when i went to the gym i used to "squat" 185 lbs
then i discovered crossfit and realized im barely parallel. so i had to basically start over so i could do *kitten*-to-grass....started at just 77lbs in april now at 140 lbs0 -
I'm 4'11, 105-110pounds, and my 1RM is 215

yeah, a guy at my gym was "squatting" 315, but going down about 1/4 way. doesn't count.0 -
Finally up to 145 working sets.....no idea what my 1 rep max would be because I also do not have a spotter!0

I do ATG and I can't even do bodyweight yet (I don't mean barbell-less squat, I mean bar + plates weight equal to my body weight).0

They are doing sumo box squats. I do mine like that but without the box. It's much more comfortable on my knees and back.

Dont think i would call that "squatting". I know they do that super, super wide stance in some powerlifting competitions, but I am of the mindset that a greater ROM with shoulder width stance is a squat (Olympic snatch or clean catch position) is a proper squat. whatever they are doing on that video should be called something other than squatting.
it's "squatting" regardless of your interpretation of it.
It's legal in competition (minus the box). And I don't know anyone who would say it isn't a squat just because the stance is wide.0 -

Thanks guys. I am a bit confused though. You recommend a program that does not have a deload and has a faster progression than 5/3/1 until your progress stalls but would not recommend tweaking 5/3/1 a little for a faster progression until progress stalls? Is it possible that those who tried eliminating the deload were already at a much higher lifting experience where a deload was necessary.
I am using strstd.com BTW its great.
If you read the 5/3/1 book it's not about "faster" progression
Understood. But it is also an intermediate to advanced program. Most recommend it after faster progressing routines. Why not tweak it to be more in line with a beginner routine until progress stalls. Then follow it as intended.
There is a section in the book about how to tweak for beginners. It's one of the chapters near the end.0 -

I'm ashamed to post my measly 100lbs (that I'm pretty sure I could have gone heavier with) that I had to stop at when I hurt my knee last month. LOL You ladies rock!!! I can't wait to get back up to par. I am truly inspired to keep pressing forward after seeing this thread!!!0 -

Working sets I do 195x50 -
My wife went from 20kg to 96kg in 3 months on Starting Strength, before she got a hip injury.

I do body pump classes twice a week - i went from 10 kg to 28kg in 3 months... hope to lift more by the end of the year...:)
I recommend going with a tried and true strength program like Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5x5. You will double your squat.
Totally agree with this. Stronglifts added 30 lbs to my max squat, and I didn't even finish the program (got prego)

I started with BodyPump and moved on to Stronglifts and my current PB is 90kgs x 4 (198lbs).
I started Stronglifts in April after knee surgery, so at the start it was slow and steady to avoid re-injuring my knee.
I think we are going to go for 95 or 100kgs next week.

135 lb. max 5x5 (equal to my bodyweight). I haven't tried to go higher -- not sure how much more to go. Just came back last week after 3 months off and am did 105# yesterday.0

Ever? I did 70kg (154lbs) for a couple of reps back in January when I was a bit heavier. Just to parallel.
Currently? Around 65kg (143lbs) for 1 rep, but I don't know exactly. I'm going deeper than I was then and I'm a little lighter.
My squats are the one exercise I feel I need the most work on. Hoping to get back up to my best ever (and beat it!) by the end of the year, while still being lighter, and going deeper than I was in January They're improving.0 -

Just to warn you, strong lifts and body pump aren't anything alike.
Stronglifts involves 5 sets of 5 reps ... which is polar opposite of the pump idea of a billion reps.
I'm going to just throw it out there and say you can probably squat more than 28kgs x 5 reps.0
