  • I made this over the weekend - DELICIOUS! I added a can of tuna, though, to make it more of a main dish. Next time I'll probably add 2, as 1/4 a can of tuna per serving (1 can for the whole recipe - 4 servings) isn't much.
  • ^This. And if you have people in your life that are telling you 2 cookies every 8 days (or something similar) will cause you to never reach a healthy weight, then you need a better (healthier) support system.
  • Ooooh.... I'm so totally going to have to try this!
  • I'm hovering just over 200 right now (started a long time ago at 227) - would love to solidly get down to a healthier weight. (I'm only 5' 3.5", so I'm still a good 60 lbs from where I want to be). Could I join?
  • This. Like many people in other professions, doctors have a lot to deal with - they may have trouble juggling everything in their lives - and like many of us, some probably sacrifice their own well being first. Grabbing food on the go, cutting out workouts, etc. Just because a doctor hasn't done the best job balancing his…
  • Some of these I totally get why the concern, but others, not so much. Nature's Own Honey Wheat Bread only has 2g sugar/serving, according to their website. That's pretty low in the world of bread. On the skim milk - 1 cup of whole milk also has 12g of sugar. Milk naturally has lactose (a sugar) in it. Unless your milk has…
  • Relax - Here's an article explaining why that study's claims are misleading (if not downright untrue). Basically, their premise that if it doesn't contain pollen, then it isn't honey - is false. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2011/11/25/142659547/relax-folks-it-really-is-honey-after-all This is a key excerpt:
  • Great accomplishment! I've been on a long-term project at work (we're approaching 2.5 years - hopefully should be done and back to a normal job by next Feb/March), and I definitely know that it's NOT easy to make good choices under stress. It's fantastic that you're recognizing what you did right, and also areas for…
  • You can also make black bean brownies without a mix. It's still easy, and this way you know exactly what is in them! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/accountant_boi/view/black-bean-brownies-103623
  • http://www.healthyindulgences.net/2009/05/healthy-chocolate-cake-with-secret.html You can make an amazingly delicious, rich, flourless chocolate cake using black beans. No joke! I'd pick it over "normal" cake any day.
  • Ditto. People have been eating bugs and miscellaneous animal parts since we've existed as a species.
  • While I love my cucumbers, I'm HIGHLY suspicious of most of the facts stated here. I looked up the nutrition info, and while it is a good source of vitamin K, it isn't a good source of most of the other vitamins listed (it only has 2% of our daily vitamin B1 in a cup of cucumber, for example).…
  • Many, many people struggle with eating as an emotional response. I wish it were as easy as just "starting fresh" tomorrow - but until you address the root of your problem (an unhealthy relationship with food), and change your automatic response to situations that would normally trigger overeating, then the chances of this…
  • Traditional Staples: Eggs Plain, Traditional Oatmeal Greek Yogurt (plain) Black Beans (no-salt-added) Cucumber Non-Traditional Staples: Nutritional Yeast (not the same as yeast for bread making!) Vital Wheat Gluten Coconut Oil Lemons/Limes (for quick, delicious flavoring) baby carrots
  • Another brand to look for is Ancient Harvest Quinoa, which comes in a box (I think they sell both traditional and red quinoa) - this is what I've always used, and as I mentioned - never had any problems with noticeable debris in the quinoa.
  • Hmm. I've never had this type of problem and I eat quinoa fairly regularly. Maybe certain brands are better than others? Just a thought...
  • Hahaha - me too! Can you tell I'm an accountant? I don't know what else SEC would stand for.
  • Welcome back! The one thing I thought when reading your post is that you should consider doing something that will allow you to forgive yourself and let go of the disappointment/frustration you're holding on to from past weigh loss attempts. It's important to have a positive focus and to realize that ups & downs are part…
  • I agree with the advice to see your doctor, but to emphasize something else that one of the other posters said, because MANY people make this mistake: if you're new to running, your running intervals with C25K should be quite slow to begin with - when I first started, I felt like I was barely going faster than a walk. The…
  • A few things: 1) Don't worry about going over on protein - MFP's "limit" should be looked at as more of a minimum goal 2) Unless it's causing digestive discomfort, don't worry about going over your fiber. Again, MFP's goal can be a bit low. I easily eat upwards of 35-40g of fiber on days where I'm rocking the veggies, and…
  • I made these last night, without the cranberries (didn't have any handy) and I halved the recipe. Instead of spreading onto a pan. I spooned the mix into cupcake molds so that it would be pre-portioned. They came out to be ~200 cals for 1/12 of my mix (which is 1/24 of the mix listed above). Here are some pics - you could…
  • Yes - I do well with routine. When I get off track, one of the first things I usually end up doing is stop logging/logging-in to MFP daily because I know I'm not doing well. By signing in to MFP every day, it keeps me aware and much more likely to stay on top of things and catch problems before I slide off track completely.
  • Here's a receipe that doesn't use any flour - they're DELICIOUS! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/accountant_boi/view/black-bean-brownies-103623
  • I'm not a morning person, and I have a 45 min. commute to get to work, so I always run in the evenings. That said, I live somewhere where it typically cools down by 7-8 PM and I enjoy running in the evening because it serves as a way for me to "wind-down" after a long day. It's me-time, that i'm typically in need of by the…
  • Avoiding them is probably the worst option to pick. Honestly - there are SO MANY vegetables and SO MANY preparation options. Preparation can make all the difference. It will take some time and effort, but no diet is truly healthly/complete without vegetables. If you have to just find a few that you can tolerate and eat…
  • You don't like salads? Don't eat them. There are SO many other ways to eat vegetables. My mom HATES cooked califlower, but loves cauliflower-crust pizza and mashed potatoes that are half mashed cauliflower. Roasted veggies, veggies sauteed in herbs and a small amount of oil, grilled veggies, veggies ground up and added to…
  • You might consider finding other ways to help you sleep. For example, it's better to not watch tv or spend time on the computer for awhile before bed. Some people find a warm tea before bed is helpful. You'll find a wealth of info online if you look at reputable sources. Here's one, for example:…
  • To train for a marathon, you'll want to work in improving your cardiorespiratory fitness. You could do that with any of the settings on the machines, as long as you are pushing yourself. Here's a good article about the topic: http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/articles/cardiorespiratory-fitness.aspx
