  • I work graveyards as well, and I just count one "awake" period as one day, even though it usually spans two days. I think it doesn't matter what day you log on, as long as it's tracked so you can follow what your progress is.
  • Do you have the ability to speak with a nutritionist? It's usually a really eye-opening experience for people and not too expensive for a couple of appointments where you can make a plan.
  • Me, too! I was fifteen pounds away from my goal last summer, then I started nursing school and just stopped caring. I'm not back where I started, but thank goodness because I've lost over a hundred pounds. I've gained back thirty-five and I feel terrible about it. I want to get back on track for sure, but it's been so hard…
  • In my experience coconut butter is always super hard. You can melt it to soften it up, but it's not naturally soft like other nut butters. It will probably also have a film of coconut oil settled on the top. Once you get under that, chip away at the butter - it's heaven!
  • A lot of the Clif Builder Bars are vegan and they are 20-30 grams of protein and around 300 calories.
  • One of my favorite things is to pan fry tofu (either dry or with a little cooking spray) and throw some good hot sauce on it! I don't usually press mine, I just use the extra firm and cut it into really small triangles, a little less than half an inch thick and probably an inch on each side. If you dry fry over low heat,…
  • B12 is the only thing I know of that is missing from our soil from over-farming, and is now only available from either meat or supplements (I take a sublingual vegan B12). I haven't heard of any other essential nutrient that you can't get through a balanced plant-based diet.
  • I'm basically vegan at this point and I've done tons of research. I have no real idea what my macros are because I can only pay attention to a few things at once, and right now it's how many calories and no animal products. If you want to friend me you can look at my diary and see all of the bizarre combinations of things…
  • The change that got me past my latest plateau is cutting out dairy. I don't keep ice cream in the house (soy or coconut or otherwise) because I know it's killer for me. If somebody gives me a treat, I quietly pass it on to someone else, even if that means taking it in to work the next day. I'll specify to myself in my…
  • Excellent! So many people need to hear this and really start to feel it for themselves!
  • My motivation has changed frequently over years of losing weight. The best motivators (in my opinion) are positive and involve self-appreciation. Or in my case (right now at least), Betsey Johnson dresses. Meditate on your best self and see what image of you comes forward - you now, or you lighter - and then shift your…
  • I'm not a book pusher, per se, but if you're interested in veganism, I recommend Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live. It gives you a different perspective than that of the moral/social that you might find with a lot of vegan materials - it's all about the nutrition aspect of it.
  • I'm 5'9" and after a year-long plateau at 215 I'm down to 209. I just read the book Eat to Live by Dr. Fuhrman (one of the nurses I work with handed it to me because we've discussed similar eating patterns in the past) and I really liked it. I'm trying to employ some of the stuff in there but not all of it right now. I'm…
  • I'm 33 and have lost almost a hundred pounds in the last year - my dad (who has had several heart attacks) has over a hundred pounds that *he* needs to lose, but guess who still constantly comments on what I eat when I visit? It's about them and their perception, it's not about you. If you can train your brain to not take…
  • Silk's soy "Holiday Nog" is super delicious. I like milk alternatives, but don't generally prefer the taste of soy milk, and I still love the Silk Nog. I think it's 90 calories for 1/2 a cup - the lowest I've seen.
  • Exercise doesn't just create a calorie deficit - it tones and conditions your heart, muscles, circulatory system, respiratory system - there are so many benefits for your body beyond just the "extra calories" you could eat if you wanted to. I would say to make sure you're not eating under your BMI, which is probably around…
  • I also count everything eaten during a graveyard shift after midnight as "yesterday", then I start the next day when I wake up after getting off work.
  • You are the bomb! Keep on kicking your own butt - you deserve to be proud of yourself!
