Howdy from Central Texas! My small step is logging water. I have been fighting obesity since around age 8. I was over 300 pounds multiple times. I lost 100 pounds twice only to gain it back. In 2014, I lost 70 pounds and opted for gastric bypass to help my chances of keeping it off. Which I did. Until the pandemic. I…

Where do you live? The reason I ask is I have a moderately severe case of Seasonal Affective Distorder. That means in the winter months, even here in Texas, I can find it hard to get moving. My body and mind go into "hibernation" ("depression") mode. What helps me is having a very regular bedtime and wake up time, and the…

You are not alone. Some of us gain weight as a protection mechanism. When that "protection" starts to disappear, we get nervous and can start self-sabotaging. I'd recommend finding a therapist to figure out other strategies to feel safe when your "flesh wall" comes down.

What I've read recommends 600-1000 calories from 2 months out to the first year. My doctor just has me focusing on protein, and I usually am between 700-1000 with that goal.

I had RNY on 10/27 and have had some struggles, but mainly from pre-existing surgical hernias. It is STILL the best decision I've ever made, but I strongly suggest making a lot of the changes now. A year before the surgery, I worked on cutting out sodas, bread, white rice, most sugary snacks, etc. I also worked on lowering…

I recognized even just 2 months from surgery (10/27) that I was going to have to change my mindset about food and nourishing my body or this was just going to be another quick fix that went wrong down the road. Don't beat yourself up. You know what you have to do. Just do it. And seek counseling if you think there are…

You know what I really love? You looked beautiful and happy in your own skin in all the pictures, from heaviest to now. I think that's part of what's made you successful.

Mine took about a week and a half. My patient advocate at the surgeon says they have up to a month to respond.

Kind of concerns me that you're having headaches and low energy. You don't want to get anemic or short on other vitamins. Is your nutritionist an RD specializing in patients who have had WLS?

I've heard Aetna can be a bear to work with. Have you gotten an approval letter yet? My surgery date is also Monday. I'll be praying for you.

This was helpful for me, folks. Thanks for sharing. I was at 43 BMI when I started the 6-month supervised diet, and now I'm right at 39. I'm starting my two-week 30-carb diet on Monday with surgery on the 27th. You've helped me have a more realistic view of what to expect weight-loss wise after the surgery. I hope my head…

Congratulations! I'm right ahead of you on 10/27. Let's stay in touch and share success stories (because they ARE going to be success stories.)

I have three more days of "regular" eating. Then my two week pre-op, 30-carb day diet. And then I'll be right behind you. It's good to hear someone who has recently survived the first couple of weeks and "graduated." Thanks for sharing and congratulations!

Quest Bar eaten SLOWLY with coffee or milk. If I eat it slowly, it will hold me for four to five hours. :) If I eat it fast, I'll be hungry at 10, and have an apple with string cheese or peanut butter to hold me over.

I just finished my 6 months and got my date. Just a little bit longer, Sam. We're on our way!

I just got mine = 10/27. I'd love to walk through this with you.

I'm kind of in your position. I work at a university, but my job is split between desk work and doing workshops for teachers in the field. I have struggled with the "I have a PhD. Why can't I figure this out?!" issue, too. Although my degree is in education, it still seemed like with as much as I know about educational…

Thanks everyone. Actually, I have been working out with a trainer since right after my hysterectomy in June last year and that's why I opted for WLS. I was gaining weight no matter what I did. We (my doctor and I) had hoped the surgery would make my hormone problems better, but it did just the opposite. I'd gain 10 pounds…

So excited for you! Keep us posted. :flowerforyou:

I love MFP. Feel free to add me. I am still in the 6-month monitored diet, so I haven't had the surgery yet, but I fully intend to continue using MFP afterwards.

Howdy, all! I'm Glenda. I'm 45. My highest weight was 303 (that I know of...I stopped weighing). My current weight is 249. My goal weight is anything under 200, but the doctor is hoping for 150. I have 6 weeks left on my doctor supervised weight loss plan as required by insurance and then HOPEFULLY I will be able to have…

I get so frustrated with people telling me to "just do it yourself without surgery." What do they think I've been trying to do for the past 40 years? Insensitive and rude. If people are able to get it off and take it off without surgery, more power to them, but I have done the research and this is the best chance I have of…

I'm new to this group, too, but I'm glad to see another Central Texas person here. ♫The stars at night♫ are pretty bright out here at the very edge of Austin, too. Nice to meet y'all.

That's fantastic! I keep telling myself that even if I just lost a pound a month, that's 12 pounds less that I did the year before (or more, because I'd probably gain if I weren't paying attention). Here's to a healthy new year for you!

Keep in mind that the scale is a very small piece of the picture. In July, I "only" lost 6 pounds, but the body fat percentage dropped 6%. I lost 16 pounds of fat and gained 10 pounds of lean mass by that calculation. Did it look like "slower weight loss" because of exercise if I just looked at the scale? Sure! In fact,…
