I go to X-Sport on Logan and sometimes the one on State St.; fairly affordable at $35 a month (roughly). Not the most upscale type of gym (but so what... you're there to do work, right?) but it suits its purpose, and there are a number of different classes scheduled that are included in the membership. They do have a pool,…

The mouth appliance helped me A LOT... I was dx'ed with Mild OSA just this past summer, though I know I've had it for years. I've always been overweight, but after putting on a significant amount of weight very quickly and being the heaviest I've ever been, it got to the point where it made me too exhausted to function up…

Great job and cheers to you for having way more willpower than me :)

Awesome job... and I totally feel ya on all points (similar stats=similar issues). Keep it up!

That's awesome and what a great example you've set for her!

Take the time to get your form right with the lower weights and soon enough you'll be making teh gainz. It's better to have perfect form with lighter weights than sh***y form with heavy weights.

Eat "healthy" (whatever that means for you), exercise, die anyway. In the meantime, do what works for you that allows you to live your best possible life. If that's eating junk food, fine. If it's eating a balanced diet, fine. If it's "keto" or anything else, fine.

Posts like these make me wonder why I even click on them... OP, without even seeing a pic, I assure you that your quads are not too big. It's all in your head.

If you are only going to lift once a week then do full-body; ideally you should do it 3x. If you are going to do a split, I would go push-pull-legs. Compound lifts are you best bet regardless...

Go heavy or go home; nice job & keep it up!

Well how would you like him to deliver the news to you that he would like your rear to be smaller or for YOU to get a six-pack? Not being snarky I'm being honest... however you feel would be the kindest way to receive it is the way you should deliver it. ETA: missed a word somehow...

Underwater weighing or DEXA would be most accurate; I personally like DEXA for measuring body composition, provided you get it done at a place that specializes in that (apparently there is different software for different purposes). It gives a detailed breakdown, but it's costly... ran me about $100. There's also the Bod…

I was ready to come up in here and exclaim with great exhaustion "When will the ignorance end?" and was relieved to find otherwise. Nice post.

I've got a good 100+ lbs to lose; add me if you like. Good luck to you.

Hilarious... ya know I could have sworn this was written by someone in her mfp blog. Wonder where it really originated then... *shrug*

Yep, and their own never stinks.

Great job! One of the things that as prompted me to get back on track is that my A1C is teetering on the diabetic range; stories like yours make me feel like I can make it better without having to get on meds. I also look forward to the day I can drop a BP med (or both lol). Keep it up!

It's totally possible to lose that amount if you've been eating a lot of carb-y stuff and then go to low carb... not only do you lose water in general, you also lose the glycogen that's been stored in your muscles (which also has water attached). And yeah, the BM contributes too. I'm doing keto right now; feel free to add…

TBH you don't need unless you are not getting enough protein from other sources in your diet. If you need something to meet your protein goal for the day, it can help do that. Personally, I'd rather eat the protein in the form of say, chicken or beef, than to drink a shake. I guess if you want to amp stuff up, like adding…

Awesome job; thanks for the visual! Very inspiring

Today I upped my bench... 155 lbs x 3 (technically 4, but I can't count it because I got help on the way up). And, the other day I upped my my overhead press to 95 lb x 5

Okay I couldn't find the one I thought there was (probably just incorrect recall on my part) but check this place out: http://realryderrevolution.com/index.php?page=chicago-home

Ummmm if I recall there is a spin studio somewhere in the South Loop area. I do spin classes at my gym.

Well, I'm a food geek. And I better be, considering I'm a chef. Haha. I'm going to be honest about my dining out philosophy: eat healthy, exercise, and die anyway. That being said, when I'm out checking out new restaurants I don't "pig out" but I certainly don't limit myself to what sounds healthiest. I'm one of those…

These were my PR's as of about two weeks or so ago... have been out of the gym (for a number of reasons) so I haven't pushed 'em recently. All are 1 RM's Squat 220 Bench 155 OHP 85 Bent Over Row 130 DL 210 (lagging behind squat, assuming because I haven't been working on them as I should) and, FWIW, BB Curl is 75 Really…

One rep max is 220-ish Working sets I do 195x5

Great job!

Whoever that person is that did that is not a friend... how awful and pathetic! And just MEAN! Would he/she do that to a diabetic or someone who had an allergy? I can't get over people these days. Anyway, I wouldn't have taken the coffee. I would have just gotten up and said "Excuse me, I need to get a new coffee. This…

The best exercise for weight loss is.... Whatever you enjoy and stick with consistently. It's really irrelevant as long as you maintain a caloric deficit. I personally love cycling and in the past it's been great for my weight loss because it's something I looked forward to doing and doing a lot (thus ensuring I kept that…
