  • I'm at 37 on that list. I am a huge fan of stouts and barleywines, so that list looked absolutely ridiculous to me in terms of "best." Also, I'm sure distribution has a large influence on an article in Seattle. A lot of good beers don't make it out west... (and a lot of good beer doesn't make it to here in the Midwest..)…
  • Founder's all-day IPA is a nice sessionable ale that seems to be more hop-forward than a traditional pale. It also is less calories!
  • Hey all, I'm in the Chicago suburbs. We get a lot of beer from everywhere, which is terrific. However, we fight in the streets and chase distributor trucks for the special ones (looking at you, King Henry). Okay, only some of us do that. With Oskar Blues and Deschutes recently introduced to our market, we are in heaven. Of…
  • I'll see your IPA's and raise you barrel-aged stouts. Goose Island Bourbon County Stout clocks in around 450 cals per 12 delicious ounces.
  • In 2012 I went to the Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison and it was magical. So many great breweries present! Thankfully our hotel was within walking distance. I'll be applying for tickets again in May However, the best festival I've been to was in November of last year-- FOBAB. (That's Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged…
  • Not sure what you consider "low" but for IPAs, Founders All-Day IPA clocks in at 144. It's a session IPA, which means about 5% ABV, but it's full of flavor. Great on a summer day. (or any day that ends in "y".) Cheers!
  • For me, I'm still new to this and never really know how much to just support or how much to give tips. I don't like giving unsolicited advice, so encouragement is where I usually land! ~TK~
  • Feel free to add me- my diary is open to friends. On a side note, I am open to dairy as well. Cheese, yogurt, sour cream, milk, I love them all. I'm also not afraid of goat's milk or sheep's milk (as long as it's in cheese form.) Except for human. I don't touch the stuff. ~TK~
  • I have a big 64 oz. mug that I drink ever so slowly throughout the day with my fourth graders. I try to finish one by lunch and unload and refill, but that doesn't always work. I'm pretty content if I'm done with 8 cups by the end of the school day, and then I try to kick it up in the evening. Going slower (just a few sips…
  • I'm pretty sure buffalo wings are the end/all be all. Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wing, Rings and Wings; it doesn't matter, because they are all something close to 100 cal/ wing. I used to be able to put down 16-20 wings, plus dipping sauce, plus fries, plus BEvERages. 3000 cals, no problemo. Don't even get me started on Reese's…
  • Just found this thread and digging it. I 6'1" and started at 306 a little over two months ago. My nutritionist recommended this site and I've been successful with it since then. I'm 25+ pounds down and looking to get down to around 200. I'm working on getting back into 5K shape (on week seven of C25K) and focusing on…
  • I've been in and out of love with running for years. I always come back to it because I feel a big sense of accomplishment when I run a 5K. I feel an even bigger sense when I beat people 100 lbs. lighter than me. (Just imagine a hairless buffalo charging at you with a runner's bib on. Yeah, that's me...) Running, though…
  • If I'm staying in Illinois, Haymarket and Pipeworks are both making some beers that are better than some of their counterparts in the city. Of course, I can drink about 90% of Goose Island as well and be a happy camper! ~TK`
  • I'm in. Maybe I'll make my students do some with me! "Now kids, let's spell 'stubbornly' while doing jumping jacks. 30 sets. What? Use it in a sentence? These manboobs are stubbornly refusing to go away, despite my best intentions. Set one, go! S-T-U-B-B-O-R-N-L-Y! Set two, go!..."
  • Smashed Oreos are delicious. You're better off throwing them away or finding a way to work them into your plan. ~TK~
  • Howdy, In case you weren't aware, there's a group here on MFP that is catered to the 100+ to lose group. Check us out under groups! Of course, you can post anywhere you want, but there's a ton of support (see what I did there?) to help guide you on this lifelong journey. Best of luck! ~TK~
  • I find a variety of music helps me work out-- it doesn't have to be crazy fast or loud even. No matter what I'm doing, "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons always gets me moving better and feeling better. I try to find music that makes me happy. Guster, Spoon, Ben Folds Five, Dave Matthews Band, Fitz and the Tantrums, Big and…
  • Ah, the problem of and all the solutions of life's problems... beer. My love affair with craft beer is probably directly related to why I'm here and trying to change my lifestyle... Favorite Year-Rounds: New Glarus Spotted Cow Two Brothers Domaine Dupage Three Floyds Gumball Head Avery White Rascal Special/Seasonal beers:…
  • Hey Becky-- I've been on here for about 3 weeks and I'm already starting to feel great. I'll echo everyone's sentiments and say log EVERYTHING. Knowing that you'll be logging it makes you plan ahead and really helps (me anyway) decide if I really want to eat it. Just to add another note, there is a whole forum here for…
