I'd just like to add that I find your story inspirational. How could one not be inspired by this success story and this gracious lady?

What? There are judgemental people on MFP? Say it ain't so!
-
There's a lot of anecdotal evidence and strong opinion on MFP, but my experience is that the only way to lose weight is to pay attention to CICO. That is the one universal principle.

I sing in a choir and we had a concert in January. I had my wife take some videos with my phone, and when I saw them I was aghast at how I looked the the love child of the Michelin Man and the Pillsbury dough boy. Enough is enough. Down 20 lbs since then and short term goal is 10 more by or next concert on 29May. Then, on…

Mine used to be in the mid 60s before I got serious about cardio exercise. Now it's between 46 and 56 and I attribute that to better cardiovascular health from cycling, elliptical etc.

I cycle quite a bit and use my garmin 405cx to track distance etc. If I am wearing the heart rate monitor the calorie burn it estimates is about a third of what it estimates when I am not wearing it. With the hrm it can tell how hard I am working because all 60 minute rides are not the same because of wind, hills, speed…

I am not a big fan of lifting either. Did you get this advice from someone with credentials, or from reading the boards on MFP? If the latter, I'd suggest seeking out the former.

This I totally agree with. I would strongly advise that you find someone that can give you good counsel, plus help you to (re)-discover your inherent beauty and worth. While I am not a counsellor, I think that girls are drawn to abusive guys because deep inside they don't think they deserve the love and honour of a good…

I had something similar to that happen when some guy emailed a flame to me and amongst the swearing referred to me as "a big fat .... " So I was / am inspired to lose the weight and then will have the artillery to confront him with "Hey look I'm not a big fat anything anymore but you are still a .... "

I got a Garmin 405cx from Kijiji last October and could not be happier. The plan was to use it to train for a marathon but a bum knee scuttled that plan for now. I have been using it with the heart rate monitor (included) to track my cycling this summer and have logged virtually every ride - over 2300km so far. I believe…

1) I determined to change the way I eat 2) I wrapped my brain around how much work it is to nullify the calories of a Mars bar, let alone a container of Haagen Dasz. 3) I found an exercise that I enjoy that I could make an (almost) everyday occurrence. That's cycling to & from work which is about 90 minutes (40km) a day. I…

I believe that people who can eat sweets in moderation just don't get why some of us find that impossible. If there are sweets in the house I will binge. I need them out of the house. I believe that a complete abstinence for a month or so will slow the cravings. I still have the odd binge but my memory of feeling like crap…

My only plan for when I hit the goal weight is to post before & after pics on the Success Stories forum. I find it to be quite inspiration and would like to give back a little. And then I'm gonna live the life that being morbidly obese has denied me.

There's dirty old men and playahs on this site? :ohwell: Oh say it ain't so.

When I was younger (age 37 or so) and didn't know about walk/run regimens, I weighed in at 289 and figured I'd better start running. So I invented a program whereby I went 1/2K for Mon-Thu and then Friday ran 1K and took Sat/Sun off. The next week I ran 1K Mon-Thu and 2K on Fri. Sat / Sun off. Next week 2K Mon-Thu and 3K…

I discovered to my utter horror last week that weighing my food is a serious reality check. I was having a couple chicken thighs, no skin, no bone, and the MFP estimate was 200 calories less than what it turned out to be when I weighed it. So what I'm doing now is getting the calorie count for weight (eg for 100 grams) and…

I followed the youtube link that someone suggested regarding weighing your food - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVjWPclrWVY I found that when I weighed my supper food tonight (first time ever) it was actually 300 calories more than the MFP estimate I had chosen (3 chicken thighs and a potato). Imagine doing that 6 days a…

Hmmm. Looks as if I spoke out of turn with my Dwight Schrute assertions. Withdrawn.

Fact: guys don't have female friends unless they're attracted to them. IMHO, as others have said, this is a dangerous situation and you totally need to be honest with yourself and let go.

I've been diagnosed with osteo arthritis in my right knee which looks as if it's going to prevent me from running for a while. I can cycle, though, and a round trip to my day job is a bit over 40km which I hope to do several times a week. That's my exercise for now.

Hahahahaha Good story! You stuck to the program and you *do* look great. I admire your strength to not wither because of bullying, but to realize that regardless of what some dumbass says, you are worthy and beautiful and it really doesn't matter what he thinks or says to make the other dumbasses like him.

I've been on one cruise and the food was fabulous and abundant. If I were to go on another cruise, and I hope to one day, I will workout hard before, workout hard after, and enjoy the fabulous, abundant food with no guilt. Doesn't hurt to stay active doing whatever's available on the ship. My wife and I went dancing every…

Four things for me: 1) I bought a night splint for around $80 to keep foot flexed at night. 2) I got some Birkenstocks to wear whenever I would otherwise go barefoot around the house 3) I got custom orthotics, for which my health plan "footed" much of the cost. 4) Stopped running. From what I understand, overpronation,…

Me too - I just broke my 200+ days of continuous logon and am going to start all over. Haven't stepped on the scale yet, but I think I gained nearly all of it back. Strategy #1 - no food after supper, and strategy #2 - figger out how to balance my macros.
