  • I had this problem recently because when we visit family in Louisiana, we always have tamales with breakfast and take home several dozen with us (to NC). We get them from this old lady in town by my grandmother that has a shack on the side of the road. I think I went above average on calories as well. They are so…
  • Hey everyone, great starts to 2015! I haven't been in the group in awhile, but I was doing modified SL for 3x5 for awhile then December was "do whatever I wanted" month while I figured out what I liked doing the most. I've been lifting since August 2013 so I've decided to switch to a Push/pull/legs split this month. I was…
  • Mine has been doing this too. I just went and relinked them and while it seems to have fixed it for now, it wasn't retroactive. MFP was getting info from BM but not the other way around.
  • If you like crock pot recipes, I made this tonight: http://www.sixsistersstuff.com/2012/02/slow-cooker-creamy-ranch-pork-chops-and.html I liked it because she gave a recipe for both the seasoning and the cream of chicken soup. So I made those myself to save on sodium. The cream of chicken homemade had 270 and the pork with…
  • So you are planning to do all those lifts on your strength days? I'd cut back to 1 or 2 major lifts each lifting day with you being so active otherwise. As for the shcedule: For me, I've switched gears lately to focus on running 3-4x a week and cut lifting down to 2x a week. I do the A day of SL Tuesday and B on Thursday.…
  • @mimi my gym is majority dudes too. that happens when you lift where professional power lifters lift...but the gym is also old school. There aren't many collars to begin with so I almost never have them on the barbell. I only like them on deadlifts now just to hold everything still. But I also only increase weights every…
  • hey guys! I've been quiet in here lately because I've been so busy (haven't even seen the derp in the forums lately!) but I'm still lifting. A couple weeks ago I started up C25K to slowly work back up to my running strength I had in the spring (did a 10k) but I had injured myself. Now the hip flexor is feeling much better,…
  • I've been doing this program for about a year (although anyone lifting for awhile will be similar), but you really have to decide on your goals at some point or another. I LOVE lifting. I've gained so much strength. BUT I realized that I can't go hard at the weights and still try and lose weight. So I changed the program…
  • I got some local bison last week and made goat cheese stuffed bison meatballs. I had no idea how much protein it had! Not sure I'm willing to pay $12/lb on a regular basis but it provided a nice change up compared to chicken or beef. I'm a self-proclaimed picky eater that loves meat. haha! So chicken, fish, pork, beef,…
  • you and me both @jcdoerr. I've only been lifting 1 or 2x a week lately. So I did A tonight and upped my squats and bench and rows for the first time in probably a month :blushing: I've been taking it slow to try and control the raging lifting hungry that I get. So I've been doing SL for just about a year now (next week I…
  • good luck stef with everything. I've heard great things about the wrist fitbit from my friend but know many others love them. There was a thing on the news the other day about "are calorie trackers making us fat" where a woman blamed her fitbit for gaining weight because she ate exactly what the thing told her she should.…
  • Hey ladies, been away since the bf got his acl surgery last week and was visiting him since he is pretty home bound for now... Got in B today, but subbed hip thrusts for deads because I told this guy he could use the DL platform when I only had one OHP set left and then there was no more room. Was going to do thrusts…
  • I'm in central NC and Arthur hit the coast pretty good but we didn't have much rain here. Glad yall are okay! A after work today Squats: finally gave in and went up to 125lbs. The problem with trying to take my time increasing weights is that I never want to anymore since I'm not eating as much (or trying not to-still…
  • Welcome to all the newbies! @doopwop, I'd suggest resting longer between your OHP sets if you got 54555. And I'm talking about a good couple minutes as opposed to 30 seconds to 1 minute. You are doing great!
  • @jcdoerr I did, lots of food and wine, but I got back to reality today. B today while in the rack next to a guy who appeared to be a powerlifter considering he was squatting 365lbs, benched 315lbs, and used wraps on his knees, wrists, and elbows along with a strap 0.o Squats: 120lbs 3x5. OHP: kept its at 45lbs 3x5 DL:…
  • so much happy lifting up in here. nice krokador! Unfortunately didn't kick my butt in gear and only lifted once last weekend, but I did go for a nice long walk today and went canoeing for about 40 minutes on a small lake. I even have the sunburn to show for it!! Back to it tomorrow afternoon, especially after the wine…
  • So trying to get back to running and did a mile before work yesterday (heat/humidity = bad + long commute) and of course the ole hip flexor injury flared up. I've been reading that sitting all day (which I do, yay desk job) doesn't help and that strengthening your glutes will help because they are connected. What's…
  • Oh gosh, no time to catch up now, but y'all are awesome as always. Skipped A yesterday and then because I'm taking a pill break (I normally take them straight through with no monthly "period" but take a break every now and then because I (TMI)) start spotting because of the build up) I didn't feel like doing anything today…
  • +3 for fractionals and own set of 2.5lbs. Just make sure they can fit an olympic bar, since you are using the 45lb bar. I know places like ****'s don't sell olympic plates -_- ETA: dumb mfp, I wrote D!ck's, as in the sporting goods store.
  • @lwoodroff glad you got back! I'm sure it was driving you crazy not to lift. @kita sorry to hear that! Wasn't in the mood, probably because I forgot my headphones tonight. blergh wednesday. Squats: 115lbs 3x5 Rows: 70.5lbs 3x5 Bench: 70.5lbs 3x5 Then no assisted chip ups or cardio because of the blergh-ness+lack of…
  • protein and fat too with less carbs. You may also play around with when you eat with your workout to try and control your hungry. You have to play around to see how it works for you, I know if I don't eat before working out at 6am (a banana or beef jerky) then I'm absolutely starving afterwards. But 1700 sounds about right…
  • @liz big girl weights on bench are awesome! @willrun4bagels I noticed an improvement in my running once I started lifting as well. They complement each other. B today Squats: 115lbs 3x5. I think I was supposed to go up to 120lbs since I've been here for awhile. I've been upping reallyyyy slowly to try and mitigate the…
  • welcome! hope it goes/went well. Take measurements and picture for sure.
  • Yeah now that I think about it he was doing sumo squats. It was insane to (act like I wasn't) watch though.
  • Yesterday's workout: Squats 115lbs 3x5 Rows 71lbs 3x5 Bench 71lbs 3x5 Crosstrainer for 15 minutes There was a dude there who may be one of the powerlifters because his thighs were huge and straight muscle but he was doing squats with SEVEN 45s on each side. He was taking a wide stance and going down to just barely touching…
  • welcome! Love all these new faces.
  • No, you are right for being frustrated. If you want to do SL then hell, do SL! Make sure you watch all the videos you can like from the "so you think you can ___" series on youtube or others. Ask this group pointers. Take videos of yourself doing the lifts at the gym and this group can make suggestions for your form. If…
  • @krok and checker: hope yall feel better! Lifting is awesome, until you hurt yourself and have to cut back. I've only been 3 days to my new gym but I've decided dudes there don't do leg day. Or I just haven't gone on the right day yet? Either way today was the first time to see someone else full on squatting (the squat…
  • cool guys! My mom did barrel racing as a kid and I took lessons as a kid. My parents have a place in the mountains and there is a place we can ride pretty cheap. Nice and pretty views riding through christmas tree farms :)
  • To make them last longer while you decide what to do, rinse them in 1 part white vinegar to 10 parts water (I usually do about 1/4 to 1/3 cup vinegar then fill the measuring cup all the way up to the top past the 2 cup mark). I let them soak for a minute or so then rinse them really good. Helps them last longer! ETA: this…
