Galeria Kaufhof" if you have one. Mine is selling all Weider products. (80g protein in 100g).0 -
When my hubby was posted to Germany we used to go to the American PX to shop. Can you still do that It's worth it because you can buy US branded goods and it was always a lot cheaper. The local stores will sell lots of fresh veggies most of them are self service so you don't need to speak German.0

If you're looking for bodybuilding type of protein shakes. I found this shop in bielefeld on the internet:

Like I said. All "normal" protein shakes you'll get either in pharamacies or drugstores ("Rosmann", "DM" etc.)0 -

Protein shakes that my husband can take on top of his regular meals to up his calorie & protein intake.
I can't load the website but I think I might have driven past the shop. I'll pop in on payday!0 -
Go to the local 'MÜLLER' it's like a huge drugstore. They sell decent protein shakes. I'd stay away from those 'Diätdrinks/getränke'- they taste nasty and are loaded with carbs.0
