  • Sleep Apnea... as ive got heavier snoring has increased and now if I get tonsillitis or any other kind of inflammation in my throat I cannot sleep without my airways becoming blocked. That was the final straw and have lost 25kg(and counting) since then.
  • CICO will make you loose weight - NOT NECESSARILY FAT - and in extreme cases you can loose more muscle than fat... eating a higher protein diet and strength training will reduce the amount of muscle you loose when in a calorie deficit. and eating low carb will encourage fat burning due to lower and less volatile insulin…
  • tinkerbell... your opinions are yours and mine are mine - you throw your opinion around as if it were fact and its not the case - its just your opinion. The human race is suffering from unprecedented obesity crisis with huge numbers of people in a diabetic or pre-diabetic state (nearly half of americans are diabetic or…
  • You don't need exercise to create a calorie deficit to lose weight but it does mean you can eat a bit more food in a day. (although beware of this as it will also make you feel more hungry) Also - strength training such as weight lifting or calisthenics will increase your BMR and make you burn more calories (not a huge…
  • Impact diet whey has additives to help weight loss such as green tea extract and glutamine etc... agree with Rob above that it does mix pretty lumpy... doesnt bother me though.
  • Amazon on the link above £18.99 free delivery - £1.58 per bar - still expensive but cheaper than £2.50 each in shops
  • The isolate is exactly as the name suggests the whey protein "isolated" so less other additives to bulk it out. Useful if your trying to get only the calories from the protein and very little else. The standard whey has more other ingredients and higher fat and carbs etc.
  • For protein powder "My Protein" "Impact Diet Whey" is awesome for weight loss as contains some extra ingredients to kick start your day - I have one for breakfast every weekday and after every workout. https://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-diet-whey/10530657.html For bars I don't think you can beat "Grenade"…
  • Each to their own. Im 25KG (55lbs) down by eating plenty of food, never feeling hungry and simply cutting out the sugar and simple carbs. its simple.... cut out the sugar and simple carbs and you will after a couple of weeks break your sugar/carb addiction and strop craving sugary foods... eat lean meats and tons of…
  • step one... swap all your drinks for water (dont drink your calories). step two... cut out sugar and all things containing sugar from your diet. step three... walk for 60 minutes every day. Once you start seeing changes and realise you can do this - you may well start to WANT to maximise your progress, so getting exercise…
  • garmin.... they are by far the best tech out there. I bought my girlfreind and daughter the Vivosmart HR+ this christmas and it has all day heart rate and step tracking as well as GPS activity tracking and also sleep tracking. It was down as low as £119 in the january sales but has gone back up a bit since then.…
  • I find eating low carb (or slow carb) helps me stay satisfied longer and i find it easier to stick to my calorie goals. When you eat a lot of simple carbs like sugar and white bread and potatoes it sends your blood sugar and insulin levels on a roller coaster ride... I find it just a whole lot easier to keep the simple…
  • I use this for breakfast every weekday https://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-diet-whey/10530657.html I make it with either water or an almond and coconut milk
  • You have to change your mindset - stop thinking of food as a reward and you will stop wanting to eat the junk (your weightloss should be your reward)... I find going low carb takes away the cravings for sugary and high carb snacks but you do have to break through that carb addiction before the cravings go away. (which…
  • Here are some simple changes that to me have made the biggest difference to my life and have caused the best and most sustainable weight loss. 1. Dont drink your calories. (swap all your drinks for water). 2. Walk every day (try to fit in an hour but at least for 30 minutes). 3. Stop eating sugar (throw all your groceries…

  • So why does this website promote the 8 glasses thing then if nobody actually thinks its got any science behind it...
  • I weigh myself every morning after the toilet and before I eat. But I only record my weight Monday mornings. The scale does fluctuate by up to a kg during the week but ive always lost a good sum by the end of the week :) I also recalculate my goals every Monday after Ive entered my new weight - I don't see the point of…

  • 1st that's the whole point... My hrm has the ability to program in the heart rate training program - then I don't have to keep track it tells me when to go faster. And when to recover. 2nd having a program does 2 things for me. First, it keeps me honest about the work out I'm doing. Eg. I can push through an extra 30…
  • Found this... Looks like a fairly good place to start. http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/mobileart.asp?articlekey=90077&page=1
  • Cycled through wadebridge today. Padstow to bodmin and back on the good old camel trail. Don't think there's enough Cornish forum users to get it buzzin...
  • Also the heart rate zones in the Garmin are ones I've set based on my resting heart rate a maximum heart rate. My estimated max heart rate is 180 and I've achieved a 178 on my bike really going for it so I think 180 is about right.
  • My plan wasn't what I was actually going to do it was a suggestion of what I'm trying to write down. I'm happy to do just 2 mins at each zone as I warm up or whatever is regarded as the norm. I have the technology to program my Garmin with a heart rate based work out so I don't see the point of trying to rap or talk to see…
  • For cycling there is no finer bit of kit than a Garmin Edge 500 and reasonably priced too.
  • I had the same idea when i went looking - i didnt want to bother with a chest strap. but from reading around i came to the conclusion all the ones without a chest strap wernt worth having. I mostly cycle so ive gone for a Garmin Edge 500 which cost around £200 I think the cheapest GPS HRM watch they do is the forerunner…
