  • 99% of it is water weight, don't worry about it. :) To gain one pound of fat you need to eat 3500 kcals over your TDEE.
  • No. (I don't think there was a single day I didn't go over on sugar since I started MFP. :)
  • I do this too, now and then. :) You can definitely work out a sweat, even if you are just jogging in place. It's good for you! How many calories do you usually burn?
  • Tried the blended frozen bananas on their own with a little cinnamon, they were delicious. Tried it with Nutella, maybe I added too much Nutella, couldn't eat it - way too sweet. Tried it with strawberries (1/3 cup pieces per 1.5 bananas) and heavy cream (2 tbsp per 1.5 bananas), and it was awesome. :) Healthy (not a lot…
  • Whoever told you this got it very wrong. One of my large bananas is ~120 kcals, my full-fat sweetened-with-real-sugar Greek yoghurt is 189 kcals. That adds up to 309. 309 is not "almost 500".
  • This. You say you live with omnivores, is it right to assume they are more than the vegan/vegetarian members of the house?
  • I always loved greek yoghurt, from the very first moment I tried it! I get the full-fat sweetened version though. ;) If I'm going to have something delicious as a treat, I'm going to have all 189 kcals of it.
  • Your BMI is 21.6, at 124 pounds your BMI would be 20. Are you sure you want to aim for a lower BMI, or you just want a body that looks more 'fit'? I ask because a more 'toned' look (with more muscle mass!) is usually what's desired, and a BMI of 21.6 seems about right for it. Your BMR is around 1450. Eating below this is…
  • Your body doesn't go into starvation mode unless you're on a very low calorie diet (VLCD: 500-600 NET or lower) for a long time (few months). This is a myth. Your metabolism may slow down though, and cause your BMR/TDEE to lower, meaning if you eat your old TDEE you'll gain weight until it adapts again. DON'T eat 1,200…
  • Can't help you on the DVDs, but take the stairs, all the time! Go up and down a couple extra times each day, just because. Wearing only socks and jumping/jogging in place over a thick rug might do the trick though.
  • "A calorie is not a calorie" is getting really old. A calorie is a calorie, like it's been mentioned, it's a unit of energy. Yes, the quality of what you eat matters, sure, some things are more easily digested than others, but whether you eat 1000 calories of sugar or 1000 calories of big macs, or 1000 calories of carrots,…
  • babydiego87: You don't have to hit your macros perfectly. If you go over on carbs one day, just go under the next day. You're not going to have any ill effects from one day because you ate a lot of carbs vs. protein, or a lot of fat vs. the others. Think of your macro goals as more guidelines, you don't have to hit them…
  • Two weeks isn't a plateau. ;) I weight every day and my body has steadily lost but with drops only once a month or so. This is normal, don't worry. Push through it, don't give up! If you're eating enough for a healthy weight loss (if you're not moody and hungry all the time you should be OK) just keep doing it. It will…
  • My BMR is 1500, my TDEE is 1800. I sit at home most of the day, my outside trips are usually brief 10-30 minute walks. I lost most weight with 1,200 calories as my goal, but regularly went over (weekends, Christmas, 'cheat' days, new year's, birthdays, dinners with friends, etc). I never had a stall, and lost weight…
  • Full fat sweetened Greek yoghurt. I accept no substitutes. A single serving is 180 kcals. Get the un-sweetened version if you're not a sugar junkie like me for less sugar and kcals. Mashed fruit baby food. I don't know what these are called, but they're basically small containers with mashed up fruit (usually apple and…
  • Don't give a pregnant woman skydiving vouchers! I second all the massage / pedicure suggestions. The suggestion to have someone come clean her house and cook for her is a good one, but I'm assuming you want something before birth. If that's not the case and the gift can wait till then (or even if you want it for after she…
  • I'm not sure how cheap these would be for you, but you can find whole bags for $3-$4 here, and they last forever. You only need a little each time, especially if you're cooking for one. It's "textured vegetable protein" / "textured soy protein". It's 50% protein, and it tastes... well, it tastes like nothing, really. I…
  • Assuming you're wearing the same clothes and haven't eaten/drunk anything in that hour, my guess would be the scale. ;) Scales aren't 100% accurate (the cheaper digital ones especially), and they need to be in a completely flat area to work at their best. Even in a completely flat area there may be slight variations in…
  • My boyfriend is steadily losing weight while skipping breakfast (he's never hungry when he wakes up, and if he eats he says it just makes him really hungry during the entire morning, so he just has coffee). When our diet consisted of mac&cheese, spaghetti carbonara, and other extremely fattening things, he was steadily…
  • My brother borrowed my car for a few weeks, and he was very good about not smoking in the car, but unfortunately smokers just smoke before getting in the car and the smell is still in there. :( As someone who really really dislikes smoke, it bothered me. But I've known my brother forever, and trust him completely, I…
  • If you burned more calories than you ate, yes, you should eat more.
  • Gallowmere198 means world record holders, not just random athletes who do well. The reasoning being that if a vegan/vegetarian diet is obviously superior, then vegan/vegetarian athletes would at least hold a couple world records on something.
  • Just to add to my previous post, I have the utmost respect for you if you're not trying to guilt or misinform people into a vegan/vegetarian diet and if you are following this diet for medical or ethical reasons. It's the misinformation that I'm really against.
  • There was another thread a couple of hours ago where someone posted about the different "homo" species, linking brain size to the amount of meat and other animal products they consume. It's by neandermagnon, at the end of page two, you can find it here:…
  • White refined sugar is 15 kcal per *teaspoon*! Not per tablespoon: tablespoon is 45 kcal.
  • I second the lactose bit. Cut all dairy. You should feel improvements in a day or two (not a few weeks as mentioned before - the gas pain comes from not digesting lactose properly and as soon as everything's out of your intestines you won't have those pains or gas). If it goes away, awesome, have milk for breakfast one day…
  • Like I already said, you're looking much better! :)
  • I was going to suggest this, but I see it suggested here. :) This really works for me! If using a smaller plate isn't possible, fill your plate with as much salad as possible (even if it's just lettuce, which is pretty much just water and so low in calories it barely counts). You'll still have a full plate, but with normal…
  • I can see a difference, congrats! :) How do you feel?
