Whoever told you this got it very wrong. One of my large bananas is ~120 kcals, my full-fat sweetened-with-real-sugar Greek yoghurt is 189 kcals. That adds up to 309. 309 is not "almost 500".

I always loved greek yoghurt, from the very first moment I tried it! I get the full-fat sweetened version though. ;) If I'm going to have something delicious as a treat, I'm going to have all 189 kcals of it.

Your body doesn't go into starvation mode unless you're on a very low calorie diet (VLCD: 500-600 NET or lower) for a long time (few months). This is a myth. Gallowmere198 means world record holders, not just random athletes who do well. The reasoning being that if a vegan/vegetarian diet is obviously superior, then vegan/vegetarian athletes would at least hold a couple world records on something.
