Interesting article on how inflammation can affect the ability to live long. Stress on the body usually comes in form of diet/exercise/attitude/genetics. So to zero in on cholesterol as the main culprit in heart disease would be a very, big generalization. Just to give you an idea, cholesterol medication has a ratio of…

Fitness Gal - take out the oreos and the ice cream, blend a small amount of fruit in it. Make sure you measure out all your calories correctly. Google healthy low calories protein shake recipes.

I've been doing 1200 net for a month now. Its usually 1300-1400 + one hour walk on the treadmill and get to 10K steps on my fitbit daily . So far, I seem to averaging between .5 to 1 pound a week. I'm also 42 yo, 5'2", 30+ overweight and I think age/slower metabolism seems to make it easier for me to eat around this amount…

Yeah, I agree. See a doctor to make sure it's not a herniated disc or something major. If you don't heal that first, you'll end up having problems for life. If your doctor confirms it's just a muscle sprain, ice and lay off it for several weeks or do light walking on the second/third week. Maybe just some stretching in the…

Oh, also maybe consider drinking some dandelion tea or dandelion coffee. It's great for flushing out sugar deposits in kidneys and healing the liver from alcohol consumption. Also helps with weight loss. WTG=D

Great job on getting to day 3 Jimbopolo! Sugar is a real hard addiction to overcome because it stimulates the reward part of your brain so easily. It will take a week for your body to reset itself and for the dopamine/endophines to balance out. Maybe exercise more until then and see if that helps stimulate dopamine to…

You know what they call a person that graduates last in his med school? Doctor. That's a joke I tell my patients as an acupuncturist when they talk about how their doctor screwed up their surgeries etc. If my doctor gave me the advice he gave you, I'd go find another one. He doesn't understand nutrition and why should he?…

I'm a licensed acupuncturist with Chinese herbal expertise (meaning, I learned Chinese herbal formulas in college and passed the national boards so I have the equivalent knowledge of a native Chinese herbalist). What everyone said here is true, there is no magic pill or herb (although I have ALOT of patients asking me for…

My first job out of college was in a male-dominated industry. Even my customers (which were men) tried to intimidate me for fun because I was a young woman. I didn't know how to handle it and I wilted under the awful comments and jokes. I remember talking to my dad and the first thing he said is that men are competitive…

sometimes savoring each bite helps me. If I wolf something down, I keep wanting it. But if I really slowly eat and savor the bite. I find I've satisfied that craving faster.

I work a full-time job and then a part-time job at night on top of that so getting to exercise is only doable during lunch. I have a gym 10 minutes away so I do 30 minutes of walking at an incline, then go back to work and eat at my desk while I work. I find that easy. If I did it any other way, I'd never exercise. So…

when I was in my teens and 20s, I was so skinny and thought nothing of it. Then I hit 30 and man! Why didn't anyone tell me that metabolism drops off at that time? I gained first 10 pounds, then 20 pounds, now I'm 40 and I'm 25 pounds overweight and I don't think I eat anymore excessively than I did in my 20s. It's just…

I can't get a real answer either. One study says 5 to 6 little meals builds your metabolism, but you are burning off sugar instead of fat because it's getting it's energy from the food. Another study says wait 5 to 6 hours in-between meals with 3 main meals because it triggers your body to start burning off fat from your…
